As ever, superb video. I still have three questions: 1. Does this work with Skalp? [to help create construction docs in LayOut] 2. Are the profiles retrospectively editable? 3. How do you fit doors and windows within the wall build-ups? Is that also a parametric facility within Profile Builder. Thanks.
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...question 1 - I assume it is, but I haven't tried it, question 2 - yes they are, question 3 - i don't believe there's a built-in assembly that does this - I think the developer recommends that you use an extension like Double Cut (mindsightstudios.com/double-cut/) to cut the openings. Thanks!

I noticed in minute 2:46-2:49 where you drew your first rectangle profile, you were toggling between planes from red to green. How do you do it? Is it done by using tab key or any key to toggle between the planes? I would appreciate any feedback. Great video.Thanks

You can lock tools to an axis using the arrow keys on your keyboard - I talk about that a bit in this video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qq6Ji6qlnZrdd6M.html - Thanks!

Hi Mate love this, Ive been using components with attributes to generate accurate reports but is very intensive considering you have create a component then copy and paste it multiple times, With the Stud feature you can set spacing 600mm which is Australian standard, but I cant for the life of me figure out to get the plate and top plate to work as a component instead of a profile?
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 4 жыл бұрын
You can't unless your wall length is fixed - that's the whole point of the profiles - so they can run as far as your assembly requires

Justin, I love the videos. Maybe I missed this but I had a quick question. I saw that you created the wall assembly, but can you save whole assemblies that you have created to a folder for quick access in later models/projects?
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew! You definitely can - if you open up the assembler window, there's an icon shaped like a disk that you can click on to save the assembly to a folder of your choice. Does this help? Thanks for watching!
@matthewjacobson7150

Yes, that helps. I haven't had the time to actually dig into this plugin yet, but after watching the video, I kept thinking of all the modeling implications to architectural drawings. It sounds like it can go fairly deep when you put in the right info.

This is could potentially save me a lot of time I would like to apply this type of process to deck construction and ideally linked it to estimator. Is this possible ? Good tutorials thanks for posting thumbs up Justin
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 6 жыл бұрын
I would say applying Profile Builder to deck construction would definitely be possible. I don't see why you couldn't set Estimator up to read the components that are created, but I haven't worked with it a whole lot, so I'm not sure exactly how that would work. Thanks for watching!

Hi Justin, Great work by the way!! With regards to the Profile Builder, could you create bifold doors with this extension that opened and closed like a dynamic component?
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 6 жыл бұрын
You could use it to create the doors, but you couldn't use it to animate them. Honestly, there are probably better tools for doing that unless you're creating a TON of bifold doors with varying widths...
@SteveHudsonhdi
@SteveHudsonhdi 6 жыл бұрын
Thoughts so. What tool would you recommend to build and animate multiple bifold doors? Ideally, I would like to put in the height and width and it creates them accordingly? I would be happy to talk to you privately about this if you prefer?

Hi Justin. Does the program, when using the follow me tool, add in the corner studs for internal walls and external corner walls, if you know what I mean? This would be more accurate when estimating quantities. Also can this program draw walls that butt up under a racked ceiling? Does the program allows for metric measurements ? Otherwise a good video.
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin - these are good questions. Best as I can tell, it does not add in the corner studs to make custom corners, and will not modify your wall in a custom way when it butts up to another wall. It will work in metric - it adjusts based on what the units in your model are set to. Thanks for watching!

Is it possible to make drywall, sheathing and silk plates into components to do the same thing? Instead of making them just profiles so you could make counts of plates and sheathing individually?
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 6 жыл бұрын
I think so - you'd just model them and add them like you do the framing pieces. The trick would be figuring out how to get them to cut off into partial sheets. I'm pretty sure this is possible, but I'm not sure off the top of my head. Thanks!

@@Thesketchupessentials i want make an assembly from all kind of different walls. So I use for the top and bottom a profile so I can calculate the list with Quantifier. For the vertical beams I use components so I also can calculate. But for the inside or outside I need to use a sheet with a maximum measurement. Then the price don't come out the way I like. Sorry for my bad English but I'm from Holland.

Too much time to set up. The essential Sketchup tool will do the work faster and you place each object in its correct place the 1st time. This is a dumb program. Other tools build walls without all the user input. Who wants to do all the preliminary set up and inputs just to do a project, then have to modify it all for the next project. Way too slow.
@Thesketchupessentials
@Thesketchupessentials 5 жыл бұрын
I suppose it depends on what you're trying to do. When I'm not explaining it for a tutorial, I could set up the wall assembly in about 2 minutes, plus if I decide to change the stud spacing from 18" to 24" or something like that, I can change it with a single click. In addition, the ability to extrude multiple objects at once along a path AND make changes afterwards without having to re-extrude the assembly could be a big timesaver as well...
@larrymaloney877

There are other "add-ons" that do the same with less input from the user. Whoever programmed this method wasn't familiar with the rich tools already available and the robust toolset included with Sketchup. Take you, for example, stud spacing isn't 18 inches on center, it's sixteen. So, it appears someone who doesn't know the program figured out a hard way to draw walls and someone who doesn't know construction is showing others how to do it the hard way. Other quick draw tools let the user select from a drop-down list or fill in a box to designate the stud spacing and other variables. All parameters are easily edited without all your lost time.I'm aware you lose time "instructing." That aside, you need too many steps to do a task. Learning the Sketchup "multiply & dvide" tool would be a great start for beginners. And Sketchup has a library of free instructional videos, just for construction. Learn those, then consider if more is needed.
