Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

Dracula teaming up with Death in the Final Boss fight was epic. The only thing that beats this is Dracula walking and kicking your as$ in Order Of Ecclesia

That was great. Wish there had been more duo bosses following the theme. We had Drac/Death, Stella/Loretta and a pair of evil Doppelgangers, but Slogra and Gaibon are still relegated to being regular enemies instead of bosses, and Minotaur and Werewolf don't get a chance either. Or any two traditional Castlevania bosses being paired together in a complimentary way, really. The sky's the limit.

That always cracked me up. One of the hardest Metroidvanias and Dracula doesn't even bother with a second form, he just walks over and kicks Shanoa's teeth in.

Hardest order of ecclesia boss is definitely the shadowdancer guy. You need a very precise pattern of jumping and striking cuz one hit from him removes half of ur health.

@@tacoman422 Yeah, the Dark Meggido is a VERY strong spell, it even blasts through invincibility cheats. He has infinite health too so the only way to win is to use [Dominus]

I suspect the bad ending Game Over is because Death eventually finds a moment to kill Brauner and release the seal on Dracula, thus unleashing hell shortly after

it is weird seeing it honestly but i guess if it can happen in aria of sorrow if you completed a extra mode where you do some boss or bosses to get the fastest time (idk honestly), then i guess it is fine.

Brauner is such a cool villain, he is like a mix between Dracula and Orson from FE8: he lost people he loved and hated humanity for it, but the loss affected even more than that, so he deluded himself to think that his daughters could be brought back.

Erik is one of my favorite character in this series. Even though he died in this one at least he has role that give us more detail what kinda person he is. This version of Erik is much better presentation than Castlevania Judgement where he appears as little boy.

Same happened to me, after finishing like, half of the nest of evil my save got corrupted. I had to replay the game to get there again. Luckily after replaying it I did complete it. It was tough as fuck

Same happened with me when I was playing my downloaded version of Kid Icarus Uprising, except it wasn't just the save data, it was my entire download history. My micro SD card got corrupted, and I had to buy a new one, and redownload all that I had. That includes all my save Data for PKMN Yellow and Crystal, Shovel Knight, Cave Story, Shantae Pirates Curse, and more, like my wallpapers and game updates. Somehow, my two DSI ware games luckily didnt get effected, Shantae Risky's Revenge, and more luckily for me, Zelda Four Swords, which isnt even available on the system anymore! Guess those were saved on the system's memory.

8:00 Desync. Yes, I've watched that intro enough times to know. It, along with the game, are one of my favorites in the series. It's absolutely steeped in Castlevania lore and references, but not in a bad, pandering sort of way, and it strikes the perfect balance between being too easy (Symphony of the Night) and too hard (Order of Ecclesia). Great soundtrack too. I also like the concept of another powerful vampire saying 'screw it, Dracula's failed like ten times now, I can do better than him'. Pity they didn't make a painting level to take advantage of the historical setting; Bloodlines had skeletons in Kaiser helmets, PoR could have had a burning Berlin level with skeletons piloting tanks and biplanes even if they couldn't wear Swastikas.

I never died as the sisters so I never saw the game over screen of it until now. Gonna haunt me a while. The other times I was more or less shocked about the game over screens were Aria of Sorrow before and after Soma defeated Grahams and Order of Ecclesia before and after Draculas resurrection.

To be honest, I wasn't that fond of Portrait of Ruin when I played it a few years back, but that was probably because I was playing the game on a cheap flashcart which caused the game to freeze frequently because I didn't really feel like dropping 50 Euros or whatever to get my hands on a used copy. I'll have to buy a proper copy sometime and play it again.

Portrait of Ruin might become my favorite of the metroidvania style Castlevanias. Gameplay is cool, music is awesome, and me being an artist, I love the painting concept of the game. I haven't played Dawn of Sorrow or Harmony of Dissonance yet, but once I play those, I will decide.

However, Iga denounced this version, so the continuity is a bit confusing on that part. also 1:54 and 15:43 LMFAO XD

Castlevania is a f#kin tragedy. A knight who got betrayed by his best friend and lost his beloved one, a vampire forced to kill his own father, a vampire hunter who lost his love, an orphan who lost her emotions and everything she had and got forgotten forever, two hunters who died earlier leaving their families and a student who fought for his love and even tried to save the world but in the end became the monster he once fought.

i liked portrait of ruin and order of ecclesia a lot, i like symphony of the night, to me that one wasn't overrated, my favorite castlevania is aria of sorrow on gba, i still go back to that one from time to time. :)

Portrait of Ruin was the first Castlevania I finished, of course I got the bad ending; not being accostumed to the series and his bad endings I genuinely thought it was the true ending and hated it. So glad I returned to it and finished it for real, it's still my favourite Castlevania game!

