"So there was this girl, right? And the other kids at school like made fun of her for being Goth and stuff, and her name was Tabitha but they called her Stabitha and said she like drank blood and was a vampire and stuff because she liked to wear black and didn't listen to their stupid pop music and stuff. She was totally counter culture, and didn't fit in, and the bullies made her life miserable, and like that. And so one day she came to school and literally stabbed everyone, and drank their blood, for real, like they always said to bully her, and like she laughed and said this is what you wanted right and they all like cried and peed their pants and stuff. Then died, because she killed them. And then Stabitha ran away from the school and they never found her and now she lives in the woods but is like, a ghost with powers. And if you tell me the band I like is lame again Stabitha is going to climb in your window at night, and cut you, and drink your blood. She has vampire fangs for real now, and long sharp claws like knives, to stab people. Yeah." For real though, absolutely top notch, what a Halloween treat! Thank you for this gift.

I think part of what makes "Ted the Caver" so effective is that the guy who wrote it is an actual caver and most of the story is his real recollection of a cave he explored. At some point he thought, "It would be fun to add a bit a creepiness to this." It's a pretty long tale, you get really invested in his zeal for exploration and discovery, meanwhile the creepiness and unease builds slowly.

Great video. I still remember when Jenny talked about Candle Cove and how the Skintaker broke her suspension of disbelief. "When they adapted the creepypasta into a season of the TV show _Channel Zero_ the writers changed the name of the skeleton to Captain Jawbone [or something] and the fans of the creepypasta were pissed about it. But the fans are wrong, 'Jawbone' makes a lot more sense for the name of an skeleton on a children's show, 'Skintaker' is stupid"
@CrazyRiverOtter
@CrazyRiverOtter 7 ай бұрын
I could see the Skintaker being a villain in something like Courage the Cowardly Dog... though they'd probably leave the "steals skin" thing an implication haha
@evlpunky
@evlpunky 7 ай бұрын
It's been a long time since I read the actual story, so there are most likely details I'm forgetting, but considering the way some cartoons try to get as much possible pass the censors, skintaker doesn't sound too out there.
@gigastrike2
@gigastrike2 7 ай бұрын
I think it's weird that it's included at all. It doesn't sound like it has anything to do with anything, as the kids watching the show didn't have their skin taken. It's like the author was part way through and was like "this isn't actually scary". So they threw in a creepy skeleton for no reason.

There's just something about Smile Dog I think. It just creates a visceral reaction unless you've got yourself intensely jaded to its image. It's sort of like, yeah you can prepare yourself for a shot to not be a big baby about it, but it'll never not sting when the needle goes in. That's what even glancing the damn image is like no matter how much you've seen it before.

I’m going to make a lot of people old right now. Analog horror focuses a lot on old vhs tapes or old games like Mario 64, but we’re getting to a point where analog horror is slowly catching up with us. If you’ve ever played with a sky landers toy or any of those toys to life games, those could very soon become their own analog horror series.

Yeah. The Caver story sounds like a really good example of less is more with horror. Just the slight lack of details making the reader imagine what is in the cave works alot better than revealing it, as well as building a ominous, tense atmosphere.

I know you said we don't need to get into that but I agree. I don't think Skin Taker is too far fetched for a kid's show. I feel like early (and then late with the frequent Squidward torture) SpongeBob got away with shit of that caliber. (And while I never watched much of it I'm sure Flapjack also qualifies). Flying Dutchman, the hyper realistic renders of disgusting stuff. Kids were exposed to gross and unsettling concepts and characters all the time. Some really weird and inappropriate shit gets past execs and censor boards more than you'd think. So yeah it's like the one thing here I'd disagree with Jenny on.

Avandoned by Disney is actually a 3 part series. How the photo negative Mickey costume came to be is touched upon in the other works by the same author. I dont think youre giving the story enough credit, for a work of fiction, it does what it sets out to do really well. It builds up suspense very well and creates an excellent atmosphere throughout the story with descriptions of subtle details, and a bunch of little twists, like with the python. Its just realistic enough that to an average layman unfamiliar with the workings of Disney parks, it almost sounds like a true story up until the supernatural elements, which are at the end of the story anyway. And at that point, your average reader is already engrossed in the narrative.

Yeah, I read the story, and and everyone Is free to like what they like, but for me, it’s the tiny details that ruin the story. I personally think the 80 ft Python is a little silly. For reference, Titanoboa was only 50 ft long, so a random python living in a defunct theme park outgrowing a prehistoric creature just feels a little funny and not thought out to me.

5:00 Or maybe, hear me out Jenny. Maybe, it’s supernatural shit. Also, why aren’t the blood packets colored yellow or at the very least lemons? You literally even had yellow blood all over the room.😂 Edit: 6:45 Slendrina.

Stellar animation! Also the perfect clip to demonstrate how overly subjective critics like Jenny Nicholson and her ilk present their opinions on others art and how ridiculously self-righteous they come across when doing so! 😁😁🤣
