WOW, I am so impressed by your video. I have been trying to figure out how to do this forever. I see all these photos of people who have made them but they don't bother to help other people. I am severely Adult ADHD, and reading any kind of pattern just doesn't happen for me. I was diagnosed with ADHD in my early 20's. So, I rely entirely on how to videos. Brad, I can't thank you enough for being patient with woman like me. Please tell the woman in the video that she also did an excellent job of teaching for beginners. Thank you again, Star

Thank you so much for your how to video .. this is new to me I know how to sew and I know how to crotchet now I can put the two together which will help me with other projects as well. The lady demonstrating is very easy to follow as she goes at a speed that will help a beginner to learn :)

Great tutorial! This will help me a lot! I must say, when the audio was slowed down the first time it scared the crud out of me. I was not expecting that. XD

@bradhneuman1230 I used two layers and it worked beautifully. I pinned the two layers together and then used the skip-stitch blade around the both fabrics and pressed a little harder on the skip-stitch blade to make sure it perforated both pieces. I also left the pins in place until I finished all the edging.

Yes, the "foundation" stitch makes a very nice edging on it own. I enjoy the simplicity of it.

I couldn't find the skip a stitch blade at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I did find one by June Tailor but it does holes too close together and it looked like it would not work either by how close the cuts would be when I did go look for it. So I got mad. Came home and made a decision to just get my clear ruler I had just bought, fold my fleece in half (trimming to be sure all sides were straight), and marked off every 1/2 inch and made a chalk line 1/2 inch in all the way around. Used my leather hole maker cutting a hole on the mark intersection, cutting through two layers. Got the job done and evenly in the amount of time I wasted looking for the darn blade. Almost finished with the blanket and it's nice and even all around. Yeah!

What did our ancestor sisters ever do without all these "time-saving" gadgets? I usually rely on the blanket stitch my grandmother (born 1892) taught me in order to hem garments and blankets. It's self locking and always looks nice.

Size G or H and a regular worsted weight yarn works great. We often use washable decorative and texture yarns for an interesting effect too. Good luck!

@SweetSavor -When using the alternate foundation stitch of two double crochets in each hole, the corners can be made by making three double crochets in the corner stitch. Similar to using the single crochet foundation, 3 stitches in the corner hole should make the turn and allow the material to lay flat. An alternative would be to do 2 double crochets two chains and two more double crochets in the same corner hole.

If 'you' don't want to spend the money on the gadget or can't find one, my suggestion is to use a large yarn needle to make the holes. Might help to use yarn as you do this and do a basting stitch, in order to see the holes.

It is an easy stitch. Simply insert the crochet stitch in the first stitch (last stitch) and pull the loop through and tie off.

I'd like to use this stitch around a child's fleece coat that I am making. The example I saw looks like a blanket stitch sewn by machine. Do you think it is possible to use the slip stitch blade and get a similar effect? Thanks.

+Jenny Lenh Jenny, I have the same question. I am in the middle of making a princess blanket for my new granddaughter. The blanket is loom knitted and then I crocheted the dress, ballet shoes, head with a cute face, hair, and arms and she will be holding an umbrella. They are all attach to the top of the blanket. Ultimately, what happens if you have a ton of yarn showing on the backside. So, I want to be able to cover it up by putting a warm fleece on the back side, and making it a warm blanket for travel because we get 3 to 4 feet of snow every winter. Do you think she will ever answer you? Good luck on your project.

I want to make my daughter a cranberry wool shawl, 80 x 26"s, with a crocheted border. The wool fabric is soft, not stiff, and I was wondering if the cutter would make holes in the wool. Also, would anyone have a border to recommend that would not look like it belongs on a baby blanket? She is 32 years old. Really appreciate anyone taking the time to reply.

The holes are 3/4" inches from the edge - so when crocheting, that extra fabric gets rolled by the stitches used. My take, at least.
