Thank you for this video!! I received a lovely gift of some fine wool yarn from Iceland--but the pattern that it came with required circular knitting needles, and I do not knit. I tried modifying other tutorials and failed every time, but this tutorial gave me a wonderfully warm beanie I will be sure to wear for a long time!

Thank you Margaret. I love your videos. A while back I got a huge thing of what I think is sock yarn. It was at a thrift store. It's not a skein, its wrapped on a cone, and its really large. I didn't know what I would ever do with it. But it was$0.50, :-) I know, I just couldn't pass it up. It's multi colored. Now thanks to you I'm going to make your hat.... thanks again.

Wow! $.50! Just be sure to do your work in the round rather than joining at the end of every row. It keeps the integrity of the striping.

Thank you! I got some pretty sock yarn and haven't used any yet, so I appreciate the help and also the resources from your video description. :) I like how the article called it a "game of chicken" when uncertain about whether there's enough yarn for another row - been there and that's totally what it's like. lol!

Margaret Olander I wish I could send you a picture of it - I'm loving it so far. I started to do the sc around for the body of it and it's not yet forming sides but I'm sure it will. It was intended as a donation hat but I was working on it during breaks from a training class at work and it was claimed by the lead instructor for her daughter!

You CAN do it, Brittany! It's only yarn... if you don't like the way it looks, rip it out and try again! BTW, crochet thread and sock yarn are are 2 different things. I don't think this would work with crochet thread so make sure we're on the same page here!

Im using your guidelines to figure out a pattern for the thread, well more like the embrordery thread stuff, i think 8 avg sewing threads together, but its working! Ive had to do different increases to make it curve more fpr my skinny head haha so mines going: 1,2,3,5,9,17,19 and that's as far as ive gotten so far but im nearing being able to begin just sc til the band :D its so soft and lanky ♡♡♡

hi, i've a question about this part of the pattern: Rnd 1: 12 sc in a loop but don't join! by loop, do you mean a magic circle? and do i do a chain of 1?
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 2 жыл бұрын
You CAN use a magic loop but it's not necessary. Whatever you usually crochet into for making a circle is fine. And no... no chaining up when you do continuous rounds.
@dorna2325
@dorna2325 2 жыл бұрын
@@sheepishlysharing thanks! but when i start the ring, do i not chain to account for the height?
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 2 жыл бұрын
I don't ever use magic circle so do whatever you normally do! (Quite frankly, this is just a small issue that chaining or not will never be noticed one way or the other.) Here's the method I use: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJ92mdCkm7PGkYU.html

Love your videos. I like this hat, but have some questions about the written instructions. Rnd 6: 2 sc in the next 2 stitches; 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat. (48 stitches) This (to me) looks like your increasing 36 stitches instead of 12 (2 stitches in every stitch around). Shouldn't it be 1 sc in the next 2 stitches; 2 sc in the next stitch. Repeat. (48 stitches) Same for Rnds 8 and 10. I may be looking at it wrong.

You are EXACTLY right, Donald! Thank you! I'll fix that right away! And THIS is why we need proof readers and pattern testers. Glad you had my back!

How stiff is the hat before you stop increasing? I tend to crochet tight and my circle is up to 96 stitches (5" diameter) and seems stiff and I have more to go (hubby is 6'5"). Thank you Margaret!
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 9 жыл бұрын
Lynnette810 I would imagine the yarn you chose may also have an effect on that. Mine was floppy. (That Patons is stretchy and has nylon.) Remember that washing always softens things up.

Hi, i've a problem with the part where I don't increase anymore. I lost my stitch marker at the part where I just do single crochet around each stitch until it's long enough. what do you suggest I do? i was thinking maybe I should start over but I've come so far
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 2 жыл бұрын
Not a problem at all! Stitch markers are a necessity for the increasing portion. After that it’s really not necessary. Once your hat reaches your desired length, begin the ribbing from wherever you are.

Do you use that pattern for worsted weight too ? Thank ya kindly Ma'am for the tutorial xoxo
@sheepishlysharing
@sheepishlysharing 10 жыл бұрын
Yep. Works the same with worsted. You just won't have as many rows to do to reach your desired crown size because the yarn and hook are larger.

Well... this video tells you all about that. There's also a written pattern available (link in the description box) but... if you're new to hat making, watch this video first: Troubleshoot Crochet Hat Sizing | Common Mistakes: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mpqdo5mpxJu4XZ8.html THEN come back to this video for specific instruction on how these crown increases are made.
