I fully understand Matt's pain with saying someone's name for the first time and immediately realizing he's made a mistake. I one panicked and introduced a dwarf as "It's nice to meet you, my name is Dwarf." His name was supposed to be Devon. After almost twenty minutes of them torturing me, they finally got me to just give in. So, yeah. There's now canonically a dwarven butcher named Dwarf in my setting :(

One of the gory details I really liked in ep.1 was the blood splatter inside the ice blasts. It would have been so easy to leave out but then you'd wonder if they were just frozen and might be fine - nope, everyone was clearly not fine

completely agree with that. They really managed to make all of the dragon's effects visually gory and impactful. My personal favorite is still Raishan and her breath weapon. Poison, in a meta aspect, is perhaps the weakest damage type in D&D. But in reality it is still poison gas on the scale of WW1 and people don't tend to be really resistant against that. Uriel's death was just... really great in how horrible it is.

Sam being able to talk to his kids about how the passage from life to death was not evil, but instead natural and lawful, is incredibly heartwarming. What a cool way to use DnD to teach those concepts to children! :00 Still judging him a little because DAMN a lot of people get cut in half 😂

Are we SURE Matt and Will aren't brothers? It's uncanny when they're sitting next to each other. Also that's really cool and sweet how Will still clearly vividly remembers the first time he witnessed Matt doing Victor at the table, and how much he loved it (and remembered Liam giving Matt a standing ovation at the end of the scene.

Well, Matt has played Tim Drake* while Will Friedle played Terry McGinnis, so of course they're brothers as the successors to Bruce Wayne's legacy... And now I just made myself sad at the realization that we'll never get to see Kevin Conroy featured on Critical Role in any capacity. *Funnily enough, Marisha previously played Stephanie Brown - Tim's main LI and the third Batgirl.

@@Leandro_Montibeler In the first season, his son plays the little boy who dies with the coin in his hand. And his daughter plays the little girl who gets hung on the Sun Tree. So far, all the little kid voices in the second season are Sam's kids. All the dying kids in the Chroma Conclave attack on Emon, the two orphan kids that Pike saves, and young Keyleth. Liam's daughter was in the first season too. She voiced the girl who told them that the monster (Brimscythe) flew.

I can imagine the meetings with Titmouse for the last episode of season 1 and first episode of season 2. Telling the animators all about what Emon is supposed to look like. They show the completed work to Matt and crew. And Matt’s like “cool. Now burn it all down”

I watched season 1 and was impressed by the quality. I went into season 2 and was BLOWN AWAY by the scale of the conflict. 3 episodes immediately hooking me is rare for a show these days.

Damn, I didn't think that season 1 could be topped but this first 3 eps were legitimately 10/10 and even knowing what happens I cried at the end of ep 3 I didn't cry back when it happened in the campaign but seeing animated hits totally different specially with the damn flashbacks.

Same. I watched most of the Briarwood arc, so I knew broadly what would happen in season 1. Then I picked back up and watched all the episodes with Taryon Darlington, which was pretty soon after this arc. But I'm loving seeing this unknown section.

Matt Mercer usually repurposes some of those things they skip into other ideas or such as in the second campaign when Taliesin took out an entire enemy ship in like a turn lol do you really think Marisha turning into a goldfish and hitting the side of a cliff planned on nearly dying in one single hit?

The destruction of Emon was amazing. I guess you get used to a couple quick scenes of destruction followed by a view from afar with a lot of fire. When they destroyed Emon, it just kept going... And the people dying, you felt the utter devastation. I watched and couldn't help but think, "Holy shit, this is epic!"

I remember Matt saying during the fundraising stream that he'd love to be able to do Gilmore bc he was so close to Matt's heart, so I was going in believing that whomever was ACTUALLY doing Gilmore in the show was 100% the right choice or he wouldnt have let it go.

I really like how they toned down the toilet jokes and excessive gore from Season 1. It makes for a more nuanced adult animation. When they’re used sparingly they’re more impactful and don’t take the focus away from the gravity of the situation. It also helps the with the pacing issue. The narrative flows much better when each episodes focused on fleshing out the story and character moments instead of showing audience how “adult” the series is. Based on these three episodes alone, S2 looks like it’s gonna be even better than S1 and I’m pumped!

I see what you mean now in retrospect. I think with season 1 they were just so excited that they even got to do it that they were trying to crack jokes to alleviate something, still having fun with the green light, but with season 2 the "real" lore begins and they are all nerds, so the the reverence starts to bubble up more.

@@Jackie_Tikki_Tavi Usually in any show they'll load up the early episodes with plenty of offensive things, if they're doing offensive things at all, that way nobody's shocked or surprised if it comes up down the road. Anybody who has a problem with it can stop watching early on and not waste a lot of time. But in the long run they don't really "need" it so often. For example, 90% of the nudity in Game of Thrones was from its first season.

I see some people saying that it's less good because it doesn't completely match the first campaign, but we always knew that they were going to change things. At its heart, it's the same story, and I'm so excited to see how they tell it this time- especially since the first season + first 3 episodes were so good!

I don't know if this will come true but want to call it here in case it happens: I think Zahra's necklace that she called attention to in the episode will be used in place of RAVEN'S SLUMBER (the pocket dimension amulet). The show tends to change how the team gets magical items to save time, and I believe Zahra will give Vox Machina her necklace in the next set of episodes

I just started learning about CritRole and D&D. I’ve known about the game for so long but never saw it played. I just watched some of the campaign on Geek & Saundry. What a ride! Now I can reference the Wil Weaton curse, a natural twenty roll and Grog’s beard, yay. Its such a privilege to learn about your worlds and the incredible talent of the voice actors and crew. I am looking forward to seeing more 😃
