I find it interesting that you can view cooking and baking as a science where you must follow the instructions of everything to achieve the perfect result, or as an art form where it doesn't really matter what you do because food can be what we want it to be. P.S. that bread snail was really adorable. I'd actually rather make that than the normal cresents lmao
@ThetaReactor
@ThetaReactor 7 ай бұрын
Baking is definitely a bit more scientifically rigid than cooking in general. Puff pastry does not tolerate sloppy work well. Baking is wizard magic, copied precisely and uniformly from one's grimoire. One misspoken word or somatic gesture and the whole thing goes *poof*. Cooking is sorceror magic, a free-wheeling onslaught of one's will onto the ingredients in question. As long as you follow a few broad guidelines, your intuition can get you a good result. Obviously, there's still room for creativity in baking, but it happens around the act of creation, not within it. You can choose the ingredients that go in, and you can shape the output as Vi has so deftly done here, but if you half-ass the actual dough-making parts it crashes the whole thing.
@Neo-dt3sn
@Neo-dt3sn 7 ай бұрын
@ThetaReactor I think you're right about the differences. I really like your analogy to magic lmao. If wizards take recipes from their grimoire, there are still pro wizards that are able to add pages to that grimoire. It's a lot more difficult to make something new in baking, and while I suppose you can always take a recipe and add your own spin to it, it's not the same as inventing something like sponge cake.

Its about the creativity to both mess around with stuff and see what happens, while understanding the natural patterns that exist and how they can be incorperated or rebelled against. Its not about getting any kind of answer but seeing just what happens when you do stuff. Am I reading too much into a video about crescent rolls, yes.

you are a mad woman. Glad to see you are still doing your thing. I watched you a lot, I don't know maybe, 8 years ago... I fell away... I am sorry. Despite that, I am very sad we didn't know each other despite being close to the same age and growing up practically neighbors. Keep doing great videos and wish the best for you.

Literally my childhood I watched your videos on khan academy and then I stopped using it so I always remembered them and tried to find them and 10 years later I have found them. Wow.
