In this video i show you how i created another Eurorack mini system with great ambient capabilities. For this system i used:
ALM Busy circuits - skiff 6U/52HP & Pam's New workout
Noise engineering - Sono Abitus
Qu-bit - Nautilus
Vermona - Melodicer
Make noise Music - Morphagene
BigTMusic - Monsoon & Rangoon
Total around € 2400,- euro.
Have fun and i hope it is useful!
Thanks for stopping by and i hope you enjoy the atmosphere. Feel free to "like", "subscribe" and share More info about LAM: littleambientmachine.com/

I’;ve now got all bar the Morphagene and the Nebulae 2, but I’m wondering if I need 2 granular delays? I had one for my guitar rig but never found the sweet spot on it. I’m wondering what I could use instead of the Morphagene?

So with the Melodicer, it looks like you can select the notes you want and how often with the sliders, my question is this: Does the device come up with a pattern that loops and you can reseed it when you want things to change or is it all probabalistic all the time?
@LittleAmbientMachine
@LittleAmbientMachine Жыл бұрын
Hey buddy thanks for reachin' out. The Melodicer can not be programmed. You can freeze a certain melody & rhythm, and you can also store them. But further is probabalistic all the time. All note have a fader and the higher you set the fader the more times it will play that certain note. It's really great for happy accidents and you can also set it to play random melodies and rhythms constantly in the same scale. I hope this helps. Cheers L.A.M.

@@julesgaardls you can't recreate it exactly but there are stochastic generators in VCV Rack, and plenty of interesting effects modules that could make up for the absence of Qu-Bit Nautilus. (I want one so bad.) Clouds is in there 1-to-1 and will already get you halfway there if you're trying to experiment with ambient. All the same functionality will be available in VCV but it will look much different. The workflow and patching setup might be different.

Great little video, thanks for sharing. At the very start it appears to show you purchasing the whole setup via a drag-and-drop process on a website. Could I ask the name of the website please? This looks to be an ideal way to purchase a small setup such as this, all in one go. Also, what other ways would you go about patching this system, in order to get a variety of different sounds? My thoughts initially are that with small systems like this, there is a limited number of ways to patch in order to get meaningful results, but that could be a wrong assumption on my behalf.
@LittleAmbientMachine
@LittleAmbientMachine Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for reachin' out. The site your mean is called Modular grid. It has a marketplace and also the possibility to plan your Eurorack setup. In this case i use one voice and yes there's not al lot of different ways to patch it. This is just one of the many mini systems i build, play with, and take apart. I hve some other modules on the side. However the main thing i like to do with eurorack is playing with loopers, granular and effects. Not a lot patching either but great for the mind. Effects bring so much nice extra harmonics that get me inspired. So with this little system you will be able to have a lot of fun though....

@@LittleAmbientMachine Rings and Clouds are already a part of the default VCV Rack / Cardinal distribution. Pamela's Workout it's just a clock generation, so you have several alternatives. The choice of sequencer/quantizer modules you're using is even too big to narrow here. Your music sounds good, no disrespect, but if you think you're using some kind of "unique" modular process, I'm afraid you'll be dissapointed. Again, no diss to you music intended, or to modular if it suits your taste, but the basic patch is still clock > random sequencer > quantization > delay/reverb > mix.
@LittleAmbientMachine
@LittleAmbientMachine Жыл бұрын
@@lagunagfx It's all good :) no worries, thanks for you comment. As for Rings and Cloud you are 100% right (but clouds doesn't have the parasite FW and Rings sounds like shit in VCV) but Pam's can do way more than just clocking. Modules like Mophagene, Lubadh, DLD or Starlab are nowhere to be found on VCV or even as VST (but yes you have delays and reverbs) . But the main reason to me is that there's a big difference between working with a Mouse and VCV or with real modules. I'm very well aware that i'm not using some kind of unique modular process. I do use VCV rack sometimes and I also use iOS apps. My Eurorack setup is for 80% based on modules that can't be found on VCV, mainly FX and granular stuff. I don't take myself to serious it's just a lot of fun to make content and music. Cheers Mike

