It would be cool if plotwise the hat started assimilating the corpses memories and aspirations. Slowly realizing that it isnt just trying to become a real/ultimate witch but become one that also fits the corpses goals in life. This could go in many directions. For example, it could go silly where the girl just wanted to own a bakery and now you have a magic witch bakery slice of life. Or go dark where the girl wanted something like avenging her family, escape crippling debt (that now falls on the hat), save a friend/or lover/ or family member. Making it more like a mystery, action, almost thriller vibe with cute funny moments given the clumsy character and silly premise overall. There could also be some psychological elements where the hat debates whether or not she is even still herself anymore. If she shares someone elses tastes, goals, memories, nostalgia, etc. Is she really the same person- I mean hat. Id probably start this off with the hat about to give up on becoming a witch. Then she sees a girl stumble out of the forrest and into the clearing which the hat lives in. At first the hat scoots over to the girl in an attempt to save her, but realizes that the girl was likely dead before she hit the ground. (Hence the easily suspicious “found”). So the hat realizes her opportunity after some moral debate, and reanimates the girl, while hopping on her head. Excited the hat rushes to the nearest village (after some hilarious attempts at walking and moving) to finally be able to converse with humans and start her journey as a witch. She tries out something she always wanted to, a tavern. We could get another hilarious moment where she tries facial expressions for the first time and they come across exaggerated and not quite right, leading her to abandon future (intentional) attempts as not to raise suspicions. She orders a meal as she has never gotten the opportunity to eat before, being a hat and all. The moment she tries whatever food item is served we get a flashback, except its a memory the corpse had of eating this food as a child (think that scene in ratatouille) the hat is shocked by this and doesnt really like it. Eventually realizing its the girls memories. Then through the memories she discovers the girls goals, or by someone recognizing her. Like a friend or debt collector lackey, etc. We could use the facial expressions to symbolize the hat slowly merging with the girl. The more she becomes this knew psyche the more she cant control the frequency of the girl having facial expressions. And the more vibrant and accurate they are resemble the same expression the hat has. Could be a cool story, would make a great webtoon as the concept is unique yet simple with many ways to move. I would love to write something like this as someone who has only written chunks of books on account of my awful drawing abilities.

a cooler idea would be that the hat isn't controlling anyone but the person wearing the hat is her apprentice and the apprentice helps the hat with physical activities such as making potions while the hat is teaching the apprentice spells and recipes for the potions that they make

The corpse idea is unique, but I kind of like the idea of it being a live person. Like, she's not a witch herself, they just have a deal where she acts as her body and the hat does witchy stuff for her in return

I absolutely love this concept, It's specifically scarry how the body's expression is always a bit afraid of something, maybe it was her last expression before she died, maybe she was looking at someone who betrayed her

Cute idea, guessing the witch has some magic focused on fighting off necrosis and other such dead body things.

The only criticism i could give it is that the body doesnt look dead at all, adding some visible scarings and dirtyness, maybe some broken parts or deep scars that have dried up but arent closed will really seal the deal. Outside of that, really like this concept!

This is an amazing concept with so much story potential, such as interpersonal drama when the teammates discover that she's a corpse and argue over the ethics of using a body like that and if the hat can be trusted not to kill and possess them. It would set up narratives like learning who the person was before they died and whether they would've been okay with being possessed, and how they fix up the body as it takes on damage. Also, she'd be an amazing support fighter, being able to possess fallen enemies, which encourages the team to strategize taking out the strongest foes.

That's a great concept. I'm already thinking of how I'd make a team with this character. I've been entertaining the idea of sentient weapons that get their own souls and manafest themselves as living people after certain conditions are met with the person who wields them. A character like this would fit right in with that idea.

Story? There once a Witch that made a Sentient Hat to become her companion to her journey around the world. Along the way the Sentient Hat learned magic and support her to any trouble they encounter. One day they visited a small city, while staying there the city was attack by a powerful monster, The Witch and The Sentient Hat tried to defeat the Monster but failed, in a last bit of effort the witch uses her ultimate spell to defeat it, but the monster was only heavily wounded and retreated. The sentient hat move the witch to a safe place and try to treat the wounded witch but failed and the witch died, the sentient hat swore to become a witch and avenge her. The sentient hat went back to the witch home and studied magic in years to become a witch but theres a problem she is just a Sentient Hat, she tried different ways of acquiring a body but failed. While roaming in the forest using a spell that makes her fly (Basically telikinesis to fly) she spotted something, it is a dead slave that was thrown in the forest. The Sentient Hat have an idea, she uses a spell to make the body not decomposed, a spell to control the body(necromancy and telekinesis) and a spell to manipulate air to talk. She uses the body to become a witch and go in a journey to defeat the monster that killed the witch/revenge while making friends.

