Just to be clear guys :D Point of the video is very clear, We are not "Copy pasting" any of these designs, we just used AI to get inspired and see how ours compare to the Ai generated image, this is by no means "Stealing" someone else's style or art.

I hate AI "art" with a passion but I find it hilarious how some people are completely misinterpreting what this video is doing. Literally all he did was use a reference and then put hours of real work into creating a great 3D model, how is that bad? If the argument is how the AI generated reference is done with images shared without consent, I mean nobody ever consents to having their content used as a reference for anything else either, if it's on the internet it's gonna be used for references no matter what. While I'm still not a fan of using AI tools at all, this is about the best way to go about it, you're still actually creating stuff and putting in the work, not just being lazy and calling the plain AI generated image your "art".

Although I do understand that the channel owner only used AI as simply inspiration for their incredible work, it still does not excuse the use of AI and the lack of communicating the problems AI currently has. By not describing the problems AI has and ignoring them, people will not know the current struggles artist are facing due to this technology. Also, When people steal from artist, you can argue that the effects are often minimal. The worst that can happen is that they put your artwork on a T-shirt or upload it to redbubble. On the other hand when AI steals from artist, it has the capability to COMPETE in the art industry. There have been various respectable figures in the art industry describing how their entire workflows are being changed because of this technology. Do not compare people stealing from artist to be on the same level as a LITERAL MACHINE. Also put some more respect for you and your work. Yes artwork is often stolen but that in itself is bad. Don't excuse any behavior that steals your work you worked hard on.

You know I understand why someone might see this and be like "ew gross AI" because generative AI is pretty gross when it's used a crutch for actual skill. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with using AI to find some inspiration for designs because occasionally it comes up with something interesting. But do be aware that there's a none-0 chance that a design made a machine learning algorithm might either be exactly similar (or very close) to an existing one. So if you're going to do this, you just have to treat it like using real images for inspiration/reference (and not trying to make exactly what the machine has made for you, which is what PixelicaCG has done) I personally tend to stay away from AI anything though, I've tried incorporating it into my workflow and stopped using it when the novelty wore off. I was spending more time rolling the dice for a good computer made picture vs. just concepting something the old fashioned way (plus... you're not actually improving or learning anything by prompting, you're just typing sentences and hoping something you like pops up. When you could be doing research on your subject that might lead to the inspiration you're looking for like how do grenades work, who invented the grenade, what did the first grenade look like, why are grenades designed this way, etc...). But yeah I think that using something AI made on your mood board for a project isn't nearly the same as lazy "artists" using it to make temporally inconsistent, loosey-goosey kitschy art (and kitshy in the boring way, like landscape painting print you buy in the housewares section at walmart). Like the majority of this video is him showing you how he made the grenade using his actual skills as a 3d artist, this is not a clickbait video about how "AI is going to change/democratize x/y/z FOREVER". I just don't get why you would need AI to come up with those grenade designs because it kept making the most generic sci-fi grenade imaginable.

We are not talking about artist skill, inspiration, research abilities, or creativity when we discuss AI, we are talking about the lack of CONCENT and disregard of copyright AI art technologies has on artist work. I will love to live in a future in which I can use AI as a tool for things such as inspiration or a mood board as you described because I truly believe AI art has limitless possibilities but in its current state, it is unethical and actively hurting the lives of artist and contributing to the misuse of their work. Although I agree with a lot of your arguments myself, this being pinned just illustrates the lack of attention the channel owner has regarding artist rights towards their work. DO NOT settle for a future in which AI art technologies can train and steal on your work that you spent countless hours on or the pictures you post on social media. Settle for a future in which these big AI companies have to respect YOUR RIGHTS to your work and not be scrapped

@@sneakym-i9307 absolutely, that's actually one of the reasons why I stopped using AI besides it sucking when it comes to originality. I know a lot of people *hate* when you bring up ethics and consent in machine learning (especially the two minute papers comment section) so I didn't here. But yeah, I abstain from using AI because of those reasons as well. There's many reasons to dislike machine learning algorithms, it has many flavors of bad. It's mostly hype, it's unethical, it's scummy and on top of that the legality of who owns art made by a computer is fuzzy. So theres a good chance of using AI tools might invalidate ownership of your own art. Lots of reasons to not use AI.

Looks like you've just cut out the entire first 1m40s? The video goes straight from title card to "Now that we have our reference image..." Was that in response to feedback, or just an editing error and everyone below is responding to nothing but the title?
@PixelicaCG

Yes :)) i fully cut out the intro, it was about getting the refrence from Ai websites to use as inspiration but apperantly people just see the title or watch few seconds and start commenting :D looked like they didn't care if we did 99.9 percent of the job in blender/substance and the results were nothing like the ai.

