CREATING A NEW METAL ALLOY FOR JEWELRY?!?!?

TraxNYC Diamond Jewelry

Жыл бұрын

The goal was to create a new metal that would be used to make jewelry. We took 5 grams of gold, 5 grams of platinum, and 5 grams of copper from pre 1982 pennies, and melted them together which gave us a result that was pretty much overwhelmed by the platinum, almost resembling a meteor. For now you can purchase your gold or silver items on traxnyc.com. For me its back to the drawing board.

Heat the Platinum until it's molten then throw the other metals into the molten puddle. That way you aren't cooking the other metals beyond their melting point for so long. You weakened them. When alloying, it's always best to melt the metal with the highest melting point to molten FIRST. Try this experiment again!

Add the metals in reverse order of their melting point that way you never go beyond the heat needed. As you add the metals you can cool down to the next melting point and keep the integrity of each metal. You will have a much better result. You will also want to hammer it flat then melt it again.
@bejaminog
@bejaminog 7 ай бұрын
That work won't though because as the furnace cools down, the metal will also, therefore not mixing correctly. What you need to do is heat the three metals at three separate temperatures where they all get into a liquid then mix them together

Copper oxidizes with oxygen present perhaps results would be different if you mailed it down in a vacuum kiln where oxygen is not present. This also imposes a problem whenever you attempt to re-melt the metal because of the presence of copper in the high temperature required to melt this new alloyoid. Titanium and stainless steel both react to oxygen when heated so when working with these metals they use noble gases such as argon to displace the air or oxygen around the metal while they weld.
