Explore how we crafted an affordable urban EDC kit using a Pocket Rack™ organizer and a repurposed shotgun shell pouch. @Brent.Struber - Thanks for taking the time to post. I sincerely appreciate your feedback on this topic. I'm in the unusual position of having pulled many ticks from my body and from dogs and friends over the years. I've also had Lyme disease, and take tick infections very seriously. With that in mind, there are many ways to remove ticks. Here is what the CDC says on removing ticks. For me, using a forked tick remover/extractor accomplishes the same results as using tweezers. www.cdc.gov/ticks/removing_a_tick.html . In regard to superglue for cuts, here is a good article from the Mayo clinic on this topic.. www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/should-super-glue-be-in-your-first-aid-kit In the video I'm expressing my opinion based on how I might use these items. I would highly encourage everyone to make their own medical decisions based on their experience and research. Many thanks for bringing this up.

really nice vid! def gonna add a few of these items to my cart. i do want to say though, the intended use on that nail clipper tool is not a tick remover. it is a cuticle trimmer for your nails! which makes that a nice all in one travel manicure tool.

@blakeash7409 - Thanks for taking the time to post. You ae entirely correct, but it can also be used as a tic remover if you are so inclined. I was actually rather impressed with the quality of that little pocket knife and the tool set on it. For the price, it's has a nice selection of tools to choose from.

@stevenhodgson834 - Thanks for posting and for being a subscriber. When I picked the tools I was really careful to make sure that they would fit onto the pocket rack. I'm finding that these racks are much more efficient at EDC organizing if you pick the right tools for it. This allows me to get more into the pouch and still gives me quick access to all of the tools. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts on this.

Its not a tick remover but might function as such. Its for nail grooming likely for hang nail or ingrown nails

If you manage to take loose the cartridge on the pen, consider to cut the top of in the other end. Then you can use it as a foldable straw for drinking and you can also use it as a straw to blow thru, to add air if you are starting a fire. And excuse my semi bad english, Im from Sweden. 😄

You're right, this was a long video and I wanted to wait to watch it without being interrupted, and before I knew it, it was over. That was the faster hour long youtube video I've ever watched. Really well done and great info, and thank you very much for taking the time to include the links. I REALLY appreciate that. The only thing I can see adding that might be of help is a Fresnel Lens in its pouch. I'm pretty sure it would lay flat and held in place by other items under tension on top of it or maybe slide into your med kit. Something I always have on me especially in the warmer months, is Orajel with 20% benzocaine. That stuff works great for bee stings, bug bites, blisters, cuts. I'd try to fit that in that pouch somewhere. I like the mechanic wire, but I'd have more use for 30 feet of 300 pound test Dacron braided fishing line. That's getting thick enough to where you can handle it, and it's not like a thread, and it's very strong as well, and cheap so you don't mind cutting it and actually using it unlike Kevlar and higher priced cordage. You should put together some videos, but this time build it for hiking in mind, and maybe another for a survival kit. I think this would be so much better than those little tin kits, and like you said, it's on your belt and always with you and that's the big difference here in kits. I'm really impressed with your idea here, and how you put it all together, and I'd love to see what you come up with taking this platform in different directions. Keep up the great work. I forgot to ask, at the 38:04 mark, you have a bit driver with a folding knife, but I can't find it with the other links. Maybe I'm pulling a Ray Charles here, but I don't see it. Could you please show me where you picked that up? Thanks.

@wjf213 - You have some great suggestions in this post. I actually keep a Fresnel card on the back of my iPhone for those occasions where my reading glasses may not be handy. I'm working on a video for what I'm calling a "Body Maintenance Kit" (BMK) it overlaps with being a booboo kit as well. I'm building it on a pocket rack and some of your ideas would make good additions to that kit. Here is the link to the little bit driver with the knife. I was not a big fan of this item. the bits are proprietary and held in pace with a weak magnet. DONT put it on a keychain. The bits will fall off. It would hold up inside of a tin, but the tins that I suggested in the video are not deep enough, bu their length and width would have been ideal for that purpose. The mechanism on the scissors of that little multitool is really similar to what you find with Leatherman tools. I think that's where they got that idea from.

