@@ClintsReptiles In the Argus monitor review you said a monitor that had a full adult size comparable to the juvenile Raptor was a great size for a pet monitor, so what monitors get that size as full grown adults? looking around most are either smaller or much larger.

@@Ushio01 Kimberly Rock monitors look about that size, maybe a bit bigger. I don't know too much about them though, other than that the lizard alone will probably be almost or over a thousand dollars. So still maybe not the perfect option.

I always recommend a croc monitor as a first pet reptile. Cute, cuddly, can be trained to crochet. The perfect reptile.

I want to note that Tom wasn’t bitten out of aggressive behavior on the lizard part. Two croc monitors were fighting and fearing for the other monitor life he tried to separate them and that’s when he was bitten but the monitor let go as soon as he was bitten it could have been worse if the monitor wanted to bite him in that case he prob would have lost his fingers

I had the good fortune of getting to interact with a truly incredible adult female crocodile monitor named Whisper. She was a rescue and quite old--and on a diet!--but she was incredibly smart, alert, and even sociable. Some of the people who worked with her were able to pick her up and hold her against the shoulder like you hold a small child, and she wouldn't display any defensive behavior at all! Not to mention that she would frequently come to the edge of her enclosure and watch what people around her were doing. She sadly passed away due to cancer after I'd known her for a year to a year-and-a-half, but she's an unforgettable animal. I know, objectively, that she had the capability to be very dangerous in an instant, but as far as I know she never made anyone feel threatened. Rest in peace Whisper. I'm so glad I got to know you.

It's happened to me a few times, too. He's gotten better about it. I'd love to eventually learn how to keep big reptiles, but you can be sure I'd be using a set of feeding tongs.

Gila aren't bad I'm fixing to be in the market for a gila. Croc monitor is a little more extreme but im very comfortable with monitors.

This is a monitor you will need to raise up from a hatchling just to lower the possibility of being in danger, and even then safety isn't guaranteed. I think I prefer the black throat monitor.

heck yeah! btw, did you know they are the 3rd largest lizard by mass? Komodo dragon average: 170lbs Asian water average: 90lbs Black throat average: 60lbs Crocodile monitor average: 35lbs

These videos educating why you shouldn't own particular animals outside of having an expertise are great. I've looked at pet websites for large lizards and such. You don't get a feel for the pro's and con's the same way as when you break it down. So yes, I enjoyed the King Cobra video (such a pretty snake) and this one immensely even though it may not be nearly as useful as the more practical pet videos.

Thank you for this Clint, I was seriously considering buying a pair of these (everywhere I looked sold them in pairs, including my local reptile “dealer” who’s a buddy of mine) but I couldn’t find any proper info on them, and after seeing this, I’ll give it a few more years. I figured that because of my experience with my other monitors (an Argus, blackthroat, and pair of Blue Tree monitors) I could handle at least one, but the way you broke this down made the answer clear. Love your videos and straightforward breakdown of these animals for dummies like me with money brains and soft thinky thinky parts, thanks for the content for people like me who consider these massive, exotic animals.

I really like how you use your grading scale for all the animals on your channel regardless of the validity as a "pet". Please keep doing this for all the animals ESPECIALLY the "crazy" ones. Me and the kids love the channel.

3:55 I actually had a late uncle who would raise orphan bear cubs & release them back into the wild once old enough. Apparently they where quite friendly towards him. There's also that Polish artillery regiment who adopted a bear cub. So... after you fulfil the meme & do "is the Komodo Dragon the best pet monster", maybe do a head-to-head between black & grizzly bears? Also, I'm once again asking you to do a video on the Boomslang.

I have seen croc monitors more than a few times in my life. Apparently there are still people that have them as pets (not me, but a guy I know). They are without a doubt the most beautiful monitors, but they are also terrifying.

After owning reptiles for a while, seeing that video you can tell. There is a quality to the kind of attention they are giving and the way they move. That is how I have avoided any of my snakes biting me since I was a very new keeper, careful watch of the body language and where their focus is. I'm happy you didn't get hurt there.

Very cool! Must have been awesome to get out and see Tom's place! I've been around one croc monitor...and I have a 5 ft Nile monitor (That's bitten me on the back of the neck, funny story ) and I was admittedly nervous around that croc monitor....those teeth!

Can you do hermit crabs? Like the land hermit crabs that are found in almost every pet store. They’re severely mistreated and too many people don’t know what goes into taking care of them, and I think it’d be an interesting video!

I have a working GSD and we train and work with several mastiffs over 150lbs as well, those are seriously intimidating creatures and I'm used to intense dogs and know how to behave around them but at least they've been purposely shaped for 25 or more millennia and are social mammals and omnivorous like we are! I wouldn't play around with one of these for any money, but I'd love to see them up close.

The croc-monitor lizard that Mr T. Crutchfield played with; is called Bernie. His smarter than most dogs and he's an apprentice of maths by being able to do basic calculus of subtraction and addition. When Bernie stared at Clint there; it was just calculating how many frozen chicks there were still in that recipient. The thing is that Bernie can count how many fingers one has, as well.

Even though the Komodo Dragons teeth looks less impressive, it’s purpose is different of that of the Croc Monitors which is to hold fast moving prey and tear it into pieces. Also the skulls of Komodos vary. Some Komodos have smaller teeth while others have more larger teeth. It depends on the age and size of the Komodo and what island it came from (ones from Komodo & Rinca island tend to have the biggest skulls and teeth compared to the ones on the 2 Gilis and Flores).

a croc monitor is probably more unreasonable than any venomous snake, but we all appreciated the video nonetheless. I hope you review every reptile/ aquatic species, no matter the unreasonability!

Basically the croc monitor is the cloest to a hardcore reptile,and Clint know it And I love it,cause these Monitor are so close to being an awesome,smort,and quite dangerous reptile to have as a pet,and Clint is a master at knowing how not to handle a reptile that will kill you,if you really don't know what your doing.

I just watched your video about rodent feeders and it made me curious about a pet rat. Particularly you were talking about the difference between a rat and a mouse and they're really quite different animals. Rats pretty smart and they're all so even trainable. Now I know you've talked about mammals before. Maybe you could talk about a pet rat but I understand if you don't because it's easier to feed him to reptiles if you don't see them as a pet.

Really great video as always ! I know it's a bit out of what you usually do, and that you did a head-to-head with kind of the same idea in mind a while back, but would love to see a vid dedicated to dogs on the channel ; it would really help to put into perspective how difficult it is to actually properly care for one, and how some reptiles could be a better choice in comparison ! When I was younger, my mom wouldn't let me have a snake because she thought it was gonna be a real hassle to care for, even though we had three dogs, but once in she saw how easy it was to take care of my corn snake, she completely changed her mind about it. I think it could be a really helpfull and interesting video ! Anyway, hope to see that Komodo dragon vid soon, still waiting for that sub 0.5/5 overall score

Mr. Clint, your videos are very helpful and informative, the video about ball python inspired me to get snakes when i move out from my parent’s home😃, and i just wanted to ask, would you be dedicating an entire video for green tree python? I am reading lots of blogs and watching lots of videos that say GTP is quite hard, and wanted to watch a content that is more analytical than emotional, thank you 😊

When you did the close-up on their claws and their feet that was freaking scary looking. That was a straight-up science-fiction monster movie kind of foot. Those Claws and those colors are just so intimidating
