UPDATE: this effect is currently still being tested and developed and it is not currently in premiere if you don’t see it. It is in after effects. BTW, a similar approach to this in premiere is in the clip/speed duration window when you right click onto a clip. Select 'Optical Flow' and set it to any speed you want for slow mo. Yes the preview might be choppy, but after rendering the video it will come out very smooth.

which version of Premiere are you using? I am on the latest version 22.1.2 and Timewarp is not there. Adobe claims that Timewarp has been removed out pf Premiere in 2018

Same here - latest version 22.1.2 does not have Timewarp or Pixel Motion Blur but apparently there are other capabilities that will get the same results - still researching.

You can decrease only as far as you shot in a high frame rate and don’t go below your sequence frame rate

@@JustinOdisho Not yet. My laptop struggles with Premiere so I only really use AE. I could never work out why if TW was set to (for eg) 50.00 that I lost footage from the timeline. But are you saying then that if you set it to 50, it plays at 50% speed but only shows half of the footage?

For my eye, it looks the same. But probably by applying effect you have more control over artifacts, since there is control panel for tweaking settings. But if you just do no brainer slowmo, i think it's the same.

I have an updated version of premiere abd still can't see the effect, is there a way of adding the effect? I have spoken to adobe and they say its not there and sent me the alternative time remapping version which only works on higher frame rates.

I'm going to be that guy who says there's a better way. Use time remapping keyframes and optical flow interpolation. I've always found pixel motion to easily give artifacts in AE, so I definitely wouldn't touch it in Premiere. Optical flow is solid and I've used it in many projects.

UPDATE Anyone who doesn’t see the timewarp in there effect must go to older version 20.0 , do not update to 22.1.2. It will not be on there.

Adobe keeps getting better. May I know the frame rate of your original footage before applying the timewarp effect? I've seen 60fps footage adapting to various slo-mo fx and third party plugins very well. But it is kinda choppy when it comes to 24/30fps files. If yours is 24/30fps, i'm really impressed at how smooth the timewarp played out.

@@JustinOdisho Exif could help. As I said, slowing down 60fps isn't big of a deal. It was always 24/30fps that was choppy for slo-mo. Not sure if you've worked with twixtor. Back in the day that plugin was kind of awesome and it also worked great creating some super slo-mo footages. Also it didn't work for every footage.

Thanks for the tutorial! Quick question tho: Do you also recommend using this effect when the footage has a higher frame rate and I could slow it down the usual way without it getting choppy? For example: I shot a scene in 100 FPS and want to use it in a 25 FPS sequence, so I can slow it down to 25%. ShouldI use the normal time remapping tool or this new timewarp effect?

Seems like it’s just as good with no plug-in needed but I haven’t had much experience with twixtor personally. You can achieve motion blur as well I will maybe make a separate video

It’s a different effect, this isn’t ramping it’s creating new frames where speed ramp is stretching frames at smooth transitions

Optical flow is a good tool as well but this also has many options in the effect control that optical flow doesn’t. Will vary based on the content of the clip on which frame blending technique works best

Great video, Justin! Been following your channel for a long time. Years later, you're still providing a ton of value. Thank you, man! Many cameras that can shoot in a higher fps (120), oftentimes will only do so at a lower resolution (1080p). Plus, you gotta get a lot more light on set in order to keep the image properly exposed...or settle fora grainy image (increasing ISO). I look forward to giving this new tool a go.
