Last weekend I bought a great twisted and bushy Chinese juniper, and they gave me a discount because it was so crooked! About 2 inch diameter at the base. Can't wait for the spring to see if it takes, to style it and to make some airlayers )

That sick tree at the beginning may be suffering from something fungal. I sometimes get that kind of dieback on some of my conifers, I treat them with fungicides, and it often helps

I like the grapht in the tree in some ways it reminds me as if the tree grew on a rock ledge and really needed to anchor itself if you will. Specially at that angle.

I had a great collection till I left to live in Borneo, leaving them to my parent. When my mum passed. Dad did not look after them and so they died. You can see them on my youtube. However, I had one that survived. I just leave it and Prune it. Love to show it to you. Hinoki Cypress

I have a couple Hinoki given to me by my neighbor that owns a nursery, first one was really looking bad, one little branch, stump of a cut off trunk and big green very healthy hot dog looking branch. I used some raffia because the bark looked tender and I needed a beyond horizontal bend. Did the double wire method, I think less damage to the tree, it's really hard to bend 4mm on right size branch. Then bent the little branch up over the big trunk. Well didn't know if it would live, now a truck driver that delivers to her nursery wants to buy it, it said for display only because I hate to sell a tree until it's lived a few months. I learned a lot from that tree and I hope it lives on for him.

You have such cute little trees. I finally dug up two of the trees I wired and they had some really thick roots and they grew so fast from seeds to about 15 inches and I cut the tops off. They are Maple Trees .So I bought them in the house before it got too cold

Literati bunjin was the only picture in my mind for that tree, but Peter managed to turn it into something interesting. Some carving would surely help for that nebari and makeshift a turtle back nebari..maybe. Until next one, cheers.

It could be that a nice piece of volcanic rock or another join the tree in its potting to disguise the graft and thin trunk. It is a very nice tree indeed

Hey, I have a question, any help is appriciated! I just got a Mugo pine that I had to emergency repot in the middle of November. This is my first pine, so the question is, how do I make sure that the tree will survive this winter? I can keep it outside, or in an unheated greenhouse, or in a heated greenhouse if needed, but I heard keeping htem inside is not ideal in normal cases. (I live in the middle-eastern region on Europe) Thanks in advance!

Am not sure about your winter temperatures, but Cherry blossoms require a winter temperature of minus 5 to crack open the blooms. If it does not get that cold where you are, try overnighting them in your freezer!!!!

I just went and bought a Hinoki and I’m afraid it may have the viral issue-I have been binge watching Mr Chan’s videos and there was a different cultivar that has leaves that will turn brown and need cleaning/ pruning-I mistakenly thought that was the Hinoki.

At this very moment I am slowly finishing my homemade bonsai pots. Classical rectangular shape with raised edges around the top and low profile feet at the base of the pot. The material is based on lightweight conrete mixture. So feel free to let me know if you would like to go with something this less usual. I might have some spare pieces for sale later during this winter (I hope it will be during this winter! :)).
