Great job! When you do the moss next time around, be sure to cut it up! You can do it to whatever size you want, but it's meant to be cut shorter so that it grows quickly and "grabs" the wood. I've even seen people doing dry start method turn it into glitter and brush it on the wood itself. When I cut mine, usually around 1/4-1/2" long segments and use the same exact method you used.

The tanks came out great, the plants still need to grow in some. But the scape its self and the drift wood etc. looks amazing. And I keep a 29 long with a male and female Betta in it with 0 problems also. Its all about visual barriers, individual fishes attitudes and the keepers experience at the end of the day. It can be done and works out great when done right in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching! That is neat that you are also able to keep a pair of betta fish together successfully, it definitely is all about visual barriers! My 40 gallon tank does not have as many barriers as I would like, but that will come with time as the plants mature. The plants are already beginning to melt in this 20 gallon long tank so it’s going to look rough for the next few months 😁

Good to hear! Hopefully my tanks do well that have the play sand in them!

Thank you for not cutting the glue plant to thumb. I use my long tweezers because I literally couldn’t glue plants to anything but my fingers. Edit: that tank came out absolutely stunning. I can’t wait to see when the plants grow in.

Thank you! And thanks for watching! I am excited to see how the tank matures! Plants are already starting to melt so it may look a bit neglected for the next few months. 😬

until recently I was unaware that play sand will raise the PH of you water. it has little white flakes in it im guessing are limestone of some type.

got some above water plants at menards for my goldfish tank. Saw a sweet potato vine but couldn't find anything online if it grows well in an aquarium. now I know lol

They do great in aquariums!

I’m probably going to end up leaving another comment since I’m only 7 min in. I wouldn’t add the supplement to the aqua soil either. I would save it and add it to organic potting soil or peat moss under 2 inches of sand. I have potting soil in 1 tank which is still doing great a year later but I bet it would last longer with nutrient supplements.

That’s a good idea!

Unfortunately, yes, the sand does come in a few grain sizes and play sand is one of the finer ones. There are larger size ones that are meant for the hobby and you can actually siphon them like gravel. Visually though, they are just like any other sand you've ever seen.
