Crich Tramway Village Glasgow 50 Enthusiast Weekend

Fifty years have past since the last tram run in Glasgow. This was the theme of the Crich Tramway Village Enthusiast Weekend held on 15th and 16th September 2012.
After the Launch of Glasgow 1068 she took her place in service with Glasgow 22, 812 and 1282. The Glasgow cars were in service along with Leeds 180,Leeds 345, Leeds 399, Blackpool & Fleetwood 2,Blackpool 40, Blackpool166, Chesterfield 7 and Johannesburg 60.with Glasgow 1115 in the Depot.
The Glasgow trams would operate again on the Sunday with a different selection of trams from The Tramway Village collection.

I used to go on the number 9 Glasgow tram as I child,I loved it.

Lovely video, a perfect day to film. Sadly I could not attend this event, but your video more than makes up for it! 1068 looks stunning in Glasgow livery and some lovely shots of all the glasgow trams lined up in the shed yard. Particularly liked the two street scenes from 23:40 onwards - very authentic scenes with the street furniture and 60's cars. Excellent video and thanks for uploading - Hayden

fascinating stuff. Those old trams had a very dignified feel to them, didn' they. Rather like ocean liners.

Thanks Mark, I had been looking forward to this event and I wasn't disappointed. The guys at the Tramway Village had the Trams looking perfect, I even got good weather. What more could I have asked for ?

When I visited in 2014, I was disappointed to find Paisley 68 running in what I thought was a Faux Glasgow livery. This video explains why, but while this dressing up might be OK for a special event, it is inappropriate to have the memory of the P&D wiped out in the interest of "standardisation"! I was born within sight and sound of the P&D mainline to Speirsbridge and my Grandmother worked for them about the time No68 was new!

Interesting they run with the pole the wrong way, In Melbourne, I have seen a pole get bent when it hits a frog. I think it’s designed to make the pole the weakest point rather than bring down the overhead wire. Tram drivers in Melbourne are trained to climb onto the roof to work out certain problems with the pole, how is this done on a double decker tram which looks high off the ground and reduced clearance under the wire?

To the best of my knowledge they only run pole forward on exit/entrance or within the Depot.
