Great points and information. Thanks Mike! But I'm thinking that RVers discussing propane ON vs OFF when driving and what type of toilet paper to use is maybe best to avoid, just like politics and religion. 😅

I own a 2019 Wonder and I did ask the Leisure manufacture if could use propane while driving. They said no problem, but the refrigerator would probably switch to electric if you set it to auto mode. I personally shut off the propane tank while driving until I get to my destination. I also have a Gasstop propane valve on the tank which detects and stop propane leaks, highly recommended. Also none of the propane dealers mentioned not to use propane while driving or if it was illegal.

Check out the video from the National RV training academy. The bearded one believes that driving with the refrigerator on propane will cause uneven heating from the flame blowing around. This uneven heating will stress the components and reduce their life.

Washington state on a ferry is one with complex rules. Motorhome vs travel trailer , tanks vs “ built in unit “ so check there’s or you can’t board

When I cross the mountains in Colorado in February, the propane hot water has to be onto keep it freezing. When I cross Kanasa in August, the propane fridge has to be on to the food fresh. Yes, turn it off in the tunnel but otherwise it's on. Been doing this for 50 years.

As a Certified Safety Professional of over 30 years, Like everything else in life, it is possible to safely drive with Propane on and maintaining your frig if you follow good maintenance and safety practices. Like keeping your Propane alarm working. Having a newer rig with electronic ignition for the pilot light. Like considering the temperature and wind while driving. Propane is heavier than air. So traveling through low tunnels can cause propane to collect at the bottom. That is why they want your propane off in tunnels that go under water. But because propane is a gas, it quickly would dissipate in air. So driving along isn't any riskier than sitting in camp. And also, Every RV should have a Carbon Monoxide detector along with their smoke detector. And Carbon monoxide comes on very very slowly at levels below 200ppm. The usual residential exposures are around 50-75ppm and cause headaches and blurry vision after many hours/days. And the easy fix is to open a few windows and get fresh air in. Though CO leaves the body very slowly as it hangs onto your blood much harder than O2. It often takes days to clear out CO in someone suffering the symptoms. As a comparison, the catalytic convertor under your car can get to 500deg F if your running rich. That can easily ignite spilled gas or fumes at a gas pump. Also gasoline fumes run along the ground and can stay "Flammable" for many feet from their spill point. We toss around a gas nozzle like it is a garden hose, when that is much more likely to catch fire than a leaky propane tank. Try to light a small, portable hand held propane torch like you mike use for plumbing sweating. It won't light 10 inches from the nozzle. So out in the open, propane is diluted fairly rapidly. Dangers are with low areas that might hold and concentrate the fumes, like a manhole next to a Propane dispensing site. Have you ever noticed how much propane escapes when they refill your tanks. NFPA 58, LP-Gas Code Handbook (2024), The International Fuel Gas Code 2024, does not worry about RV's driving with the propane on. But it does discuss Propane Forklifts that drive through many warehouses and factories worldwide. ----Sorry--- Occupational Hazard of Trying to get people to understand--- It's not about fear and worry, its about science.

Compared to the danger of simply driving an RV on today's roads in traffic the additional threat posed by having your propane on is insignificant.
