Both Ronaldo and Messi are magic, Messi creates something out of nothing for the team and they score or he scores. Ronaldo on the other hand is a prolific goal scorer, he scores when you don't think there's a possibility. When they played you would never count them out.

They have made a documentary of Ronaldo, how he does what he can do. It is fascinating, he scored a goal in pitch darkness. While it is true that Ronaldo is as good as he is through hard work, the talent had to be there to build up. Both Messi and Ronaldo are amazing footballers, I would watch either on a pitch, please don't make me choose

He can score with his left and right foot. He can score long range and at short range. He can score headers, he's good at taking free kicks and penalties. He can even score back foot goals. U should check 50 goals by cr7.

I understand there are always new fans in football and any other sport and there will be kids out there commenting stupid things because they are kids, but let me make some things clear and simple. Ronaldo is overall a SLIGHTLY better goalscorer than Messi, not because of his long shots, but because he is physically stronger and relentless and his style of scoring (primarily heading, and various other tools) is a bit more universal than Messi's who would often need a certain environment to work his magic (but when he does have the environment, as he has proved maaaany times before, he is the best goalscorer ever). This is where any kind of comparison stops because Ronaldo is only a good dribbler and a good passer of the ball, but incomparable to the best players in the world at those, let alone Messi who, not only scores at the rate of the best goalscorers ever, but is also arguably the greatest dribbler and the greatest playmaker of all time. This is not something that can be seen in clips of 5 minutes, but something you need to see in full games and deepily understand football to realize. How can one explain to someone who has never watched and played basketball why Lebron basketball IQ is insane when he does something that is not flashy and can be really appreciated only if you understand what you are watching? There is no debate between Messi and Ronaldo. Messi is so far beyond everyone in his era that it is quite unbelievable that he actually exists. He is like a living myth. Anyone who understand football says the same (players, ex-players, managers,..). Ronaldo's achievments and drive is admirable, but in football terms, he is not on the same planet as Messi.

@ayoo8782 First of all the quote was from Sir Alex Ferguson, who probably knows a thing or two about football, and football players. As far as the best teams Sporting was not the best team in Portugal. As far as ManU, when Ronaldo joined them they finished in the Premiere league 3rd twice and 2nd once. They then went on to win 3 in a row. When Ronaldo joined Real Madrid in 09, Barcelona was considered the top team in Spain, and in the world. That Barcelona team is also considered by many the greatest team ever. Real Madrid had not won the Champion league since 02. Starting in 2013/14 they went on to win it 4 out of 5 years. Ronaldo was definitely the ingredient to put both ManU and Real over the top. To “carry” 10 pieces of wood is a total blown out of proportion exaggeration, because you can be the greatest but if you’re playing with a bunch of slugs, you are not going to accomplish much as a team. Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t mention carrying a team, but what he was implying is that Ronaldo could adapt to any team and score. He said he wasn’t so sure Messi could do that. He believed that Messi’s strength came from being in the Barca system and that he was a product of that system. A great one at that. But he didn’t feel that Messi could adapt to other styles. ManU and Real did become the best teams after Ronaldo joined, though not immediately, and when they did become the best, Sir Alex said Ronaldo was the crowning jewel on top. To become the crowning jewel on top for both ManU and Real, that alone tells you what kind of player Ronaldo was.

That's just difference in style of play. Ronaldo has that flair playing style like the Brazilians but it doesn't look that great like brazilians. They can be ineffective. Messi to me is still very clear of Ronaldo, but for sure Ronaldo is extremely good. They're pretty equal in goal scoring capability, but Messis playmaking ability and football intelligence gives him a huge edge for me.

they are defo not close in goal scoring capabilities, Ronaldo has 20+ goals from 35+ yards, while messi only has 2 goals scored from 35+ yards, not only that but Ronaldo also is WAY better at finishing both close and long range weak foot and headers.

You can then say that Messi is a more efficient goal scorer etc. and is 2 years younger than Ronaldo, while doing just as well over all.

@@antiwokehuman But do you realise that Ronaldo is the Guinness world records holder for most career goals, and statistically speaking, the golden boot can be decided upon by how many games you start, how many hours you play per season and how far your team makes it in a competition, Messi is not going to get that Guiness world record for most career goals, you better believe that, Someone will one day do, but it will not be Lionel Messi.
