We are going to jump into C4D and I am going to show you how I created the macro shot of the Nike Flyweave material in my Air Jordan 31 Animation. We will use X-Particles and a couple simple techniques to create this material. X-Particles makes creating Flyweave fabric easy in this Cinema 4D Tutorial.

For someone who looking for how to set Variation for the Speed. Instead of adjust the speed from the emitter, the particle speed are driving by the "Group -> Emission Settings" now.

Not sure if someone else post this but to create that offset variance type of style in the emitter - go to the emitter and set the emission mode back to "rate" and not "shot" thats why they were emitting all together at once. Just watched this yesterday. Great tutorial!! Thanks love your work!!

Hey David, thanks for the tutorial. A way to add that variation you don't see in the particle speed is changing the parameters in "Emission Settings" for each X-Particles Group (those top and bottom groups you created at 09:03).

My particles also turn to the left. I tried a lot of settings, nothing works until i rotate the emitter 1° to the right . That works in my case. Nice Tuto, thanks

Here are a couple of tips for those not using Octane. 1. Be patient. My last frame at 640x360 took 7:37 to render in Physical. 2. If you are using depth of field don't forget to uncheck the High Q Render setting in X-Particles tab in Render Settings.

Nice tutorial. Should stop people asking Chris about thread/shoes/Nike on AskGSG! Particle Groups take over control of the speed and variation (and radius, scale and scale variation). That's why you can't see any difference when you change them in the Emitter settings. HTH.

I've been playing around with this tutorial now and think the issue is with the formula attached to the plane. I created a plane and made it editable, made some waves and tried again. Worked with no particles veering off to the left.
@dbcontre
@dbcontre 7 жыл бұрын
Oh right on! Yeah I hadn't touched this project in awhile so I couldn't quite remember what I did at the time. I dont think I ever actually fixed it, I think I just tweaked it so they veered off less. I will try this again after making the plane editable!

Ah, yes, but sometimes you need to produce effects fast. If you can create it another way faster cheaper, and charge the same amount of money, that's a win. When producing a commercial, time is not our friend. As I tell all young artist...get it done, get paid. I don't care how you made the sausage as long as it is good. So, my argument is not about the power of XParticles, we use XPartuicles. It is about getting it done.

Thank you for the tutorial ( it's really helpful for a guy moving from Max to C4D again ). Also i remember you being one of the first best C4D tutors, but the work you've done in the Nike commercial is pretty "meh" lets say compared to "ManvsMachine", seems like you aren't that interested into making stuff as much as before.

I think i know why the speed variation wasn't working. Your emitter is set to "step" emitter. Which means you burst one row of particles and then stop emitting any more. However speed variation affects particles that are emitted in series (having time intervals between them - like normal emitters work). I hope you understand what i'm trying to explain. Guys "thumbs up" so he can read this.

I saw the the speed randomization issue and immediately thought to myself "GROUPS"... your particles inherit their speed values from the group once assigned vs the emitter.

Great tutorial, but you missed one of the biggest secrets: HOUDINI For randomly generated and complex structures, Houdini is the industry standard. Not only that, but it is pretty much the only option :/ Unless u want to mess around with the (horrible) node system built into C4D, you are gonna have a hard time orchestrating anything other than simple construction and deconstruction. I would recommend watching the AWESOME reel from ManVsMachine made in Houdini. C4D can do a lot pretty easily, but complex animations are best left to the pros.
