you are beautiful. I have French Canadian heritage on my fathers side English on mothers side. I look French but as I watched this and studied about about the Creole culture. I look like these people. I love my French heritage. You are beautiful. back in the 50s 60s people did what they had to do to better and provide. It was such a different time back then. I am in my 60s. I love all people. I judge by character only. God bless us all in these trying times.

I like how Old school Creoles had a good sense of family the connection to their historical roots there's only flaw that normalized demonizing darker skin Creoles or darker skin blacks which I feel is a form of racism. Growing up in the South (New Orleans) I definitely experienced more (overt) racism from old school Creoles than white people during my childhood. But nowadays pretty much everybody's embracing being black.

Get out of our mix fool! Colorism was important to creoles Our race started out with French planter grandfathers bidding for the most beautiful slave girls off the ship Their children were free just by their skin color You come up to darken those days and you can get locked up Thinking you were an escaped slave It was important to be fair skinned You wouldn’t know about that because you’re on the outside looking in and just trying to hate Take your shit somewhere else It’s not our fault you’re black and have no culture Go figure one out and leave us alone

I'm glad I was able to find more history about my Creole roots. My great grandfather was a Haitain who spoke Creole and from what I gathered he moved to Louisiana. He was ashamed of his French language so he would get on my mother and aunts when they tried to speak it. Then there is the assault of my great great grandmother by her german slavemaster n there are other Louisiana blood I'm not clear on. But enough about me, I was told by my 12th grade music teacher who was Creole that there was a Creole man who was passing himself off as white. Married a white woman n passed his kids off as white. Distanced himself from every part of his ancestry that wasn't white. I didn't know how common something like that was until I saw this documentary. Whole families separated and or destroyed cause some think it's better to assimilate and that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

Umm there are white creoles according to the original definition of the word. All the children of the French who settled in the New World were considered creole. My ancestors were from France and Spain and their white children were considered creole. However, presently, it is used to mean a mixture of the races who speak French.

True Creoles don’t have an identity crisis like many supposedly “Creoles “ in New Orleans. They didn’t mistreat their brown skinned Creoles. It’s not many “Creoles “ who could pass for White. You had a family of 6 siblings, and 2 light skinned, 2 brown skinned, 1 dark skinned and 1 look White 🤣 true story.

We need to preserve the Louisiana Creole culture, I took a few city tours with friends from out of town in 2019 and the tour guides said creoles are Louisiana born generation of parents from France or Spain ( Old world) totally dismissing or disregarding creoles of color which live here til this day. Not good, not cool and we need to do something about this before they erase our history and culture.

People travel to Louisiana to see the French Quarter, Spanish architecture, and hear the stories of there mixed descendents of Louisanna Creole people. Those free people of color are the children of these so called Spanish/French descendents many of them. Why are you trying to seperate this history when it is the same?
@josesantiago9866
@josesantiago9866 3 жыл бұрын
@@Renzee-ct4wz you should read again, I'm not trying to separate anything. But this city was prosperous and world renowned because of its free people of color who were mostly creoles but you won't know that until you do your research. It's the way they present historical demographics that just needs further elaboration to those who are not from here buddy. Credit is given where credit is due. Many people leave these tours more confused than the start. I've been working with concierge services for 6 years.

@@josesantiago9866 i think the problem is many Northerners from Anglo-British who have no historical, genetic or cultural ties to Louisanna are moving down there, buying property and claiming the title "Creole" then they want to teach real Louisanna descendents and the world what a Louisanna creole is.

I truly enjoyed this documentary. My family is Cape Verdean; we were the first Creole culture on Gods Earth… formed in the 1400s by Portuguese and Africans. I do want to explain some concepts to you guys that I think you don’t understand about being Creole. During our creation, Europe was basically being eradicated by disease. In order to attempt to repopulate, Latin monarchs and the archdiocese came up with an actual strategic plan using the African. See, Africans were already in Europe especially Portugal, Spain and Italy. We were surviving the he plagues. Anyway, both the Carnary Islands and Cabo de Verde were used as breeding spots, which is the literal meaning of Creole (Create/breed). On the Canaries, they literally either murdered the African or bred. This is a source of humor for us regarding Spaniards coming from the Canaries and swearing they are 100% Europeans. Anyway, once they achieved a successful format with Cape Verdean they knew they could apply it to other parts of the world… bc let’s be honest, Europe did not have enough ppl to populate three, no four, additional continents. So, what I am trying to clarify for ppl in Louisiana is that you have to have African and Latin blood to be Creole, Germans/Irish/Brits are not Creole bc they are not Catholic. They may have mixed ppl and Huguenots, but they are a whole different ppl. I think what happened in Louisiana and other colonies, is the antebellum notion of Creole… the word became sexy and elitist, and who would not want that. However, only there are “100% white” ppl considered Creole. Now, I know there that the word has been redefined many times to fit what the ppl in charge want it to fit. But, I hope and pray this gives you more insight into your actual historic origins and the Creole culture was literally started off the coast of Africa. Bear in mind please. So when I see ppl like that gorgeous older lady completely reject Africa, it comes off as ignorant and hurtful. -CVCruz