The thing is, THIS is what AI was SUPPOSED to have been. A TOOL to help actual artists get random inspiration for a scene, props, clothes/armor design, etc. But because of how it was developed and the absolute trash types of people behind how it was trained and how they try to punch down on actual artist's skills, it's now viewed in a negative and toxic light, and the people pushing and supporting it who are being just as toxic are perpetuating this current "Real art vs Al" war, to the point where proven artists are accused of their work being Al generated. Which is honestly a major insult to the skill that they have grown over their years. "But artist reference each others work, and they even tell beginners to reference their work. So why not Al?" Artists allow each other to reference our work so that we can help the human individual improve their skill, to help train their muscle memory and get them to be able to create with their own appendages or lack there of. Training AI on artist's art does NOT teach the individual using the program how to make their own art. If the generator leaves, so does their ability to "create", even though they aren't the one making the image.

So basically, if you can't come up with something, just have AI combine a ton of images and be creative for you? BTW those AI images were generated after being trained on real artist images.

This is no different than looking at someone else's art and using it as inspiration for a 3D model. Plus, the current iterations of Leonardo and other similar services only use art that has been consented to or is in the public domain. If you do it from your own computer, then you have to train it yourself, and then you can end up as the one stealing if you aren't careful about what you pick.
@PixelicaCG
@PixelicaCG 7 ай бұрын
I think you misunderstood the point, nobody comes up with anything without looking at atleast few people's work to get inspired, for example if you wanna add clothing to your character you either have to look at few different clothing types that is close to what you have in mind or you have a really strong imagination that you don't need any refrence to create that clothing and that's only possible if you've already looked at dozen of different types of clothing that it formed a strong imagination, so what AI did here is combined all the closest results for us to get the inspiration from.

Inspiration isn't theft. They use elements observed in other work to make new work. This is no different than how a human learns how to make art from observing past artists, except it is done at an accelerated speed.

As an Artist, we're gonna accept that not only AI isn't going anywhere but it gets better and better everyday, it wasn't half as powerful last year and it definetly will be way more powerful next year so thinking we will wake up one day and it wouldn't be a thing again is very very unlikely, so in my opinion the best thing for us artists would be to use it in a legit way, if you just let the AI think for you that's killing creativity, what we did in this video was basically combining bunch of refrences and come up with our own take on it, just like what any artist do while looking at refrences all over the internet.

@@PixelicaCG As an Artist, i'm not gonna accept the systematic abuse of my fellow artists, nor am i gonna accept stolen material from a soulless machine as a valid source of inspiration. What makes art great in the first place is the human behind it. Our experiences in life, the unique things each one of us can bring to the table and our view of the world is what shapes not just us as artist, but the art we make. Replacing this with a generative algorithm reduces the work we do down to nothing but meaningless content. A heartless blob of color on the screen without any real intention behind it. If you image the future of art as a mind-numbing exercise in endless nothingness, than good for you. But i'm not gonna sit on the sidelines and watch the thing i love the most burn down. This whole AI-debacle is a war and we have to pick which side we're on.

@@JulezChilluminati As sth of an artist myself, idc if he gets inspiration from sth and makes sth of his own out of that. If I pick sth interesting from pinterest or similar and have fun reacreating it in my own way, it's completely ok. Sure it'd be better when one would be able to name the source more specifically, but sometimes such information gets lost to time. Not anyone MUST care about such. If I painted some tree sb planted somewhere, I wouldn't have to name him bc some might call it "his". I wouldn't have to search for anybody somehow involved into it's life. I couldn't and I surely wouldn't be evil for that. As long as I healthily honor the beauty and put some kind of work into that, I'd have done art. As long as I'm not lying about how much work of what kind went into that, I would be honest. As long as I honor all work and innocent fun in my soul, I would be a fair-player. If I wouldn't win potential money someday, I wouldn't care. As long as I've got enough to survive nicely and to further pursue at least some of my hobbies, I'm in peace and I'm happy. Otherwise I'd call myself a greedy capitalist. And no this isn't war or whatever where one MUST CHOOSE A SIDE and go fully entitled. Putting that kind of populism onto anything somehow related to AI probably is way more of a problem. Bc it spreads hate and presumptionous thinking. It promotes cancel-culture and therefore destruction of people that don't even do too "bad stuff". Edit: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pqejhdhizM7IYnU.html