The little tension bar within your scraper is actually to allow (the correct bit size) to ratchet, although only in one direction only I guess.

@DracoWolfsbane - Thank you for your post. I found out after posting the video that the crowbar with the ratcheting component that I featured was a knockoff version. I asked TEMU to pull down their listing and deleted the links that I had to it on the video and in the PDF. I'm planning on reaching out to the company that made the original to see if they would be interested in me including one in a future video. Thanks for your feedback.

If you wanted to minimize further you can use the pliers as a quarter inch bit holder instead of thr ratchet. Works pretty well especially if you do the slot mod for t shank blades

@karmaraver - I thought about that as an option. I might go that way, but want to see how the well the clamping pliers work out. I find myself crawling around under sinks and in tight places with these tools. I'm wondering about the weight of the pliers and their size as a bit driver, plus I want that ratcheting ability and there are options to add that to the pliers. Many thanks for brining this up. It's a path I want to explore a bit more..

The mini pry bar bit holder thingy with the spring bar, isn't made that way to hold the bit solid. It's actually a ratchet. Depending on which side you shove the bit in, it has a different direct it ratchets.

@randyyeager - Thanks for posting. Right after that video was published a viewer pointed out that the prybar was a bad knockoff of a U.S. made prybar that works as you have described. The one I showed does not have the ratcheting capability, because it's a very bad copy. After the viewer informed me of the situation. I reached out to TEMU and they removed the item, but other sellers appear to still be selling it on TEMU.

I would exchange the superglue for a pce of hot glue stick, with a lighter works a treat. Knipex pliers lock too if you set the gap right before gripping, they will hold solid you can even stand on the lead arm, there are many demo’s on KZfaq.

I'll drop one of two pieces of hot glue stick into the aluminum storage tube. the idea for going with the locking pliers was that they are a considerably less expensive alternative to the Knipex. I have a set of the Cobra xs and they are great, but I'm also interested in finding out what else is might be available that offers similar functionality (or maybe more) for less $. @@EarthlingEDC I think your innovation and videos are great, I know you suggested not mentioning Knipex due to this being a budget version, but it appeared that you were implying that Knipex do not lock (on to whatever is being gripped) and that you had to grip both arms together, I wasn’t suggesting their inclusion on this budget setup. 👍

I just wanted to say that I find your Rack system very interesting and a good idea. It gives me a vibe of something like a heavily scaled down "ALICE" pack frame and system the US Military used from the 70s up till the mid 2000s before it was fully replaced. Also very much like the bobsleds pulled by dogs and how gear was lashed to the sleds for transport. I think its a good design allowing you to quickly find and retrieve items and gives a good minimalized option over the Pocket backpacks.. I mean organizers that are so prevalent in the EDC community these days. I thing the only thing I would add to the Pocket Rack design itself would be a hole on one of the corners for a lanyard to be attached. We do seem to like braiding Cordage be it leather or Paracord. As for the TEMU gear, you had some nice options and selections picked out. I look at it the same way I look at everything and that is just practicality and utilitarian. I reminded of the Russian Cosmonaut from the Movie Armageddon saying "Russian parts, American parts, all made in Taiwan". Unless you pay a heavy price for "American Made", chances are its from China anyways and TEMU, Aliexpress, and even eBay as well as other sights like that are just buying from the source rather than paying a markup from a Middleman. As for me, I used to be in IT even though I started college for Forestry and Wildlife Management I switched cause I already knew of the limited positions in the field because I knew most of the guys in my area in the field. Being in IT I carried my Manpurse or Murce with tons of gear so including my EDC stuff was just a matter of attaching a separate pouch to the MOLLE pack I carried. I called myself the "High Tech Redneck". However these days I've been added to the ranks or the disabled due to a chronic illness so I do not carry as much as I once did. Primarily I carry a pocket knife or two or six.. depending on what I'm doing, a lighter, a AAA flashlight, a small medicine keychain fob thing, a "pew pew" device, and then the standard watch, keys, wallet and phone. Now if I only had a 3D printer lol. I guess I could build one..

