Portfolios are an essential part of a UX designer’s job application and they have started to become more and more common in the UX research space as well.
They are used to showcase a previous work & skill and usually contain the most interesting / challenging projects a person has worked on to **impress potential clients or employers**.
But are UX portfolios an expected part of the job application for a researcher?
We researchers, who are not always visually driven by nature can find Design portfolios can look very intimidating*, *it can be hard to know what a research portfolio should look like*, *what work to choose and how to present research in a *portfolio format*.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Have a PhD in cognitive development and I’m not a visual or design-oriented person at all, but I think I can offer a lot from a research and human factors perspective.

Hi Val, I wanted to ask if its ok to include academic projects in my research portfolio? I'm currently in college and would be applying for jobs soon and I am very unsure if my portfolio will even be considered if I showcased academic projects with no business impact. Thanks a ton.

Hi! I don't think there is anything wrong with including academic projects, but I would be careful in terms of how you present them. It's important to be concise and emphasize skills that would be relevant in the positions you are applying for, focus less so on your findings and and more on tasks/ challenges and how they helped you grow.
