Hi! I am the Target consumer that walked in, and said "hey I'm going to craft, I'm going to start with the joy!" and honestly, I am so glad I did! So yes, this my first machine, but with the limited space in my house and the kids in my house, its a perfect first machine for me! I have made so many great and large projects I didn't think I could make. I don't always buy the joy vinyl. I have a cutter and cut regular cricut vinyl to the size I need and use the mats. If I upgrade, I will go straight to the Maker, but I am loving this little guy so much!

I love your honest opinion is so appreciated. I am ordering the Joy for two reasons. I want to travel with it and to have at work for that unexpected need for a card. Say like for the new co-worker that you didn’t know just lost her fur baby, or a birthday, or a promotion. I think this would be so handy in that regard. Now, do I need this? No as much as I need air to breath or shelter from the heat and cold. But this is something that I truly think will allow me the ability to spread some “Joy” at the last minute. And to have something to do while visiting the “In laws”.... Just kidding, I like my in laws. Happy crafting.

This is my favorite line: “you will have to be able to connect this via Bluetooth, if that scares you I think that’ll be a great little task for you to overcome” I love love love that attitude! Don’t let the unknown turn you away from something that you’re interested in trying!

I can totally see how for crafters, this potentially could be a let down. But for a small business owner like myself, this is seriously a dream. I never wanted or bought a cricut until I saw the joy. The capability to take this with me to different events/farmers markets and cut out personalized stickers of my logo right at the market for different products is a game changer. Maybe not for the advanced crafter, but definitely exciting for the business owner.

This is truly one of the better Cricut review/informative videos. Wish I found your videos before watching *too many* other ones that seem like they're robotically trying to sell me a good product, but you're looking out for what's best for each person. Love that. @@annalisamarie24 heey! I went ahead for the middle one - Explore Air 2 in Sunflower Yellow. The Maker cuts thick materials and big projects, so I might not use it enough to do it justice. The various blades and housings are a bit expensive for Maker too, I feel like you've got to be a bit more advanced to use it. The additional tools for Explore 2 are reasonably priced, I got the light, standard and strong grip mats to get me started, 1 replacement blade and scorching tool. Feels like a full set and I got this all for £300 in the UK! Another great thing is that none of these machines lose market value, they are the leading brand in crafts so definetly worth it 😍

I have the air2 and I ordered the Joy on hsn yesterday. I craft when I go away. I also craft with my granddaughter. Having the Joy will be nice as it is so portable. I never have taken my Air2 on vacation or a crop. Happy crafting!!

I saw the Maker at Michaels today for $349.00! I paid full price last year. The Joy is perfect for traveling from Florida to Massachusetts to visit granddaughters so I’m excited to receive later this week. Wonderful comparison video, thanks!💕💕💕

I have the Circuit Explore, I like the Joy because it’s compact. Residing in a apartment with limited space I don’t have to pullout the explore for a simple project. Also I can take it to work, over friends houses, and girls night out creating wine glasses and cards etc. Also great for children starting out crafting... I do feel some of the accessories are very pricy, I will say I will be purchasing a very good paper cutter. Thank you so much for the review....

I'm from the UK. I decided to go for the cricut joy, I make resin coasters etc and was looking for a machine that I could make vinyl names etc so this seemed the best choice for me as a beginner. LOVE your straight forward presentation. The issues you pointed out are the reason I made the decision to get the HSN Bundle. More samples of the new mediums PLUS tools, pens, etc. I'm am EXPRESSION owner who wants to "dip my toe" into the upgraded software features that the JOY offers. I'm fortunate to have been able to successfully cut most materials & look forward to cutting the regular vinyls in a different configuration with the JOY!

Thank you for the best Joy informational video out there. You have helped me decide that I will stick with my Maker. I am intrigued by the Joy but the material costs are higher than expected and I really don't have a luxury budget. The only thing that was appealing to me was the card feature but I bet Cricut will come out with the same thing for the other machines eventually. I am primarily a paper crafter and while the cards would be great for when you need a card super fast they aren't particularly creative and I like to make each card an INDIVIDUAL work of "art" rather than something that looks mass produced. Thanks for taking the time to present an honest review.

I was seriously thinking of getting the Joy but after I compared them to the Explorer 2 (honestly didn’t know about the Circuit Maker until after). After comparing the two & the prices, I decided to get the Explorer 2 bc the Joy was like $180 & decided to spend the extra $60-$80 and get the full size.... I’m SO SO SO glad I did!