I just went and looked at the PDF list you made and wanted to compliment you on how well you did making it. Also, I believe the reason a lot of people are against the telescoping keychain pen is that they were easy to lose because the cap didn't secure to the pen all that well and would get knocked loose in your pocket when carrying your keys and then get lost. The TrueUtility brand I think was the ones both I and my mother'n'law lost. If you have it stored in a container or something like that it would probably be fine but in something else is not the intended design.

@korgan7779 - Thanks for taking the time to post. The telescoping pen in the video has a screw cap with a keyring hole in it. I can see a problem with it possibly unscrewing if you were to just let it hang, but I don't use it that way. I might not run into the same issue that you experienced with that pen since it's securely attached to a Pocket Rack. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thought on the pen..

One of the most surprising things I found when I made this video was putting together the downloadable PDF (Link in the video description). It illustrates what you are saying pretty clearly. Many of the items I selected are also offered on Amazon as well but at higher prices, plus if you want free shipping you need to also pay for Prime. The light has 4 different powers. If you keep the bottom press from off it will give you a strong light. You should not use it for a long time because it can burn the led and dry the battery, and the torch gets hot. It's just for kind of self defense. If in a dark environment you use it towards someone you can blind and confuse him/her.

Hey just a quick idea but maybe you can fit some magnetic tape at the bottom of that mini sliding tray tins to better help hold the bits in place so they dont lean to one side and maybe open the lid Also might i suggest carrying a cut off length of a hot guns gluestick in conjunction wirh the lighter. Its like the superglue but can be used in a wider variety of cases

@anthonycampos7417 - thanks for the idea regarding the magnetic tape. Those tins are pretty tight. I use a small piece felt in them to keep the bits from rattling around and it's been pretty effective. In regard to the hot gun glue stick, I just grabbed one after reading your post. I just need to figure out where to store it on the rack and what size I can cut it down to. Many thanks for the suggestions..

Very interesting video. What’s unfortunate with Temu is that some items get discontinued pretty quickly and become impossible to find a few weeks after they first become available for purchase.

I recommend you get a combat engineering wire, which looks like a compact floss case but it's stronger and gives you a couple of meters. It would complement your metal cilinder with the magnets too.

As i go through life i learn more and more that cheaper is not better and is worthless. a cheap screwdriver will fall apart. A cheap airbrush will not paint great, etc, etc. there are some places where you can cut cost, and some where you cant. but with tools you cant. nothing beats my professional holex scisorrs. they are expensive AF but i always have them at hand at home, and at EDC victorinox ones are the best in therms of formfactors vs quality. i got some cheap tools and they do their job, but they fail when i need them the most, so not an edc but as a backup or in my toolkit.

@sageata_verde - Thank you for your post. I think that many viewers of this channel would agree with you including myself. But I'm going to also add that there are exceptions and that's what I tried to find for this video. I ordered a lot of items for this video and then whittled them down to what you see in the video. I'm particularly please with the way the locking plyers are performing when compared to the Knipex Cobra xs. They have more weight, but they lock onto items which saves my hands. They need more use, but I like what I see so far. Thanks again for taking the time to post

Just food for thought but the flashlight you picked has a even better alternative in my opinion they sell the exact same light but it has a much bigger magnet on the bottom but more importantly a clip thats part of the mold so you can clip to your hat and use it hands free its the same price also.

