Why is the fact that 90% of the prisoners in jail, many of them for murder, are not suitable material for calypso? If the ridicule and derision of the Indian community is justified by Dole Chadee, could not the 10,000 murders, (in the last 20 years) most of them black on black violence, also qualify for due ridicule? To make a case of clear moral superiority, or superiority of one community is much more than mocking in song and laughing at the putative target community. It should include statistics on both communities and an objective and honest consideration of the numbers, before assigning blame. Singing a calypso, with the vain hope that one community will accept guilt for car-jacking “without number”, thievery, home invasions, rapes, etc., etc., without the numbers, could hardly change a community if it feels no guilt, even when a calypso is employed to effect this. What about a calypso about the merits of the sterling character of Balcon or the ten men (all chaconia medal candidates) who murdered Vindra Naipaul? I know, there are no English words that could be made to rhyme, with such names as Vindra or Andrea Bharat. Those who encourage and applaud evil, will doubtless one day become its victims; if not then God is dead.