@@LittleAmbientMachine If it fits your way of working, then fine, man. To each, their own, as they say. I really dig your music. I know many modules have multiple functions, though I find some of them quite overpriced and/or redundant (if we just consider achievable function and disregard size and portability, of course). I personally lean to an hybrid process and don’t mind using computers or even code, so most of my modules are simpler analog elements. Tactile feedback could be achieved through controllers, though is not an “out of the box” experience. I’d recommend you to check Cardinal instead of VCV. They’re very close but since Cardinal is all open source without the commercial aspect of VCV I think it has a deeper focus in stability and quality. Anyway, no disrespect intended in my criticism. The music is what matters in the end and as I said, I really enjoy it. Peace, man

Hi, I am thinking about buying Nautilus. What do you think? Can you recommend Nautilus for ambient music? Also, thank you very much for your videos! Very helpful and symphatic. :)
@LittleAmbientMachine
@LittleAmbientMachine Жыл бұрын
Nautilus is pretty good for creating sounds, especially the freeze functions is useful and it also has some other modes that can be used in order to create new sounds. But you really do need a reverbr behind this. I think the nautilus can go pretty extreme and a reverb behind it will soften the sound. So i use Nautilus more as a sound creation module and not so much as a Delay. The best "Delay" for ambient music is the Dual looping delay imo. Because this gives a very long and organic delay and the reverse function is nicer than the one on Nautilus. If you are into drones then the Nautilus is worth trying. If you are looking for a delay to delay trigger sounds then better go for DLD. In the end it's a matter of taste. The Nautilus id definitly a one of a kind module. You can buy it and if you don't like it it's very easy to sell it :0 haha ......Hope this helps !

Ipad +aum costs around 500 and can do a lot more. Vcv rack is free, so it can be cheaper if needed

I have iPad, AUM, Rack, VCv, Vst, iOs apps (like borderlands) , Bitwig, synths. But nothing is more fun than the real Eurorack. It’s so full of happy accidents. I sold most of my Eurorack a while ago and went on with only iPad and so but that didn’t do it for me….

@@LittleAmbientMachine physical world experience is also important, no doubts. I find small cases more attractive and focused. Not going to get into Eurorack though.

@@wickeddubz I should't have done it either but it's too late now, i'm addicted to Eurorack and making content with it. Takes a lot of time and I don't make any money with it. BUT..... it's very good for the mind and with all the crazyness going on in this world i think it's 200% worth it.

@@LittleAmbientMachine it’s all about being happy and focused on creation. I decided to assemble few MFOS devices in the honor of Ray Wilson and his legacy. No matter how many synths i have, i feel i must do this.

@@LittleAmbientMachine I thought you were making this for sale. And I wanted to test it and write an article of it. But after I wrote that, I realized that it was only one copy of that. Sorry.

In younger years I used to drool over these modular systems. They couldn't be complex enough. And there was only expensive Moog in these days (yes it's long ago). Glad that I couldn't afford it. At least a dozen patch cables just to trigger two oscillators and then having a hard time and patience to get to the knobs which on their turn are getting only smaller recently. Not for me. But but a nice video and keep meditating!

I am thinking about breaking out of my computer sequencer imprisonment. Even the free virtual modular VCV Rack as good as it is, I could never do without it anymore, is not satisfying my curiosity and wish to turn off the computer at least for an hour or two per day. This seems to be such an elegant and well-thought out combination of modules and 2,000+ euros is very reasonable for what seems to be a set up that includes some very flexible modules. One could really get in trouble and spend 5000 euros quite easily on a larger cabinet that might not do that much more than this one. Even worse yet have a larger cabinet and this smaller one as well. Very dangerous hobby, modulars.
Is a SMALL eurorack system worth it? - And how to do it right!
