In this video, we create a geographic heat map in Excel using a free Add-in.

Fortunately, with the recent versions of Excel and PowerPoint such a Map Chart function is already build in without requiring any additional installation. I integrated such a Map Chart into a dynamic Excel Dashboard just recently and love how quickly everything is set up and how it visually stands out from other charts. Feel free to have a look at it :)

Absolutely. I am aware of the visual tools integrated into Excel now for geospatial analysis. There has been a real game changer on visuals with Power Map and the Power BI tool now.

Computergaga - Hi Alan, a quick question. I am facing some issue with this app. I created the heat map as shown in the video. But later after few hours when I reopen the map it’s showing the message ‘Loading...’ then i have to wait for few minutes to load it. Or close and reopen 2-3 times to start the map. I have verified that my internet connection is working fine.Is there any solution to this case as per your knowledge? Thanks for your support🙏🏻

Thank you for this tutorial. I tried copying my generated map into word format but it does not work like it does in Excel. I am unable to hover around the map to show the country name and data. How ca I deal with this?

Dear Computergaga, thank you for the clear and precise presentation. Can we put a legend for the color? How can readers know that the red-labeled countries have low subscribers?

I'm not sure the app has a legend option. It may have changed since I last used it. You may need to create the legend manually in cells on the spreadsheet.

At the time of recording there were only options for a world map and USA map. There may be a new version by now. There was no legend option. You may need to create that manually.

I know this is an old video but I'm hoping to get some direction here: I am trying to help my city visualize problem areas. I have a spreadsheet with 23,000 entries of call for service from our police dept all for the same city/state but different addresses. I tried importing this to this program (I am on Office 365) but the map comes up blank. Is there a newer program you can recommend to get this done?

The video is very useful but in Mexico (where I live) the app doesn't work very well, I had troubles in the map, it was all gray, so I don't know if it is the availability here or it's just that I couldn't use it correctly

Best to look at Excel's new Map chart functionality. The app in the video is a few years old and I don't know if it has changed at all.

I had trouble because my "Store" icon was grayed out. All you have to do to get that to work, is convert your file to .xlsx format, close it, reopen it, and then it is active again.

I don't think this app provides this functionality yet. If you look into the map chart functionality of Excel 2016 it is pretty cool.

Thank you for watching. This video is a few years old and is using an add-in to Excel. It has probably changed since this video. I wouldn't know how.