It’s not because your dark skin lol Creole culture was created by a group of people that was culturally mixed and racially mixed with all 4 French, Spanish, African, and Indigenous. You are not going to go to a Mexican person and try to tell them that you are Mexican and redefine what Mexican is lol nor are you going to go to a Korean and try to redefine what a Korean Asian is. Well that is the issues that Creole people face is people trying to redefine what Creole Culture is and what a Creole person is. People have been going about behaving like the Creole identity is just up for grabs and that anyone can take claim to it. Just because a grandparent is Creole doesn’t then let you say that you are a full Creole person. Just like if you have a Mexican or white American parent that doesn’t then make you Mexican nor does it make you a white American because those people as well as Creole people have their own look and identity. That just means that you have A Creole grandparent and that you are still Black American especially if you were raised in a black American culture and community. And if anyone is being mean to you about your skin tone I bet it is other black people not mixed nor white people. We all know that black people Disparage each other the most then try to cast the blame on other people.

terioze9 New Orleans is all ready a small population to begin with. Creoles have assimilated with Blacks probably dating back to the 1960’s on up. Very few Creoles could pass for White. This is why they assimilated with Blacks.

If Beyoncé is Creole most of the city of New Orleans is Creole regardless of race. Being mostly white doesn’t make you creole culture does. Beyoncé may be descendant of creoles but does she eat the food, do the dances beyond a stage performance, understand the language etc. it’s like a white or black Hispanic person who moves to America and totally assimilate. They are Hispanic at that point only in name. The same with Creoles regardless of being mostly white or mostly black.

Ninpo Budo please read my comment again. Creole is an ethnicity. Like any other. I never said it was a race or a mix of a race, a previous commenter did and my comment was a direct response to that comment. I understand the 1803 thing but most people won’t ever know if that is true about their family. Their are many other ethnicities that can become creole again because of assimilation into the culture. Just like there are people of primarily German descendant who are now being referred to as Latinx because they migrated to US as Spanish/Portuguese speakers from Latin America. So it can be argued that Creole is just like it always was, born in the colony, means you will be mostly cultured to the colony and if so you too are creole.

Yes sir the reason they put that law in play The 1drop ( ink in paint can) because if u drop 1 spot of black ink into white paint the white paint is no longer white thats factz. And yes even if the black had been white washed its still possible for a child to come out Black or with black phenotypes. Please watch the movie about a south african women name saundra who was born to White parents and though she was lighter then the Dr. Speaking he hate Black phenotypical traits of A black women . It was generations long gone early in settlement but it was on both her white parents sides though white washed enough for generations they livedas white she clearly wasnt. AND YES SHE WAS THEIR CHILD 100% she had to change her race to black just so she could live. So hes wrong

So many people confuse Creole with mixed race but it is not, it’s a culture. Unfortunately for mixed race Louisianians, we were never given a proper identification like they do in countries like Brazil. If we weren’t victims of the one drop rule, we would’ve been able to preserve all parts of our heritage. We would’ve been able to preserve our practices of being multi heritage . But we were all labeled as Black and it has caused so much confusion because you are no longer connected to your tribal identity . Not all who are Creole have French ancestry. This is now being shown through DNA tests. Many people that I know who identified as having a lot of French DNA actually have Irish ☘️ DNA...and no Native American ancestry (which is what we’re told Creole is, right❓French, Indian and African) funny right lol. ❓
@23ahndra

Creole is a culture. Many French Creoles know their heritages and lineages through their mothers and fathers. What you’re saying is foolish. DNA cannot possibly tell you your history. #creoleproud
@Dragoncam13
@Dragoncam13 2 жыл бұрын
You can do DNA testing and still not have a single ancestor from Louisiana after the Louisiana purchase. The term “Louisiana Creole” slowly started to move to people that have the culture,mixed heritage,or both and those are the main people calling themselves creoles nowadays since it’s what they are. And since the term “Creole” means to mix,mixed race creoles pretty much have their classification right there. Creole and nothing else
