I been finding Gems form this guy...As I'm a command key user all my life... And beig new to Macs. It's a hurdle I'm willing to endure to use it like it was meant to be used.. Great Stuff..

The built in macOS screen recorder will record at 60 FPS, while your settings in OBS were recording at 30 FPS. The built in macOS screen recorder natively uses H.264 MPEG 4 AVC1, compared to your OBS setting of software based H.264. At half the recording speed and with a much lower quality bar the file sizes are not surprising. OBS is a great solution, but I would look into improving the settings used, as you can still get great quality at more reasonable file sizes. I would especially recommend using ProRes if you are on Apple Silicon due to the hardware acceleration on the Pro, Max, and Ultra chip. I would also point out that if you are editing with your screen recordings, they will ultimately go through another stage of compression when you export your final edited video, this can further reduce the quality bar, it is generally worth using more storage space for your original captures ( within reason ), to not have your final edited video suffer.

I used this tool a lot in my old windows pc, unfortunately it’s not the same experience in macOS because I can’t record the audio anymore 😕 I hope Apple allows that kind of apps to do that in future macOS updates

Great video, however this doesn't capture the internal audio. I can use the macbook's buil-in mic to record internal audio, but you can barely hear any audio in the recorded video. I have also tried to implement the blackhole audio drivers, but they are really unreliable. What should I do, or did I do something wrong @macmostvideo ?

I was super shocked at how much space it eats up! I just screen recorded 2:55 minutes with a small area about 1/4 of the screen of my m1 imac and the size was 1.05 gigs and no sound. So sad. I was expecting like 30 mb. Will try OBS now.

Is there any way to change the aspect ratio or the shape of the screen recording once you have started the recording?? I can do this before starting the recording in CleanshotX and Snagit before starting the screen recording but cannot do it once I start the recording Thank you so much!

my imac screen record stops recording at around 7 minutes, at foirst it was fine but not any more, I have the timer set to none any ideas

Great tutorial. Regarding Mac's built-in recorder, I like to record sound directly from Mac itself. I don't want to use the built in microphone as it also picks the surrounding noises. Anyway to achieve that? Thanks

Have you any guidance for making two screen recordings at the same time - with separated audio tracks. I am able to do this clumsily via an eyeTV and via guidance from you in a previous video. It would help to have clear direction and best approach including recommended added software. I have an M1 mini and will soon upgrade to Monterrey. Thanks much for your help many times.

my OBS take a lot of cpu to capture the screen , any solutions ?

I'm not attracted to the idea of addressing a storage issue by installing and learning additional software. Just to start, a QuickTime file can be saved to an external drive, and the first thing I'd do with a screen capture, except a game recording, is cut the file's native frame rate of 60 fps by more than half.

What about sound? I can't record desktop sound with OBS on mac? Is there a solution for that?

hey, do you know how to fix the black screen from OBS? i know it's because of switching between grafic cards, but it's there an option for OBS to not have this black screen everytime i reload the app? :D And btw, nice video
