He didn't mean to be, maybe he didn't even want to be, but in the course of destiny the man became a prophet of how shared imagination among the people can make a better world, without needing to own or limit what that world can become. That's a pretty good prophet...

Before minute 20:00 you can hear the audience member, Mathew, talking to a mic handler. He clearly has, at least, a speech impediment or, at worst, some kind metal handicap. When there is somebody like that they can be wicked uncomfortable talking to anyone in a public capacity and I think its awesome that this little twitch show has made a safe and welcoming atmosphere where people like Mathew can be openly themselves.

I'm only partway through the Q&A, but I am BLOWN AWAY about Matt describing how he improvised so much of the initial return to the fire plane, and city of brass. I'm creating random encounter tables for this weekend's game, and this is such a great reminder to not be afraid to go with the flow.

I drove down to Calgary from Edmonton to meet him. The convention seriously underestimated the crowd sizes he was going to draw. The convention doesn't have you pay for autographs as you step up to see the guests. It is part of the admission fee. But to control crowd sizes to see Matt, what they did is a couple hours before his appearance, they would give out free tickets at a specified location. If you don't get one, you don't get to get to meet him. The panel required no tickets. So each day of the convention (fri-sun), they gave out a limited amount of tickets. They were gone in under twenty minutes. The lineup on Saturday to get tickets had to have been over 200 people. When it came to the panel, people showed up 3 hours early (including me) and the line was already forming. The line got so long in the hall that they had to open the hall the panel was being held in an hour early just so the crowd wouldn't fill the hallway. I was told the hall seated 800. It exceeded that which is why there were some people standing up in the back. They played the first episode of critical role campaign 2 to keep the attendees entertained until Matt showed up.
@CriticalScope
@CriticalScope 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the reason they use signing tickets is to keep the load off of Matt. He had a very busy schedule and couldn't sign for any longer. Also, at other cons the lines were so bad he was signing for more than 8 hours. We know everyone is coming there to meet Matt and to get stuff signed, but sadly enough it's not reasonable to expect Matt to sign for 8 hours every day But I know your frustration tho

I also drove from Edmonton to Calgary for this! It was insane, we showed up for the Sunday autographs at 6:30AM and they were already at capacity. The girl said they hit capacity at like 4:30AM

fmacanadaguy I came from kamloops to see this and everything you said was spot on! Due to the disappointment of not meeting matt there was no way i was missing the panel so I did the exact same thing and also showed up 3 hours early. By pure luck my bf and I were moved to the front row to fit more people in which helped ease the disappointment pointed at OTA for the clusterfudge of a morning

Yeah. I was at the convention as well and made sure I came for the panel because I wanted to meet Matt even if it was from very far away. I got some pictures but they aren't very good. Sadly, the way the convention handled the Matt situation and something that happened to me at the panel still leaves a slight bad taste in my mouth. Anyways, I still enjoyed the convention as a whole and still remember it fondly. I hope you enjoyed the convention as well and that you have a great day.

Dear Matthew Mercer Literally anything you make EVER will be received positively by critters. We love you. You are a magical creature that we all wished we could be. You are the pinnacle of imagination and happiness that we wish we had in our lives. Please never change, unless it is to produce more magic and content for us critters. You are our mystical fantasy dad who fosters our ability to believe in ourselves and stand up for what we personally believe in or stand for. You and the players of Critical Role make us all believe that we can be more than what we are and that we are capable of making a positive change in our world. We love you most of all, and I hope you never forget it! I hope someday that you read this, because it is all true. Matthew Mercer is goals for us critters!!!!!

What he says about Railroading at the start is really helpful, and how my group did it. We started off doing campaigns that were pretty much a list of connected one shots, until we all got used to the rules and just playing the game, then we started doing more open ended campaigns. Just remember a motivational poster I have at my work (a high school) "The expert in anything was once a beginner."

I'm kicking myself for not finding this earlier. The question around the 22:06 mark and Matt's answer that follows would have helped my D&D group so much. We had a player who seemed like she didn't like the rest of the group and appeared like she didn't like me in particular. It seemed like everything she was trying to do was to stop my character in particular from having any in put at all (unless it meant a plan had a chance of failing and I would die that is) anyway I wish I had this to teach not only this player but also the DM about conflict resolution. Because I contacted the DM personally to discuss what was going on trying to hint at the idea that we should all sit down outside of playing and discuss this as I wasn't the only player seeing or experiencing these things we all were. The DM said he would talk to said player. But days after I spoke to him about this, I received a text bluntly telling me I had kicked this player out and that I was "vicious" for doing so. When in fact I had never done anything remotely like that and all of us were trying to avoid kicking out this player, instead attempting to sort things out as a group. And in case they get to read this I didn't and never want anyone to hate each other or point fingers, I just wish they could see that question and that answer and learn from it. Maybe if they had we would still be playing as a group together and finish it. 😞

Why does Otafest have multiple LED spots on-stage, aimed at the audience??? Are they deliberately trying to blowout the light sensors on cellphone videos to prevent people from privately recording video to upload to KZfaq?
