Unfortunately, I am aware of the visual errors throughout the video (I count 3) due to problems with my rig/software. I'll be looking to do a full system refresh in a week or two to fix this, as besides that, I am fresh out of ideas. So please bear with me!

Do you use after effects or premiere? Could just be cache issues, need more active ram while working on the file, shit gets corrupt fast if you don't have a large enough ssd or m.2.

I enjoyed this essay a lot (especially as I prepare my own study on Innistrad). Magic is intentional about releasing sets that mirror the weather patterns of the northern hemisphere, and I think it's significant that Fall on Innistrad will feel and behave differently than it did a couple of years ago on Ravnica (which was largely an aesthetic shift more than a narrative one). The changing seasons have always created deep anxieties and superstitions in human history, especially when the Moon is involved (Harvest Moons, Blood Moons, Full Moons, etc), and I expect those hesitations will manifest on the cards and enhance what Paciorek would call their psychogeographical elements. In other words, I hope that the Fall becomes just as much a monster as the vampires and werewolves here, and judging by Vitale's illustration in "Join the Dance," I think we're in for a treat. Where Fall felt warm and cozy on Ravnica, it will instead seem eerie and disquieting on Innistrad. I'm reminded of the farmers and woodsmen who endured months and months of famine at the beginning of the 14th century in Northern Europe. This hunger is omnipresent in the folktales that the Grimm brothers collected centuries later, some of which appeared in Eldraine. The 21st century isn't unique in worrying about the natural world's power over human volition. Even Midsommar's central conceit is an atmospheric one: the incessant sunlight presents its own horror in the context of what transpires at the village. When used correctly, the weather can drive the dread in a setting, and not just in the traditional and archetypal ways. I hope that comes through the cards in the coming months.

When I saw the card "Join the Dance" I felt an unnerving feeling of alienation. This gentelmen with candles on his head, joined with other dancer, dancing in name of protection, reaches out to me. "I would not take his hand", I thought to myself, "I do not belive in this. This magic will not work for me".
@bluedog4248

Literally the same feeling. so far from what they have shown the set has such an interesting story telling element. A devil rampaging and spreading fire. A chance to join a dance that they know will not work. The champion of the perished walking through the street looking for people to kill, the mad scientist that steals hands. It is just unnervingly good

While the critique of Avacyn is valid, I feel that you can expand upon your framework a bit. The Shadows and Eldritch sets do a lot to explore the feminine in many ways. Emrakul is referred to in the feminine, and the two most effective at combating the goings-on of the set were feminine (Tamiyo and Lilliana). Furthermore, there is a space to explore the angel/mad woman dichotomy you bring up in Lilliana, as an archetypal “monster” turning out to literally be “the last hope.” Just food for thought, good stuff altogether.

Was not expecting an in depth discussion of the nature of horror when I clicked, but I am 100% here for it. Excellent video! And it got me more exited to see where innastrad goes, since they do seem to be going for a different style of horror each time we visit. If I come out of this set with a Green/White Texas Chainsaw Massacre or even Wickerman deck, I'll be thrilled.

This sounds and reads like a Spice8Rack video and I positively love it! Also you mentioning the witchcraft as neo-pagan for Innistrad’s WG make the leaked Commander legend with a “Coven” mechanic also in WG make a _lot more of sense._ I for one don’t mind witchcraftery in non-B colors at all, it just makes me really intrigued about what are the other provinces of Innistrad doing now, especially Nephalia or Moorland…

A shame Eldritch Moon was just kind of breezed over in this video, I personally found it to be a fantastic set, and Eldritch horror is far from easy to nail, but wizards did a pretty good job, both from art, flavour, and gameplay perspectives. I don’t think we’ll ever really get another set like it, I digress, good vid.

Vince, I really appreciate that you were not just hopeful for magic's story to include these more-than-skin-deep elements, but conscious in your script of the continual teasing OF a real story from wotc through the imagery and power their cards hold rather than actually making, say, for example, compelling horror in a unique medium.

Really awesome video! I opened the set without any spoilers and really enjoyed the aesthetic of the humans this time around, and I kept thinking back to this video too. I even built a green white human ball deck around new general who's a tribal cryptolith rite with legs, just so I could cram all these cards in one deck and see them all together, and I never build flavor EDH decks. Thanks for the deep dive into what I found so appealing about the flavor, it's super cool to have you go into territory like this you did a great job!

Thank you, this is a compelling analysis you've put together. I enjoy your other content but this is great too. I wouldn't mind seeing more like this. Since the drop of the story based blocks, we see so little of the amazing worlds that Magic builds before we move on you the next. It would be nice to see some content focus on the world and flavor of the set rather than just the mechanics of the cards. If no one cares than I'll just bugger off. Also I'd be interested in any suggestions for further reading on the topic. Thank you again for the time and work you've put into this.

Great Video! After seeing the Wickerman clips its interesting that we cant see whats in the mouth of that Wickermonster on Join the Dance. we only see the happy faces and the joyful dance, but there might be a whole different story a few meters up, maybe contextualized on a different card. I always like when different cards look at the same scene from different perspectives.
