Create Encaustic Effects With Acrylic Paint - Mixed Media Techniques - Episode 007 of Mixed Media Soul Sparks
How to get acrylic to look like wax. My book Acrylic Painting for Encaustic Effects (linked below) has dozens of tricks and here I share with you the main quality that makes acrylic look like encaustic and this is veiling. From a thin wash to a real looking wax layer is possible using acrylics.
Shop my favorite products: www.amazon.com/shop/sandradur...
* SUPPLY LIST *
Alcohol (When it is available again I am using Isopropyl 70% also known as rubbing alcohol)*
Plastic wrap
White acrylic paint
Quinacridone gold
Golden Heavy gel matte
Light Molding or Modeling paste
Palette knife
Corrugated cardboard or other texture
*This video was made prior to the Covid-19 in the US. I am using 70% Isopropyl Alcohol which is now in short supply. Save this technique along with the stencil erase until supply is available again. I always have some in my medicine cabinet and it just uses a few drops, but wait until it is no longer in demand. Thanks.

I just watched these weekly videos and am so glad I found them. Thank you. They are helpful for both a review of some techniques I had seen and used before and of new ones. I have your books, but for me, seeing the videos is extremely helpful. I work in acrylics with lots of layers and textures, and from what you've said, it sounds like the Ampersand clay boards and encaustic boards would be good choices for me. I have not used them before, but will try them. Thanks.

Hi Linda-thank you for letting me know that the videos are helpful. I sometimes go to my books to search for techniques that I haven't used for awhile and videos definitely convey more info. I love the Encausticbord for being able to handle lots of layers, sanding and scrubbing. The Claybord is more delicate but you can actually carve into the clay to create some interesting effects. Thanks for watching.

The pieces on the wall behind you in this video ( perhaps a dyptych? ) is really awesome!! I think we would have really learned a lot in a video watching you create them. Of course then you might have really given away your mostest special art secrets :) haha Anyway, they are really special...

I apologize for the delay in responding. Thank you and yes the diptych is one from my Space Series. I have embedded glass bead gel into the piece and incorporated both metallic and interference paints. I have videos on my channel for all three of these techniques. I know it isn't quite a class but I do offer those as well. Enjoy and thank you for watching.

I love your techniques! They really inspire me. My question is how do you display the boards after they are finished. Do you frame them or hang them as is? Perhaps you can address this in another video? Also, do you use canvas boards?
@SandraDuranWilson
@SandraDuranWilson 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Esther and thanks for watching. I will do a video on framing in the future but for now let me give you a few ideas. I usually glue the flat panels into a floater frame. I also will glue wood blocks to the back of the panel to create a stand off and then hang from that. I don't use canvas panels because of the poor quality. I will use canvas and stretch it or paper and then mount it onto boards. I do address this in my online classes.