@anthonyanderson5310 - Thank you for your post. The build quality on both of these varies wildly depending on the manufacturer. I've reviewed both of them in a previous video see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jdeHpcaA3LeRfJ8.htmlsi=KyNiQEcNnGA7NimZ . The one I selected originally had a brass heat sink behind the reflector which could potentially lengthen the longevity of the light. The one you describe had no heat sink. However, both models are being made by several different companies and I'm not sure if that is the case anymore. Thanks for your info

One reason that some of us choose not to use and support temu is because they sell knock-off items and steal IP. I will agree that some of the stuff we buy on Amazon and eBay were probably purchased on sites like temu and resold. I've also seen videos of these young "entrepreneurs" that will list an alibaba or temu knock-off item under the actual brand on Amazon. Apparently, there's a whole community built around doing that. On a specific note, the small prybar you posted is called the EverRatchet and was an Indigogo project back in 2018. That little spring inside the tool is actually to be used as a ratcheting mechanism. It's sad to see that listed on sites like temu where someone else is making money from it instead of the actual makers. Another quick note, be careful when plugging in non-manufacturer cables into your laptops / phones as some of those will upload malware. You can do a quick Google or Reddit search to see a lot of victims from stuff like that. Otherwise, excellent video. I love seeing how creative you guys can get when building out kits like this and the Pocket Rack is still one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time.

I suspect the manufacturer just ads the name. I was actually really impressed with the build quality of it. We'll see how it hold up over time though. Thanks for posting.

@keysersoze1537 - Thank you for your post. I don't print the Pocket Racks that appear in these videos. I have a friend who does industrial 3D printing and has been making the prototypes for me. The problem with me printing them is that the design keeps evolving. I've been working on this project for just over a year now and there are now 6 different version of it available on thingiverse. Most of those have been created by our viewers and are modified version of the original design. See: www.thingiverse.com/search?q=pocket+rack+edc&page=1 . I'm also seeing it starting to show up on other 3D printing sites as well. I'm assuming there are now iterations of the design that I'm not even aware of. This is all great news. It means the pocket rack design is evolving and getting better as each new design builds on the concept. Those rapid design changes and upgrades that are being introduced by the community are more inline with a print on demand model for those EDC enthusiasts who are interested in purchasing a pocket rack. There are many services online that will do this for you. You just need to download the STL file for the pocket rack design that you want from Thingiverse then upload it to a 3Dprinting service such as printathing.com/order/ it's a very easy process to then place your order.

@@EarthlingEDC I appreciate the information truly, to me it seems just genius and it’s as slim as it can be as I’ve tried so many different pouches and they are as they come so there’s no real comfortable way to organize my little things all while maintaining a slim profile , I’m going to check them out and definitely picking up one or a few because I can already see my son wanting one and my daughter 🤣 for my edc I try my best to keep things small and light as possible most things I’ve slowly up grade to titanium just to cut on weight but you know how it goes we always try to make things better!. Most of the products I listed in my video are not exclusive to TEMU and are offered by by many major retailers including Amazon. I was approached by a viewer yesterday who pointed out a specific item from my video that had violated the IP rights of a U.S. based company. I've removed that item from the PDF data sheets and the video description. TEMU has also completely removed it from their database of offerings after I brought it to their attention. They appear to be open to these types of requests, so if you have information that you can share with me regarding specific items. I can bring it to the attention of TEMU. After seeing the quality of things bought from Temu I wouldn't trust them to bail me out of a jamb. Yes it's budget friendly, but you're swapping out quality and longevity of materials.

@toddjackson3136 - Thanks for your post. If you download the PDF that is in the description for this video, you will see that it includes a list of all the items that were shown. Almost all of them are available on Amazon as well, and I suspect many other websites such as eBay and Walmart. The big difference for me was the difference in what they were charging for the same merchandise. For this video I looked for highly rated items as a starting point, but as we have all experienced, the rating systems on these sites are not that great. I spend more time looking at common complaints in the negative feedback than the positive. I actually tested everything shown to see how it worked as well. I also rejected some items for not being of a good quality. As with all online purchases, do your research and take advantage of the return policy if you're not satisfied. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. They are sincerely appreciated and bring up very good points that everyone should be aware of when shopping online.
