Thanks to the effort of Cristian family, in the person of the brother Simone, the father Silvio, the wife Sopis, the sister in law Maurizia, the daughter Angela and the nephew Attila, the native city of Cristian named a park after him, and the family donated the statue unveiled in the video.
Here are the words of Simone Daghio:
"The lamp that burns brightest in the room is the one that is destined to burn out first, but all those present will remember just how beautiful its light was during its heyday."
So was my brother. When he walked into a room, the room lit up, bright. He influenced people simply by his presence, as Alexander the Great is described in the book "Alexandros", from which I took this phrase.
Anyone who has known Cristian, has lived with him even only short moments, has certainly realised how impressive his presence and his charisma were. And the thing that always struck people the most was the size of his heart. He did things that will go down in history. He has helped people who will remember him for many years to come. He left an indelible mark on people's lives. And above all, he continues to be an inspiration for the next generations: no matter where you come from, how little you have, and the suffering you have been through. Take your heart and your dreams in hand, face every challenge that life throws your head up, and obstacles will become opportunities.
Now stop for a moment. Look around you. What do you see beyond the people next to you? Fields, emptiness, nothing. A small village lost in the Modenese countryside. And there in front of you, stands a work of art, majestic in its beauty, which stands out among the greyness all around, here to witness a person who every single day has lived exactly as he wanted and who has created himself a life dictated by its rhythms and its values.
Sure, he was a fighter, he won many belts and was world champion several times. But the real importance of him was behind the scenes. It was that unexpected message you were getting from him. It was that supporting phrase in a difficult situation. It was the support you got in the gym. It was his determination that inspired you. It was observing a person driven by a burning passion. The passion to leave a mark on history and on people's lives.
He gave, never expecting anything in return. He did it because helping those who asked for a hand was his nature. Boys who needed to find themselves and find their own way, stayed for months and even years in Thailand in his camp. Hosted as brothers, as children, he took care not only of their training but also of raising and mentoring them. He saw himself reflected in these guys and strongly believed that they were the ones who would make it, having the right support and environment. He grew lost little boys into men. He used to bring out the best in you, without expecting even a thank you in return.
He was an ego-less driver, capable of moving the masses, as is happening now, here, in Sant'Antonio, and online with the people who are following us in streaming.
In Thailand, he has been the first Italian to have a Muay Thai camp, and he was the guiding star for all those who wanted to pursue a career in this sport.
When he died, I lost a brother. And as the weeks went by, I realized that Cristian was the brother of all of us and that I recognize the same pain I feel in all those that Cristian has left a mark inside.
May this statue be a sign for the next generations: even if you were born in a small provincial town, if you do not have great economic possibilities and do not study in the most prestigious schools, focus your mind, heart and spirit on your goals; let them be great and useful in creating a better world. In this way, you will have an impact on the life of those around you and you can change the world."
