That's societal, not psychological. Decades of marketing and human evolution has told us what is considered male and female and I for one want it to stay that way, as do most people. Women like wearing dresses, makeup and high heels and men like wearing boxes, having facial hair and drinking beer and whiskey.

@@TheUrbanEpicure the first part? I mean it affected him badly.. if he feels so pressured by the world to avoid anything even slightly feminine, he’s not only gonna miss out on things he might enjoy, like cosmopolitans, but the freedom choice. Think about the damage that does to your mental health for example. I’ve seen many people who are obviously struggling avoid therapy because they think it’ll make them look soft or weak. Some people even don’t go to the hospital when they need to, when they get hurt outside for example, and end up with nasty, untreated infections. It’s a real and damaging problem

Jon Doe the video was mocking men that put on a front of being masculine but aren’t comfortable enough with themselves or confident enough to drink a “girly drink” or like a certain color because they’re scared that strangers will perceive them as being feminine. This is not an example of straw manning or mike trying to fit in, its a comedy video. Lighten up.
@dujjo20
@dujjo20 5 жыл бұрын
I think alot of men are missing the point of the video. If you are a masculine man who isn't at all interested in anything feminine in the slightest this video is not for you. It's not telling you to put down your beer and buy an electric car. This video is for the men who want to, or never let themselves because of internal biases, do traditionally feminine things but dont for fear being seen as weak, or not secure in their role as a man. Its saying if you want to do something do it, regardless of how people may view you

@davidbritt5020
@davidbritt5020 4 жыл бұрын
@@jermainekngdom3154 More accurately, it's pointing out marketing campaign in generals that exploit many men's considerable fear of being seen as girly or feminine. They use their desire to seem masculine to others as a way to sell products to reinforce that feeling. However, this is a very toxic way of living. For one, you'll miss out in life on things you might have enjoyed had you not avoided it. Furthermore, it's degrading to women, as you're implying things that are feminine are somehow terrible or that men shouldn't be seen with the things women use or enjoy. It's not a good mindset. If no feminine things appeal to you, that's okay, but as intrusive as societal indoctrination gets, every man needs to look deep inside and frequently ask themselves exactly why they think they won't like something or why they feel uncomfortable with certain colors, and ask themselves, is it personal preference, or something deeper. And it isn't just the manly outdoorsmen who need to ask themselves these questions. even the most average guy there is is affected by this societal pressure, while they may not be drinking whiskey or hunting deer, they still have their decisions, preferences and likes altered. I am not immune, and neither is anyone else. Also, Women deal with this too, in different manners, but we're talking in the context of men, so I'm not mentioning it.

"Anger is an emotion" is actually a super important line. Why is it that women are considered to be more emotional than men? But we all do at the end. We are unavoidable a species living in a community with other humans, depending on social interactions. Of course you can get to a point where you ignore most of the things around you, but not carrying about anything at all is an illusion I would say. And as Leonardo already mentioned: manly is a very vague description of a bunch of things changing from society to society. Ask yourself: what is manly? Consuming every day at least 1 kg of beef while drinking a liter of beer and watching a football match? Not showing emotions (especially crying)? Not going to the doctor when you actually feel bad? If you ask me we should just get over this useless stereotypes...

@Leonard Wolf Yikes homie. Yeah of course that would be the ideal goal, and I hope people do that, but it would be pretty ignorant to not see that reality plays a different game. Societal pressure impacts everyone, no matter who you are. You can act as cool and independent of public opinion but even if you stick to just friends and family, chances are one of them made and formed opinions by society. So how can you really say their opinions aren't reflective of a bigger picture? I was just saying that it takes a movement to change society to be better.

I know guys who won't even listen to female singers. They only listen to hardcore rap and hard rock (and only male artists, of course) and anything that's remotely soft or gentle they see as "weak" or "gay." I'm a straight male myself, but I also listen to smooth jazz, soft rock, R&B, etc., and they laugh at me for it. Sad really.

Masculine acts and things are just superficial constructs. Real masculinity is about taking responsibility, protecting what you love, standing for for your principles and doing your duty to the world. It's about internal virtues. To all the men out there tryna snag a lady, I’ll give you some advice. Women love men who are vulnerable and honest about their opinions even when it goes against society’s values. We too, love to care for and cuddle up to our partners when they feel a little lonely or just want a hug. It’s quite LITERALLY part of our nature. You don’t have to be tough all the time and you can like what you like without having to feel judged. If someone in your life says otherwise, they don’t deserve you.

Guys obsessed with manliness always confused me I always was like "dude chill. I know I'm a man and got nothing to prove. But you try so damn hard to be manly like you got something to hide. Stop worrying and just enjoy your life." This man was a real man cause he had the courage to admit that! You go be manly and stuff by living your best life instead of fear crippling you and forcing you live a life devoid of your emotions....Besides more recent studies show men are actually more emotional than women so yeah it's healthier to admit your emotions instead of hiding them
