Just remember, that O2 sensor takes up volume in header pipe and will affect things and you might get a funny return pulse to port.

Ive just pulled out my old photo album ,, when I had my old Kawasaki AR80 with standard gearing I would do 65mph ( ill let you google gearing and where red line would take it ) I went and got it Stan Stevens tune done on head and port that was it and it would do 76 MPH on standard gearing I seem to remember it was just under 11,000 RPM , with out a doubt with correct gearing it would of done 84 MPH as it was pulling well at 76 MPH into red , so just food for thought guessing with Clock error I might of been 8 to 9 % out so I was genuinely doing 70 + MPH on standard gearing . SO with better tune Exhaust etc etc .. Im sure you will get there . I had a Yamaha RD125LC partly derestricted got 98 MPH out of that so probably 88MPH real speed with id say 19 BHP

I was just wondering. Does the curving of the pipe effect the performance much compared if it would be straight as in the drawings and simulators and would it be difficult at all to rotate the cylinder and the piston 180 degrees? You could have the pipe go straight to the back under the saddle and that would let you do some kind of ram air intake if you have the carb in the front 🤔

havent done this in ages... i always just fudged my peak rpm around a bit until i ended up with length/diameters with nice even intergers... like 25mm over 125mm lets you make 5 rings at 25 long with a 5mm increase... rather than 25.2, etc... i felt 200 rpm or so here or there, or a bit of compromise on the band was worth the hassle of non-laser cut accuracy... all those little half and quarter mm adds up! lay em out with a piece of filler rod marked at appropriate intervals, bent in place. can guesstimate bends to a certain extent. throw the odd cardboard former on for diameters and tweak for clearance where its an issue... learnt early on that theres a limit to how sharp a bend you can take in one go before the turbulence chokes you. this shape was really easy enough to hydroform, but that takes some fiddling with the initial layout to get it popping right... miss my nsr150. almost motivated to start playing with it again. sigh. making a piston and sleeving a cylinder... sigh. if im going to blow parts up id rather know that i can make them again... limited number of pistons available. odd size. no alternatives.

@paradiselost9946 Great info - thank you. I'm interested to hear at what bend radius you found power dropping off? I try to keep my radius quite large and pie cuts less than 15 Deg (total). I'm wanting to hydroform a full pipe at some point. I've hydroformed headers before and had good dimensional accuracy but I've heard it can be difficult to control the belly diameter and allowances have to be made for the extra stretch in the larger diameter areas.
@paradiselost9946
@paradiselost9946 9 ай бұрын
@@AutoBeta2T min bend radius... never really found one! as tight as i could manage and still have something to weld. but yes, no more than 15 degrees included on each cut. try and be lazy, take it in two pies versus 3 or four...and you just wasted a lot of time by "saving" some. the pressure wave doesnt care about the abrupt changes, but the gas flow definitely does. hydroforming, it does get tricky on the merge from trumpet to belly, have two conflicting curves going on... that i usually just avoided by not doing too much on one go, joining three sections still beats joining... yeegods... done 109 before? never again! no problem if it had a mould but we arent that rich, are we? the header/diverger as a separate with excess to trim off and let the flare do its thing, same as the converger. bellys just some sheet in the roller as always.

Hi, I modified a design by Graham Coker in EngMod2T. This pipe was for a AM6 engine but didn't rev high enough. It was just chance that it worked well with this engine. I have since used Graham Cokers' exhaust design program to try some other designs in EngMod2T. I hope to try a few when I get a chance too. Graham Cokers' spreadsheet is really good and I know of a lot of real world tuners that use it to produce good pipe designs.

@@AutoBeta2T Hi again, my RG500 is close to going on the dyno again and I think I really need to fit some EGT probes to each pipe before I do this time. Do the TC thermocouples bend ok as I would need to bend them ~90 degrees as soon as they exit the the compression fitting ? I assume you are using the adjustable compression fittings from TCD - which ones did you go for ? Do they supply the weld on bosses or did you source them from somewhere else ? And finally what are you using to read/log the temperature readings during your dyno runs ? 👍
@AutoBeta2T
@AutoBeta2T 8 ай бұрын
Hi, yes they bend easily. They are 3mm dia ones. I may have the part number somewhere at home. The fittings are at 1/4 NPT (I'll double check) but others could be used I guess as long as it's for the 3mm probe. Boss wise I made my own but I saw some on eBay for about £8. My Dyno has two inputs for egt/cht so I'll just stick them in there and it will overlay it on the run. I need to get a gauge for real world testing. I do have a SPA one but it broke... Stage 6 maybe. Could do with a peak egt memory function.

@dwhxyz 8 ай бұрын
@@AutoBeta2T Thanks you so much for taking the time to reply that's all been really helpful. Packaging/fitting 4 X EGT probes to the RG500 is certainly going to be challenge! The other issue is a decent gauge and data logger. The MGL Avionics Vega TC-4 CHT / EGT (see parts4aircraft for other gauges) is probably the most practical gauge I could fit but is does not data log. The other option is the reveltronics utcomp pro which for its capabilities including data logging looks very good value but I'm not keen on it's 3.2" rectangle screen!

Hi Dave, yes. I saw the idea on Jeff Henise's site here: www.highwaymanbikes.com/race-pipe-tuning-for-the-yamaha-td3-250cc-twin/#more-640 Additionally I want to establish a base line temp for egt 1 and 2 on the Dyno and replicate it in reality on the road. I've a feeling that the pipe will cool more on the road than on the Dyno. I can then make adjustments to the pipe tuned length on the road. Hopefully giving a little better performance.
