This overgrown ficus bonsai needed a big prune, and the resulting cutting is put on track to a new bonsai!. Starting with a large cut-off branch, which now has rooted, I am building a ficus raft bonsai. After placing it in position and waiting a month, a first styling is done

I am thinking about doing a whole series of cuttings once I style this ficus. Maybe make a ficus forest?

Wow, what a big cutting! I think your raft has a great future, it’s off to a great start! I’ve seen Alan @ Tropical Bonsai crack a few ficus branches and they always recover. Hi! Your every video is very informative. I have watched nearly all videos of yours on bonsai. I'm from India, a school principal and 64 years of age. Lately I developed serious interest in Bonsai specially Ficus, Juniper and Pine Species. Hope your videos will help a lot to me.

Nice video. I really enjoyed the viewing experience! I've never grown a ficus myself. Do you think it will recover from the snap or is it a long shot?

Hi Tony, I jave good hope ot will recover. But if not, it is a great lesson learned to pay better attention when working! I dud feel a bit stupid when that happenend!!!

Hey Michael, I ue a mix of pine bark, pumice and baked clay (diatomous earth and Seramis). As I recycle substrate there are minor parts of other components in there too.

@@GrowingBonsai I like the idea of recycling ♻️ the substrate I tend to put mine into the garden but I may start washing it and putting it back in to my big container which contains my bonsai substrate.. Because it can become a very expensive hobby ..

@@natrjack965 I do not wash it. I have a few big containers that get filled over winter/spring. In summer I dry it in the sun for a few days, sift and store for next year
