A Piranha with toothache, a pig with sunstroke, a performing dog with an aversion to feet, and a monkey who loves intrusive injections…Take a peek behind the surgery door, as under the weather pets vent spleen in the waiting room.
Nick Park’s Creature Comforts took the classic documentary style and applied it to the lives of wild animals and pets, matching a cast of clay characters with human voices to charming effect. Originating from Nick’s 1989 Academy Award®-winning short film, Creature Comforts was unique for using unscripted vox-pop interviews with the British public in a stop motion series that has become an Aardman classic.
The success of the short film led to two TV series, which broadcast on ITV, and an iconic series of commercials for the Electricity Board’s ‘Heat Electric’ campaign. Creature Comforts also went across the pond to the USA where the unique format was used once again to tell real-life stories from people in America. The claymation characters portray very human traits and contemplate absurdities of the universe such as, ""Do bald eagles ever feel self-conscious?"" and ""What makes pigs feel sexy?""

I'd forgotten about these, I saw one or two when they first came out. Always been a fan of W & G, Chicken Run, etc. I lived in the UK for nearly 20 years, and to hear these locutions and phrases and idioms is so charming and makes me nostalgic for what was my second home. It brings out the eccentricities and good old common sense and good nature and skepticism of the British. I'm in awe of the painstaking, frame by frame work this involves to make it so perfect (or just make it at all, really). It would drive me raving mad, so thank heaven we have Nick Park and his team to create these. I can only guess they find it meditative.

William Norton | I had a bad experience with a flu shot when I was quite young, they needed to hold me down and everything. Had a full-blown phobia of the things ever since. The very suggestion makes me break out in a cold sweat. Many of my nightmares involve an ever-looming deadline for some unavoidable poke. The silliest thing is, once I realized you can relax the arm beforehand to make it practically painless, I developed a fresh fear for the strange feeling of pressure you feel instead. When it's absolutely necessary, I find I can _usually_ get by with a good stress-ball in the other hand. I try not to get an appointment booked too far out, though, because otherwise I'm falling to pieces for weeks in anticipation.

@@readg4fun The background noise in each clip for that dog 0:30. There's a cat meowing for the first few, then there's creaking when the tail appears. :) I think they're playing with what must have been the interviewee opening a sweet wrapper or moving in their chair, or maybe the cat scratching something in the room like a rope cat tree, and played with it stopping meowing. They must have been interviewed at home, the change in context from what the original interview was probably about sometimes adds to it all. There is added audio, at least I assume there is some, but their creativity when there's 'interference' with the audio recording is brilliant.
