My final project to film regular loco haulage on the network in the 1990's, along the North Wales Coast from Crewe to Holyhead.
Each installment is approx 3 hours long and was available on VHS in the 1990s, filmed on a Pro Hi8 Sony EVW 300p camera, although state of the art at the time this now struggles to hold up on todays large HD televisions.

What a great time, loved the 1980s and 90s! This region was one of the last in the UK to feature regular loco-hauled trains, lasting into the early 2000s (although I know some lines near the Norfolk Broads saw some as recently as 2018-19!) BR had tried to replace some trains along the North Wales Line with Pacers and Sprinters, but that didn't work out so well at the time, so Class 37s ruled this stretch, along with occasional Class 47s and even a rare HST. Brings back a lot of memories seeing the Class 37 workhorses regularly chugging along the coast! I don't think we appreciated what we had back then! I used to love watching trains (and still do!) when I am in North Wales near Abergele & Pensarn - doesn't seem like that long ago but we're not far off 20 years since the last Class 37s were diagrammed here! It's mostly the domain of Class 175s now and not much in the way of variation.

Nice one, I ended up visiting this line a lot after the loco hauled finished on the Waterloo - Exeter and I was working form British Rail / Southwest Trains had a set of Boxes and 75% discount so the coast was a regular along with Tractors on the Fort Bill sleeper. Another interesting period caught for posterity as an Historic record of early TOC's and BR stock. cheers.

I took the train from London to Holyhead in the summer of '99. I especially enjoyed the train from Crewe to Holyhead, very scenic and just a few cars for that train. Then I took the ferry to Dublin which was fun.

Interesting variation of coaches on some services, MK2 with MK1, Regional Railways with BR Chocolate and Cream.

yes 1 year i think tyhey hired a set in from a heritage operator

@@thehogfat Yes, they hired the MK1 from Cranmore on the East Somerset Railway, would have perhaps made a better idea to keep the rake together, would have made a unique selling point for the services of all chocolate and cream coaches.