Thanks for your honest opinion - wish I had seen it before I asked for the Joy for Christmas. Although - I do LOVE it! The machine is great - But you are dead on about pricing. I figured that one out pretty quickly! Already have decided to go with using regular cricut vinyl & other options instead of the 'smart' products, otherwise becomes WAY too expensive (feels a bit like a cash-grab on their part).

I was on the fence about the Cricut Joy until I downloaded the Cricut app last night and I saw a Joy pattern that says that it can not only cut the template but the fabric as well (Simplified Face Mask). Do the blades go dull after a while? Would you recommend keeping a spare blade handy?

Yes, the blade will become dull. Always keep a few replacement blades on hand :)

I love my Joy, I wanted to be able to make cards and smaller vinyl labels for my personal use. I haven't seen any larger projects that I've wanted to make. I do NOT like the smart vinyl, I find it harder to peel from the backing. I much prefer regular vinyl with a mat, I did also buy the longer Joy mat as well

I have the Joy and it is handy and if you use the little mat that comes with it, you can just buy the Orcal 651 and cut it to the little mat size and you do not need to use the Smart roll, which is so expensive. The Smart vinyl is great if you want to cut a continuous cut. I do like being able to do that.

I’m crafty, I sew and draw and paint but I don’t do a lot of paper crafts. I’d love to be able to make iron on things for my sewing and to make stickers. I’m currently a student and I take very meticulous notes and records of my completed course materials. I also organize these things. I am a sucker for labels. At my first university the craft room had a Cricut and I can’t describe how horribly disappointed I was by it. It must have been very old because it’s nothing like what I’m seeing now. It had these cassette inserts but you couldn’t create anything yourself, you could only seem to use what was on the cassettes. It cut poorly and ripped the paper, there was no way to get it to measure the materials and if you didn’t nail it the first time then you might have only half the design cut out and the other half was somewhere in the middle of the mat where there wasn’t any paper. It was so frustrating. Despite how simple the joy seems in these videos I’m still afraid that it’s going to be as bad as my last Cricut experience. I’m also wondering if it’s something that is worth it’s price for the things I would use it for. Please advise.

hello. We recommend if you're wanting to get the Cricut Joy, to spend a few extra bucks and at least get the Cricut Explore Air 2: amzn.to/2VxAOos ! With the Joy you would be limited greatly in the size you can cut, and the amount of materials you're able to cut. We only recommend the Joy as a secondary machine to a bigger better Cricut model, and/of if you travel a ton and need the small machine :) Also, this machine is very easy to learn and create with. I was pretty determined that I could get by with the Joy because I am a beginner, but it seems like the supplies cost more. So I might as well spend more upfront with the Explore Air 2 than to keep having to buy supplies that are more expensive. Plus, I'll have more capabilities with the Explore Air 2. Thanks!

This is an extremely useful and informative video - so thanks for that. I am a crafter and use a completely different brand of digital cutter, but the launch of this interested me enought to consider dipping my toe in to the Cricut brand. Listening to your review and looking at the range of comments, I imagine this being more of interest from those who already own one of the larger machines and want something portable. I'm rather amazed at the price points of some of the materials and I do wonder that this will put a lot of people off it, especially those on tight budgets. Its a shame really, but I guess over time and depending on how well this sells, those prices may fall. It's a good point to look at offers with some sort of bundle. Anyway, I love your style of delivery and look forward to seeing how you get on with this and what you think once you've tried it out for a while.

This machine is mostly for those who have a Cricut but were looking for portability :) We LOVE our Cricut Maker, and if you ever consider going into the Cricut brand, the machine will not disappoint. I also think there is a small space benefit. I love to craft, but can't have large items in my tiny apartment. I can fit all my joy supplies and the machine in a tiny basket.

While we do understand the need for a smaller machine, you are very limited with what you can cut with the Cricut Joy. Both with size of cut and materials it can cut. We recommend if you're wanting to get the Cricut Joy, to spend a few extra bucks and at least get the Cricut Explore Air 2! If you do not have a Cricut, we highly suggest paying a few dollars more to get the Explore Air 2, a bigger machine that can cut many more materials at a larger scale :)

For anyone that’s scrolling down to find an answer for making stickers in the Joy, you can’t use the Print then Cut feature. You can only make vinyl decals. I’d suggest to email Cricut to customize and add a Print then Cut for the Joy.