I was wondering if you can do something like this: In the ruins of the abandoned castle, you find what appears to be a knight walking slowly, which ends up revealing that this thing is actually the vengeful spirit.

i actually really liked this idea, i used it for an oc and expanded upon it, making the corpse have a mind of its own, but still helps the witch because they gave em life. The hat's name is Salem, the corpse's name is Owen. Salem does the expressions bit for them both, Owen does the walking, talking, picking stuff up, etc. Yes, i will link this video wherever i include them and their backstory and stuff. I always give credit where credit is due.

i seriously love that you snuck in some super subtle emotional indicators on her body's face. theyre so subtle; i was about to write a comment saying it's crazy how my brain projects the hat's emotions onto the body's face somehow... then i covered up the hat and realized i could still see the emotions clearly. only then did i realize there are just very slight variations in mouth shape, eye shape, and lighting, and that makes all the difference! especially as a non-artist, i am amazed by your artistic talent 😮

i can just imagine this witch in an encouter with another human lol. The human just gets an extremely uncanny feeling when conversing with the witch. Like, he's really weirded out by the fact that her expressions are cold and robotic. _'What's up with this woman? Her face is as stiff as a rock. She rarely blinks, too. It's like she forgets how her eyes work for a minute and then remembers that she needs to blink.'_

I actually had a pretty good idea with something like this before. the hat was a grumpy old bastard who was put in an "item storage" (for evil living items like mimics) for eating a farmer's baby chicks. He knew and seen just about every spell, but because he didn't have a spirit of his own, he couldn't make mana. So he worked like a sort of hired mage. Pay him and he'll share his knowledge with you as long as you wear him.

First character I ever made had this concept. An ogre/troll chef named Pops. Pops was actually his itty bitty chef's hat that hijacks bodies.

I remember watching one of those DnD scenario stories where one of the pcs was actually the hat, and the whole time the rest of the part was talking to a mannequin the entire time. The twist was only revealed after a fight when a strong gust of wind blew the hat onto a pumpkin.

You should have made it more like a parasite that controls the person as they slowly loose their identity and become this monster of a being. And you could have made it where the person slowly started to lose their physical identity where their body slowly changed into a twisted form.

Excellent design (as always)! I think this concept was also explored in an interesting way in (the demo of) a game called Nevergrave. I think the developers left the demo up on Steam, so might be worth checking out!

ive done something similar in my DnD campaign. My sorcerer is blind, born without working eyes. Fortunately she was seen for her magical ability by a noble who adopted her and gave her a witch hat that is posessed by a powerful spirit. The spirit lets her see through the etherial plain, but only up to 60 feet. she cant see past that. Her lifes goal is to be able to see the night sky.

It would be cool to have a witch that is just a bunch of flesh and uses their magic to control a merionette perfectly (or mutiple poorly), using their body imbued with magic as string for the marionettes

I like to imagine that they would move kind of like CYN from murder drones, thats literally the only example of that type of movement I can think of. Like limp, but still able to move around.

Sentient frying pan with eggs as eyes and bacon as brows. The one spell keeping it alive is also the one spell it knows: “Leg Him Cook”

Reminds me of the witch enemies from Bravely Second. The would be witches are possessed by demon hats sold at a discount with the promise of power and are then possessed forever more as the hat’s vessel. A creepy concept and a good lesson on the dangers of something being too good to be true.

This is amazing and gives me an idea for a character (not stolen directly from this but similar different concept)

The first villain is another hat with jagged edges (who becomes a friend/love interest), there's a pair of socks (twins), and the final boss is a piece of underwear who is particularly powerful.

reminds me of the slime manga i read recently where it finds and takes over a dead body in order to experience human things but tries to not get cut since that will cause the slime to ooze out and blowing her cover.
