Note: Microsoft discovered unexpected behavior from having the sketch effect in charts. As a result it will not be available going forward. However, it is still available for shapes.

As an Excel fanatic AND beekeeper I enjoyed this immensely. I can see me using this for my next Treasurer's Report to my local beekeeping association! I was amused that you referred to the bee as "him" when odds are it's a "her" - the honey bee population is 99% female; males are few and there for one thing only...and it's not producing honey!

Wow! You get a hive-five! You’ve really created something which deserves a lot of buzz. Usually charts are just drones, but these are bee-utiful. When it comes to putting sting into charts, you are the queen and the rest of us are just wanna-bee workers who bumble around. Hi Mynda! I was really excited and looking forward to trying to duplicate the charts you created in this video. I'm very disappointed that I won't be able to recreate them due to the absence of the 'sketch' shape outline function. I don't have the option at all, not even for shapes, so does that mean that option is gone completely?

Yes, unfortunately, Microsoft removed this feature for charts as it was causing some bugs that were going to be too costly to fix. I never experienced the bug, so I'm as disappointed as you.

Dear Mynda, your videos are really great and helpful! I am trying to build a bubble chart with on the X-axis quarters (eg 2022-Q1), whereby the original data comes with dates (01-02-2022). The Y-values and the bubble sizes are just based on normal numbers. Any suggestion?

Bubble charts require 3 values, x axis, y axis and bubble size. Sounds like you only have 2 values.

Glad you liked it! Unfortunately, the sketch shapes for charts is no longer available. Apparently there were some bugs they found that would take too much investment to fix, so they disabled it 🥹

@@MyOnlineTrainingHub Thank you for your reply, Mynda. I did select the donut element. But under Shape Outline, I only have Weight and Dashes. This only happens to chart. If I insert a shape and select it, the Sketched is available. I googled it and looks like this is a known problem for some Excel 365 users. Hope this will be resolved soon. Thanks again.

My Excel 365 enterprise edition seems to be missing the sketch option for shape outlines when dealing with charts. It is available if I insert a shape. 😞I was looking forward to duplicating your example! On my Mac, "365 Subscription" the sketched option is visible but grayed out for the charts.

Apparently some versions of Excel have a bug that's greyed out the sketch menu. If that's the issue with you, then update Excel and that should fix it.

Great Tutorial! I have tried to replicate this with my own data, and can not format my graphs with the sketched line option, even when i downloaded your template it was grayed out. I searched the internet and couldn't find the answer - any suggestions?

Thank you! Update Excel. There is a bug in some versions of Excel that's greying out the sketched effect.

When I select a chart element, I can change the outline thickness and apply a dashed style, but the "sketched" option remains grayed out. Could it be due to Office version? I am on semi-annual enterprise channel, so only on version 2208.

Apparently it's a known bug in some builds of 365. Try updating Excel to get the fix through.

Charts in Excel 2007 were simpler to use; just an example: I tried to add vertical and horizontal gridlines at my own defined values and after almost an hour I gave up; I searched Excel Help and internet and all hints did not match what I saw in menus etc.