I think the joy is good for people who are only doing small paper/vinyl crafts, and for people who want to travel to conventions and need a cutter for on-the-spot, small orders. I initially bought the joy to make nail stickers, but found a maker on OfferUp for an unbeatable price and bought it. I like the joy because it’s super duper fast, but now that I have the maker, I don’t think I need the joy anymore.

I recently bought the joy because i have the OG cricut which cannot be used with design space and i needed to make name labels on vinyl and htv smaller than 1" high 🤷 and so far i love it!!

I was thinking of getting this for my 11 year old niece. She loves crafting and I like the size and how much more simple it is then other models. She has a "slime business" and makes labels for her slime. Do you think I should get this one for a first timer that's so young or just go with the explore air 2?

Great question. While it is smaller and easy to use, I cannot argue that it is any easier than the Explore Air 2. The air 2 is a fantastic machine that can cut much more than the Joy and it's only a few bucks more! I think your niece will enjoy learning how to use it and the software and with a larger machine like the air 2 she will be less limited with what she can make if she falls in love with the Cricut :) I hope this helps!

You could use the joy paper with sticky back to scrapbook. You would not need to use glue or two way tape. You’d save a little on that. Although it sure is expensive.

Wonderful video and thank you for this. I have 4 questions for you. 1. What type of project would you use the adhesive backed product for? 2. Can you use ONLY the Smart Vinyl? I am an embroiderer and want to use the sewing vinyl (marine type) to make key fobs. 3. Would the Joy be good for making the key fobs? 4. What is transfer tape used for? I did have a Cricut Explore Air II but just wasn't happy with it.

The adhesive vinyl is for a vast majority of projects. car decals, signs, wall stickers, decals on mugs, anything you want to stick it to! The joy is not the best machine for that. Your Explore Air 2 is a great machine. If you're looking to cut fabric, you'll need the Cricut Maker with it's adaptive Tool System and the Rotary Blade.

I just got the joy yesterday I wanted the air however all our stores here (big island hawaii) was totally out so i went ahead and got the joy for now. new to cricut myself. hopefully I can upgrade sooner than later with the air at least i can learn the system with it lol.

The size was my clincher. Then the card making was my justification. I’m lazy and didn’t want to do any tedious cutting. I figured I was limiting myself to everything Joy, but I was OK with that. Wait for the sales and prices with likely come down since it is a bit pricey in comparison to the other machines. Great review, thank you!

Great and honest review. I looked into the Joy but fellow crafters advised just to go for the full sized machine. So I went for the Maker and am loving it (that’s when I discovered your lovely channel!). I may get the Joy one day for taking to craft group though

Great information.... Thanks! I am NOT a crafter and not going to start now. HOWEVER, I am a BAKER and I often need stencils for my stencil holder for my customized French Macarons. I feel the Cricut Joy will fit the bill perfectly since the stencil frame is only 4.5 " x 4.5" Now just figuring out the best material to use for the stencil!!!

You need to get a Cricut Explore Air 2, at least. With that machine, you can create reusable stencils for your macarons :) With the Joy, you cannot cut the necessary material. Just want to add....cricut joy vinyl does infact work with the explorer Air 2....just have to use the 12x12 or 12x24 Matt's.....I tried it and worked fine like all other vinyl.

Yay! We do love the Joy, however, unless you're really stretched for space or you plan on traveling with it a lot, if you pay a bit more money, you can get the Cricut Explore Air 2 which is a bigger machine that can cut larger and many more materials than the Joy :)

Cricut must not be very excited about it because I've not seen or heard one ad about it. In fact, you are only the second KZfaqr Crafter who has even mentioned it let alone review it. So, THANK YOU for posting...didn't even know what it was. I think I agree, for a little more money I would keep my Explore and when it's time to upgrade, the Maker will be the way to go.

I guess there are no scrapbookers here, but for scrapbookers who go to crops the Joy would be great for that. Lugging a big machine is a pain. I own multiple larger cutters including an explore and I never pull them out for cards or a layout because it’s almost overkill...too big, too much of a hassle unless I’m doing a production work or something big. I’m hoping the Joy gets me using my cricut files again in my everyday crafting. It’s nice and compact and I can leave it out on my desk.

I would take one of the regular mats and cut it to 4.5 x 6. I purchased the machine because I had a gift card so paid less out of pocket sort of speak. I saw one of the other youtubers and they were able to cut regular vinyl cut to the size of the machine and it cut just fine. I don't know why they call it smart vinyl. The sheet does not have a bar code and the machine is not a scanner. They only thing I like is the card mat. What they should of done was add that card mat to the maker.