I guess it depends on how devs look at video-games a medium, and how they see rewards in general. In a way, an ending is a game's ultimate reward. It's the culmination of the player's (and by extension, the character's) efforts. It'd make sense to reward more someone who put more effort than someone who didn't. They put more effort into it, so they should've more return on their investment. On the otherhand, it doesn't really take into account the player's skill as, well, a player. To some, like kids or people who know nothing about video-games, playing on easy is already extremely hard. So playing on the harder difficulty is out of the question. And yet they are punished for doing their best, which is considered "subpar" for some arbitrary reason. Both reasonings are valid, but there are equally as many reasons to favor one over the other. In real life, people who don't do well enough, even if they do their best, are rarely rewarded as well as those who do well. But, on the flipside, videogames are not real life. They are a medium. They tell a story. And it doesn't make much sense for a story to change based on the player's performance. A movie won't change just because you decided to watch it on a DVD instead of a theater. Imo, both approaches are valid, they just need to fit the game, and they need to be handled properly (unlike Castlevania, where it's mostly "go to a random area of the game and find an item/skill the only way you'll be able to know you need is via a cryptic hint you get from beating the bad ending.")

It's an 80s/90s thing, don't worry about it. Back then easy was just seen as for younger children or keeping the truer ending as an award for playing on a harder mode. I remember this happening on Disney games a lot, like Hercules.

I think Golden Axe nails it really well. There is a Beginner mode, where you can go only to up to the 4th stage (but the boss is a different one from the normal difficulty), and when you finish it, you just see a little message telling you that "more adventures awaits you", instead of the regular little ending and staff roll. It doesn't really blame the player for going easy, it's just telling you that the game's true experience is on the normal difficulty, and grants you a "exclusive" boss fight for doing so.

Yeah, just make sure you never, ever see the game over screen if you died as Charlotte and make sure to use an emulator so you can save state and load state

34:29 There's actually three other modes you unlock. The two modes you said are ther in the video but the third mode is called "Old Axe Armor" mode. You get it after I kid you not, killing 1000 old axe armors in Jonathan mode. Do it at your own sanity.

Cool video, I want to play this game now. The only Castlevania I've played is Dawn of Sorrow. Although, I was kind of hoping that not curing Vincent would have been a bad ending where he turns into a vampire and maybe becomes the villain of a future game? Idk I think that would have been neat.

If never purified... Vincent: They had the power to cure me... And yet... Humanity is so cruel... And then Vincent became Lord of Dracula's castle in the late 1960s, forcing Jonathan's son to go after him. ...Or Jonathan again. If Julius can kick ass at 56 years old, I'm sure Jonathan can too.

Man, I love later Castlevania games because of their resemblance to the old Metroid titles but they bear too many bad endings, that I would fall into if I played most of them. So seeing them in here by Git's commentary has been always great. I'd never know that those two games were connected at all since I don't know all of the Castlevania lore. Still, it would be amazing to find out all of that by myself... But I'm not particularly sad about this. As I said, Git commentary is perfect for stories like these. And... holding dpad up as Charlotte. All of us would deny that we've overdone that throughout the game but we wouldn't deceive anyone, lol.

I think you can make a case for Dracula turning into Drolta being kinda similar to what happened to Isaac in Curse of Darkness. The ritual to resurrect Dracula required a host body for him to inhabit, and that just so happened to be Drolta.

If I remember correctly, you can fight Dracula and Death with the Sisters by glitching out of bounds, but I don’t think anything special happens if you win

Castlevania Generations is by no means an easy game. But i still like that it has 2 characters, and it changes from the tradition of having the main character be a Belmont.

Tfw Eric Lecarde's own in-game spritework for Bloodlines contradicts the cutscene spritework. If anything, Portrait of Ruin proved the in-game Bloodlines sprites are the canon design. Konami...what the Shaft is up with THAT?

Ah Portrait of Ruin the one castlevania game Where I fully completed it got all the Spell and mastered all the sub weapons, whip vincent back to health (undead killer cure him strangely enough but not the Sisters), Kicking Johnathan butt as Charlotte and using the Talk option before and after that one boss fight Beat the game in hard mode (all of it) and got blinded by Vincent alt Portrait I was like "Ahh too bright!" when I saw it. Beat the whip memory using only cream pie. Fun times to this day the only room I fear is the room full of Cave troll in the Nest of evil portrait.
