This is a demonstration of how to make quick and highly effective collage paper using a gelli plate. In this video, I use stencils (from @pmartiststudio), produce packaging, and yarn to make graphic designs on tissue paper, which I will use in mixed media art in future videos. Using your own collage papers infuses your art with more YOU!
What are your favorite materials to use with your gelli plate?
Comments, questions, and shares are always welcome and appreciated - Thank you for watching!

Some people don't know how to condition their plate with baby/mineral oil and store it with the acetate sheets meant for shipping only. The comments about her plate may be out of concern for taking care of expensive art supplies.

Thank you for sharing our designs these are actually by Paulla Keen and Susan DuFresne ❤ looking forward to part 2. A plate that has bubbles and even pitting can be brought back. As some suggested use the tape to clear off any bits that are stubborn, then really saturate your plate both side with the mineral oil, store with paper on both sides and flat. Eventually the bubbles will work out. A clean plate is a preference but it will hold up longer and gives more detailed prints if that is a goal ❤ hugs P&M

My gel plate has survived a lot of abuse too, including glossy photo paper ... NEVER again! A nice warm bath in Murphy's oil soap followed by a liberal baby oil massage, a good night's rest and it was revived. PM Artist stencils are AMAZING! Hope to get some soon.

Love your new papers and stencils, and the other everyday materials you use for the collaging. My fresh produce nets look so different and don't work as nicely as yours on my plate. I will try the yarn experiment next time I use my plate. Where is the link for the studio that makes the stencils? They're gorgeous! Wow that was a good clean, considering how dirty it started out. I soak my gel plate in warm soapy water every couple of times I use it. I usually soak it while I tidy up, then give it a very quick rub around in the water with my hands and then wrap it in a lint free cloth to dry and then put it away - takes no time at all.

I store my gelli plates between two pieces of non textured paper. A heavier paper like mixed media works best for me. I believe the packaging even says to do that. How should you store your gel plate
@jackieschomburgart
@jackieschomburgart Жыл бұрын
Hi Pam! I’m not sure of the “proper” way to store it, but what I’m doing now is storing it with paper covering both sides of the plate and then the whole thing inside the clamshell case that it came in originally. I’ve removed the plastic-acetate sheets that it was originally packaged with since the air bubbles left some marks on my plate (those marks have since come off). So it’s still protected by the hard-ish case so it won’t get indentations from storage but the plate is surrounded by paper to keep it in tip-top condition 🤗

I have one of the largest gel plates that they make which don’t come in a clam shell so I e been storing it between acetate too. I went back to it yesterday and one side is ruined as I hasn’t taken the wrap of one of the pieces! So now only one side is any good. What is the best way to store a gel plate? It was expensive and now I’m worried about ruining the other side too 😢
@jackieschomburgart
@jackieschomburgart 11 ай бұрын
Oh shoot! I’d recommend storing it between large sheets of butcher paper on a flat surface. I’ve started keeping mine with paper on both sides, inside the clamshell it came in. It’s been working well for me. I find that the areas that had bubble marks from the acetate fade significantly over time so don’t give up on the wounded side just yet! 🤞❤️
