Not gonna lie when you first said the “homework” was to make the wood ourselves I was somewhat skeptical about doing it on my own and not following you. However looking back... THAT WAS SO SMART TO TELL US TO DO IT OURSELVES!!! That is where I learned the most imo - so smart. ❤️

I completed a donut & coffee tutorial yet walked away with no understanding of the basics...I was proud, but I still had no clue where to go from there. I thought I was too good for low polys, but this is exactly where people should start in my opinion. The "homework" triggered me, but I got over it and made the wood models in about 20-30 mins. I'm definitely sticking with low polys till the basics stick! Plus..there's something .. special about low poly scenes.

2:44 - I struggled like a good hour or so with that rope Extrusion. I had discs flying out of the cylinder constantly, couldn't expand it in unison. Only after few cups of tea I realised to press S to scale after E. It didn't show the S either on your button display there. Only showed E. All good now! :)

Finished the 3D water well today, took me a full day and I am impressed with the results. The explanations are really precise and Grant leaves nothing out. I made a mistake assigning a second colour to the roof tiles, but listening again, the problem was easily fixed. One of the best educators on KZfaq for Blender 3D. Looking forward to following more of Grant's tutorials.

I've worked in 3DS Max for years, but I made the switch with 2.8 just for the complete amount of ability it has vs max, and learning a new interface isn't easy, so I've searched around for tutorials and yours have by far been the most concise, clear cut, well thought out ones I've found. So many people mumble, or rush through too fast or too slow. You have great pacing! Thank you so much, this tutorial was super beneficial getting me used to a new program :) keep it up!!

Great tutorial! Just some more input on game optimization. - even if you don't use textures to draw on meshes, you should use a palette texture to pick colors instead of 10-s of materials - you can easily reduce a bit of the poly count by deleting the faces that will never be seen in your game (depends on the game, but for example the bottom of the roof) - you can (and should) bake the ambient occlusion into a texture - unity can import .blend files (idk about unreal)

Thanks for explaining your keyboard shortcuts (this is massive for someone new to Blender!) and describing everything you are doing, why you are doing it and the different ways you can do the same thing via shortcuts / menus or different tools within Blender - all at a reasonable pace! Great tutorial, but noticed that thing with object clipping and increasing it to 1000m, so just a quick tip for everyone - when using measurement systems instead of abstract units, try to stay consistent and estimate, how large the real life object would be. Firstly you might think, why would that matter, but actually some things like depth of field for built-in blender camera can work incorrectly, lighting could be calculated wrongly and some other things. And well, it's just easier to calculate proportions for stuff you model.

Thank you so much. I learned an abismal amount of useful information. I learned why the camera suddenly "cuts off" the model, I learned about lattice, bend modifiers, lightning, proportional editing vs sculpting, what is a collection, what HDRI's are, how to copy materials into other objects, how to lock scaling depending on the axis you want to use... and so much basic workflow. Thanks !

Just finished my frist 3D art ever thanks to this tutorial!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! (I put two yellow birds on the roof and I did it all based on what you have taught us on this tutorial. I struggled a bit but it worth it 'cause I'm loving my yellow birds!)

I got to know 3ds max pretty well but fell out of it when I graduated. Switched to blender because my licenses ended and your tutorials make it so easy to get back in the swing of things, even in a different program. Thank you!

Definitely some great tutorials, I've had Blender installed for years but always got discouraged from hours long tutorials that didn't really teach anything, they'd only "show" how stuff was done and focus so much on the shortcuts that I'd have trouble following. You simply teach while not showing how to do everything, so it's easier to learn since we gotta do stuff by ourselves, and you casually use the shortcuts which, for some reason, makes it less scary for me to try and remember them :)

Thank you for these wonderful tutorials Grant. You are a natural teacher, having the ability to explain things clearly and simply. I've had a few attempts in the past with Blender but I found the interface a bit confusing. This new 2.8 version looks a lot user-friendly than before. If anyone asks me for advice on learning blender I will show them your website.
