Revisiting the Entryway Makeover project starting with refinishing an antique secretary desk using General Finishes Gel Stain and creating a mirror gallery wall. Finishing this one off with some mood lighting and a peek into next week's video where we wrap up this makeover by installing our stair runner!

I leave my keys in the locks and add a key tassel that is the color of my other fabrics in the room or the colors of the complete look...its a good look and great way to keep up with your keys...good job with the desk - I LOVE to refinish ANYTHING...lol...always love to make something "look better" and "usable"...

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the juxtaposition of the modern wall sconces and the vintage kerosene lamp in the wall niche. Also the styling on the desk was simple perfection. I would love to live in an old home, but have to make do with my suburban dwelling, which I am blessed to be in 50 years this year!

Idea for you: tie a tassel on the end of your key and hang it near the desk if you want to lock it or you could leave it hanging out of the the keyhole.. it looks so nice and finished with a tassle 😊

I love the mirror gallery wall. The sconces are a great idea. I have places where I would love to put one or two but there isn't an electrical source and now I know how I could have them. The little secretary is stunning. I have refinished furniture in my younger days and gel stains weren't too available. This process looked interesting. I would have had stain in my hair though. Haha. Thank you for the tip about the keys. We are fortunate to have most of the keys to our furniture but not all. I will be checking out your link. I admire the artistry of you and your husband and I truly appreciate you sharing. I always getting excited when you post.

Aww, thank you!! The sconces are so handy if you can’t hardwire! I’d love to find some antique sconces and see what I could rig up. Haha. I got that stain all over my hands when I went to clean my brush… oil based. 🤦♀️ I appreciate your kindness so much sweet friend! ❤️

I came across your YT channel recently and enjoyed watching several videos. I'm 67 and frankly your style is a lot of what I like to decorate with (and have for many years). But yours turns out much prettier than mine. I think that the style that we decorate our home, that we each personally like isn't necessarily determined (in general terms) by age but just something within our core. I also recently came across the style of 'dark academia' and again, I was like..."that is me!" Love your humble personality and those fish net hose too! And your cool house.

Looks beautiful! I would like to see the mirrors go all the way close to the ceiling. It would help to reflect light in that darker part of the hall. Maybe even a few mirrors hung on the opposite wall. The desk looks so much better with the darker stain....nice job. I like someone's suggestion of adding your key with a tassel to your desk lock. Is the little oil lamp a working lamp? Having a mirror cut for the back of your niche would be another way to add another mirror and reflective light(maybe replace the oil lamp with a large 3 wick battery candle). You have lovely taste and a sweet family.

You always finish your sanding with 220. Gets rid of the deeper ridges and gives you a smoother finish when staining.

Krysta I love it a lot. I have always wanted a mirrored gallery wall but I couldn’t figure out how to make it happen. Thanks to you I now know how to figure it out. Our house was built in 1938 it’s a 2 bedroom 1 bath bungalow it is small just 1080 square feet. But it has so much character and I am always trying to enhance its character. You give me inspiration❣️❣️❣️❣️

I have a locking antique crystal cabinet that belonged to my great grandmother or her sister...I put big maroon tassel on the key and let it hang from the lock.

The secretary, or secretaire, looks great! Much better with the dark stain. The mirrors really seem to be doing their job of brightening up the space. I love the horizontal one!😊

Just had another thought...if the darkness really bothers you, you could have mirrors cut to fit the panels on your doors in the hall. I know it might sound excessive.....but, it might be beautiful and make the space feel so much brighter and larger.🤔🤔🤔🤔

I don’t know when my heart will if it ever will stop hurting, but im 61 and your much younger I can imagine how hard it is at your age. I had been keeping you in my heart and thoughts. I have a round faced grandfather clock I got off marketplace that is not old, it’s actually battery but it has that reddish hue that does not work so I’ve been wanting it darker and thought about a gel stain. You just solved my problem. Thanks! Your hall looks lovely. I love those lights.

I agree with you - I always feel I add the colour. We had a major water damage claim in our home and the painter brought me the paint chart to choose the colour for each room. He was so surprised when I picked a white colour for the whole house and I said to him "I'll add the colour just paint it white" he was delighted and got the painting done so quickly!

This is fantastic, looking forward to seeing the flush mount light you scored, and the runner, I’m thinking about installing a runner on my oak staircase because it’s become so slick and I’m not very graceful and my dogs fly down it and it worries me they are going to get hurt also.

Your Mirror Gallery Wall turned out AMAZING!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩. I've been feeling like I need to do something with Our Hallway. We are Renting and they painted the walls Grey. During the Winter, it seems too dark for me. I've added a Lamp but I feel it doesn't give off enough light. So I think I may have to get some Scones that would hopefully help! 🤞. The desk is gorgeous. The gallery wall is beautiful. Was the niche on that wall originally a phone niche? I saw that being used as a phone niche at someone 's home but didn't know if that was the original purpose of one. Thank you for a wonderful video. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎵

Thank you Judith!! We had one in our last home that was built in 1925 that was for a phone and had a little cabinet just beneath it for all the things you’d need for a phone. The ones in this house are pretty shallow so I think they’re just decorative. We have a total of three throughout the house, just sweet little features. ✨

@@KrystaMeeker Three? That's wonderful. They are so dear. My home I grew up in was a 1913 craftsman bungalow and had some nice features but my style is more French Victorian Cottage. I am new to your channel am enjoying the Victorian features of your home. I agree that in the more public spaces, the light walls with the dark rich wood really works well together. @@judithmitchell4667 aww, welcome!! Bungalows are so cozy, we almost bought one our first time around buying. Our current house was built in 1932, I just tend to be drawn to Victorian style decor. What a dream it would be to live in a Victorian! 😍

Not a stupid question at all!! I pay for photoshop so I sometimes use that BUT I also use Canva (free version) to create mood boards because it’s SO easy. The biggest help in the process is the newer feature iPhone has where you can hold the subject in a picture and it removes the background for you, then just plug things onto a board together to see how they jive. I do think there are free sites for background removal if you don’t have an iPhone but I’m not familiar with any in particular. Hope this helps!!

I can tell you haven't been out paint everything with a lighter color are your color so it's brighter and area the prep would have popped more if you stay in that lighter

Love the desk and the shield mirror looks fine. Maybe a little Rub n Buff (?) may make it look older.🦘🇦🇺
