FAQ's
-How many squares do I need for a baby blanket?
This can vary, it really can be however big or small you like, but i generally do 4x4 or 5x5.
-How many chains shall I do for a *single/double/etc' blanket?
Again, this can vary. I would suggest that you do your chain and lay it down agains the bed you are wanting it for. It should be the same width. You should then ad a few more to make it a little wider.
-How much yarn do I need?
Unfortunately, I will be able to answer individuals questions about how much yarn you would used do to multiple factors effecting it. Such as, your tension, the size of hook and the yarn being used.
-What camera do you use?
I use a Panasonic Lumix GF1 to film my videos on a tripod.
-What do you do for a living?
I am a Full Time content creator for my Blog and KZfaq.

I will say, that from experience, this works 95% of the time. I used this method primarily for years. Now, I'm a little more cautious about which yarns it's suited for. I made the mistake of using this to join 11 skeins when I made a cardigan, and it was a slippery yarn, similar to Caron Simply Soft. This knot being magical no longer held true, and upon finishing the entire piece I looked it over and began to notice the knots had started slipping loose. I learned to either not cut the ends so close to the knots and to dab them with Liquid Stitch, or to leave longer tails on the knots and weave them in. This absolutely works with stiffer yarns and natural fibers. It's especially useful for amigurumi, because there is no slack to permit the knots to work loose (even with slippery yarn)

Hi. I've just started using this technique for yarn joining and now I'm concerned. I am using Caron Simply Soft yarn on intermediate to advanced granny squares with about 5-7 colors per square. I came here searching for an answer to would this knot hold up to washing? Now, I'm wondering if its going to hold all my work with that yarn, use, and washing? PLEASE HELP!
@JeimiJamie
@JeimiJamie 2 жыл бұрын
@@teresaandrusz that, I can't tell you. I've been scared to wash my cardigan in a washer, and have only hand washed it. You could run a test wash. Make a Granny square (or whatever you like, or even a gauge swatch) using that yarn and make sure you cut and reattach so you have lots of knots. Then run it through the washer and dryer. Then at least you'll have an idea of how the ends stand up to a wash cycle

Great video. Outside of yarn, it is widely known as the "Fisherman's Knot" because it's small profile allows you to join fishing line without any excessive knot bulk causing noisy drag in the water. When I took up knitting, I brought it over to this hobby because of how perfect it is.

My "Granny" taught me this trick 66 years ago when she taught me to crochet, I've never had any trouble with the "ENDS" that I always hear other people complain about, in fact for a very long time I thought that those complaints were silly, then I joined a "crochet Club" and when I watched others struggling I was flabbergasted! Been teaching many others how to do this ever since. Thank you for the video that I can share with others! Keep up your good work.

Well my blanket is 90% done and I have 4 tied knots thick ones because I didn’t find this one in time. I’m using a sparkly thicker yarnspirations,but it’s definitely visible. I can’t cut it because 2 knots even came undone,so I did 4 ! Ouch. I did a beautiful job but the knots are eyes sores . I find this wool often comes apart easily as well but it’s so pretty. I’ve already cut them so now I’m stuck. I have at least 9 big tied thick knots I’m praying won’t loosen when I give this to baby / when washed . It’s not even like I can undo them, I untied the ones I could but I’ve put so much work into this I didn’t want to risk it .

Technically a fisherman’s ’bend’ as it is tying one line to another. (See: sheet bend, carrick bend, etc.) as opposed to a ‘knot’ where all the tying involves only one line. Sorry, I’m pedantic for a living. And sailors gave weird (but specific) names for things.

HOW DO I JOIN😂
@julieleng5589
@julieleng5589 5 жыл бұрын
This technique is so, so amazing!!! No more yarn tails!!! No more extra hours of sewing away yarn ends. I found a way to position the new yarn color right at the spot where I need it. This is how I do it: I make only half of the last stitch of the row of the current color and hold with my thumb and index fingers the spot where I need the new yarn to start. I then unravel a small portion of the knit or croched row and holding the marked spot with my two fingers, with my other hand I loop the current yarn OVER the new yarn, making sure to end the loop at the marked spot under my thumb and index fingers. Holding tightly at the marked spot, I pull to close the loop. When all is tight I let go and proceed to make the second knot anywhere, it doesnt matter where, since it will slide and lock at the position of the first knot, the place where the new yarn should start. I finish the other steps and cut off the yarn tails. I then go and finish crocheing or knitting the small part of the row I had unraveled and the new yarn will come in right where I need it to start for the next row... WITHOUT TAILS!!!! It is just so good!! The knot is small, very discreet, almost imperceptible, it blends right in, being also very strong and sturdy.

I honestly know and understand how to change colors and add yarn, but I've never been a fan of weaving ends. I figured I would try this method once, and I love it! Won't be my go to but it's nice to know how to do it when you simply don't feel like joining yarn when doing a particular stitch. Thanks for posting.😊

Does anyone know if the knots really don't unravel, or if certain materials do? I do this since it's so tiny (thanks btw, I love the technique), but I leave the tails and weave them in, because I'm scared it'll come undone after repeated washings.

If you use really slick thread, it will slip out. The way around it is to tie triple or quadruple overhand knots instead of single overhand knots. It’s how we join braided fishing line together. You can search the uni to uni knot to see how it’s done.
