Make sure you watch the 2 part vessel with a resist where I use the prefelts. I have also used them in my hats

How many ounces or roving did you use to make this prefelt?

that's about 2oz, with plenty of extra

So how do you know when to stop felting it? If you felt it too much it won't felt to the rest of the project, right?

You just want to felt enough for it to hold together. if when its dry you can still tear it apart, it will not have any problem felting to other fibers.

Most of this tutorial is very good, but you keep talking about things that you are holding outside of the camera's view.
