Why do the horizontal strokes not cut the films?
@ClayAllisonNM
@ClayAllisonNM 2 ай бұрын
It can cut the films if you're not careful so it helps to lift the handle very slightly as you go forward.

The purpose of all sharpening tools is to actually sharpen a tool. Meaning how well the cutting is effective and for its increasing the durability of the edge life. The mirror at home or my car can do neither of those chores!

The cool thing about our system is that you can simultaneously have a beautiful, highly polished finish and a great, working edge. Certain tasks, such as bushcrafting and woodworking, actually benefit greatly from a highly polished edge and wouldn't do as well without it!

The title is: Creating a mirror edge, and he proves it. They have other videos available for you to get educated, wicked edge is the premier sharpening system in the industry. No one makes sharpening the way they do period.

Lol this was invented as a money grab, the design is completely unnecessary. Need to use 2 proprietary stones at a time huh? And an EIGHT stone progression? I would almost call this a scam but I guess it does what it says.. for fools 😄

That was awesome though on a softer metal than CPM S110 V. Good luck trying than on CPM S110 V steel blades though honestly joking aside you have any estimates how long it’ll take on those super steel I mentioned ? Thank you

It really doesn't take long. We do them all the time here at the shop and at BLADE Show. I think we probably average 10-15 minutes though it's hard to tell at shows because we're spending so much time talking and teaching by. It might be faster.

Just finished a PM2 in Maxamet going from 100 grit up thru .025 micron diamond paste on microfiber strop. Went slowly checking edge frequently with 250x celestron handheld microscope; took about 2 hrs to bring to mirror polish and splitting hair. Not a practical edge, just wanted to see if I could do it on Maxamet. Same knife in 15v was easier. The WE with diamond paddles, diamond film and diamond strops make it easy to sharpen any steel. Yes, it can get pricey but there’s not a knife I can’t sharpen easily- whether to 400-600 grit for toothy, long-lasting edges to submicron high polished edge (nice for showing off a fancy blade)!

What difference would it make to use the 2200 grit diamond stone instead of the 9 micron lapping film in this progression?
@ClayAllisonNM
@ClayAllisonNM 10 ай бұрын
The lapping film is much better at creating a mirror than any stones. The 2200 stones are great if you want a polished curing edge that is very refined but not mirrored.
@cosmicjest7509
@cosmicjest7509 10 ай бұрын
@@ClayAllisonNM I see, thanks! Would it still be as mirrored as seen here, if after the 2200 grit is followed by 6 and 3 micron lapping films?
@ClayAllisonNM
@ClayAllisonNM 10 ай бұрын
Definitely. If you're following with the lapping films you'll get a great finish and the 2200 stones will speed up the process.

The fact of a mirror edge means little in terms of the overall durability as well as the toothyness of the edge Not to mention many have an opinion of what a mirror edge actually is.

This is a farce. Start with an actually dull knife, with some harder to sharpen steel.
@ClayAllisonNM
@ClayAllisonNM Жыл бұрын
It's not a farce at all. It's a great technique and we use it routinely on all kinds steels. As far as using a dull knife, the video isn't about teaching how to get a sharp edge, but about how to polish the bevels. The only bit of information missing from how to get a sharp edge is to ensure you create a burr from both sides with your coarse stones.

The WE films are diamond films. If you have been using the 3M films sold on Amazon and a number of sharpening supply stores, they are not diamond. They do a great job on most stainless but not super steels. For those, you need diamond.
