Flows like the river. Yes! Someone else gets that the smooth rhythm of the song represents the flow of the river that Proud Mary is moving across. Also say Ch Ch Ch etc in time with the rhythm and this is the slap of the paddle wheel on the water. When Elvis and Tina sing a tricked up version, they mangle it because these issues that are at the heart of the song are lost.

shame that the Label screwed them over so bad. They are the reason we know more about contracts. When they signed... the label paid them $40,000 per year - that's $10,000 per member AND the label owed their songs. It was just horrible. The label went through a few owners, but they were all shitty people who only cared about money. At one point John Feggherty was sued over copyright infringement on one of HIS SONGS. It's f*cked up.

It’s incorrect in the video. It’s “pumped a lot of 'tane”. To younger people: it’s short for octane, an alternative term for petrol or gas. It’s talking about pumping gas back when it was a job, when gas stations did that for you. It’s fairly recent that you could pump your own gas in all 50 states.

When I was much younger in the early 1970's, two of my cousins and I decided to form a 'Band," this was the song we chose to sing. My one cousin could play the guitar and we improvised me playing a Tambourine, and her tapping on whatever she could as a drum. ( A tree was always available.) Needless to say as time went by, he learned to play the Bass Guitar and played at various dances with a local Band. Later he also learned how to play the drums, and just recently retired from being the Drummer for one of our areas most popular local Bands. This is after getting to make several trips to France with the Band that is still quite popular in France. Life goes on, and even though 'our Band' never got off of the ground, I have to say that I am very proud of the one member who did make our "Dream" come true. God Bless You.

Grew up to this song in my childhood, still love it from the first day I heard this. In some ways, I blame this songs, among other songs they put on the album, making me like guitary sounds over electronic music

Closest you can get to the perfect song: structure, pace, vocals, instrumentals, tone, beginning, middle, end. Never kind of ages, always something a little different on every listen. That’s very, very rare.

The late 60's, What an explosive time for the development of what we know today as Classic Rock and it's amazing that CCR were right there with their fantastic contributions to the Era !! This song still sounds great at my live gigs. (pre Covid) .. and it works well on the Cruise Ship gigs as well. My Students love to learn and play this song. If you need it transposed into a different key to make it easier to sing, i can help you with that as well. Gotta Love the Classics. ;-) Thanks for posting this video. ;-)
