Wow, I think I’d like to try that you have encouraged me!!!! I needed this, I’ve been trying to get outside and garden more since my husband died in March. I’ve been still working night shift but have cut my hours down so I can spend more time with my animals and garden for me and them. The chickens and ducks enjoy fresh veggies and I enjoy flowers. Great job! When i made my first topiary, i used a rope as my guide for the spiral, wrapped the rope around it n started snipping above the rope all the way around, it worked great, idk if i would have tried it free hand, like you… you got skills

You did a great job especially for a first time. Thank you! I’ve purchased several large cedar and boxwood and arbor topiaries and they are pricey. I bought 2 small shrubs to make I to topiaries thanks for this great video. Note. All my topiaries thrive in frost proof heavy pots in my NE Ohio Zone 5b yard.

I would have snipped the top too Robbie. For anyone else who doesn’t trust their skill level and doesn’t have Robbie’s great eye, you can place a long ribbon from the top of the plant and wrap it widely around to the base to create a spiral, then use that line as a guide.

You've got a great eye! Most people need to wrap a string around it in a spiral from the bottom up and cut along the line of the string.

Wow, you did so well!!!!!!! I can't even imagine me trying that. Here in SoCal, it is so cold, and it might warm up the weekend but it's been in the 60s and 70s for two months. My Italian cypress is 15 ft tall after being planted as a one gallon 4 years ago. Someone gave me 7 ball boxwoods and they completely changed the look of my back garden, made it have form.

Ahhhhh! I love it! I am also trying to add more formal touches to my garden and I’m dipping my toes in topiary, which is how I found this video. You did such a good job. I have a couple dwarf Alberta spruce in pots that I might try to topiary.
