If you sew the 1st and 8th strips togeather, you will have a tube. With the wrong side out, press the tube flat, then cut 2 in strips. Pick open one loop at random lay it flat. Pick open next tube at color joint that gives one square displacement. Pick apart next tube that gives one square displacement from that strip. When they are sewn together in order, you wont have to trim off jagged edge.
