After 23 years of having SSD on my left ear, finally went to the audiologist for the 2nd time and settled with Signia CROS system. It was definitely a weird sensation as I was so used to turning my head, and using my right ear but with CROS, I didn’t have to anymore. And my left ear is quite useless, it was 110db and the audiologist highly suspects that it is congenital.

@@Naeem2460 it is useful for certain events. I don’t use it all the time, but when I’m in an unfamiliar environment and want to listen a bit more better, then I’ll use it. If it’s hanging out with friends in a quieter setting, then I usually opt in not using it. To be honest, it sounds a lot like a mini microphone in your ears. Took me a while to get used to it, and because I’ve never really used my left ear before, it did overwhelm me at one point. If you can get one, I’d definitely recommend getting it, but if you feel like it’s not a priority, then it’s fine too:

@@ssideris Hi, question, I'm considering getting a CROS however It seems like my good ear will be plugged up, and i will be relying on the aids for 100% of my hearing, so it will all sound like a microphone,is that right?

@@deeplyfeminine865 yes, it sounds a bit static and like a mini speaker in your ear. of course, the first few weeks it’s a bit odd, and can get nauseating for some people but over time, I got used to it. I don’t use it when I’m at home, but at busy places and loud events, i’ll use it for my benefit.

I have loss of hearing in my left ear. Additional issue in my left ear is that sound that enters always sounds very distorted. With traditional hearing aids, all it did was amplify the distortion so I stopped wearing them. Would a CROS device cause similar issues or might it solve that problem? Any advice or recommendations is greatly appreciated. Thank you

I’m completely deaf in my right ear…being in a crowded area is so difficult just picking up what someone is saying to me it’s really frustrating…I’m just worried that if I go with Cros would that make my good ear at greater risk in being damaged if it receives more noise…would my ear get over worked?…I guess I would have to try it out to find out some of the other questions I have
@allisonaudiology
@allisonaudiology 2 жыл бұрын
We would recommend demonstrating a CROS set up to experience it. There would not (should not) be enough amplification to injure your better ear. But by experiencing it, you'll have an idea of how it sounds, feels, and what it is like in general. There are some great rechargeable CROS options out there now.

i was born completely deaf in my right ear, theres zero hearing in my right ear since the day i was born and sadly there physically is no treatment for my type of deafness because there is literally nothing in my right ear and id say im kind of lucky in the fact i was born this way instead of developing it over time because being born with it, its all ive ever known but people that develop deafness in one ear over time i could imagine that being very traumatic and scary

Good afternoon! When it comes to recommendations, we try to shy away from that online simply because we don't know the whole history or situation. However, from what you've shared, you may want to try a CROS device on your left ear and a traditional device in your right. This way it would give you first hand knowledge and you would be able to experience it. From the current CROS technology out there, we would recommend sticking with the Oticon option if you're looking for a rechargeable solution. We've found our patients get the most use/hours from the Oticon rechargeable CROS compared to other manufacturers that offer the rechargeable CROS option. When it comes to hearing and personal preferences, it's specific to the individual, so if you are curious about the CROS and what it would be like, we would recommend finding a local hearing provider you trust and scheduling a listening demonstration. Then you'll know for sure if it's an option you may want to pursue.

Hi Merlinda! The costs for the CROS devices can vary. Without knowing the prescription levels needed, we can't give specifics. But we say that right now, we are seeing the best rechargeable battery performance out of the Oticon CROS devices. And they are compatible with all Oticon levels of hearing aids, so that can certainly help with costs. As other manufacturers make updates to their CROS models, this may change, but for now it is holding true. We hope this helps!

I have a hearing condition called enlarged vestibular Aquaduct in my ear I’ve needed a personal hearing aid forever since 2015! 2011 I found out I had hearing loss but maybe had it my whole life because I always failed the test on my right side. My left is semi loss in hearing but almost perfect. Do you know if they make ones very small where no one sees it because I don’t want anyone to know at work I have hearing issues and I can still put earbuds or ear pieces in and has a volume adjuster?
@allisonaudiology
@allisonaudiology 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sophia, there are very small hearing aids you could try that fit deep in the ear. Without knowing your exact hearing prescription we cannot recommend a particular device for you. I wish we could be more specific and at least give examples. But we would recommend visiting an audiologist you trust and seek their recommendation based on your needs and what would be best for your preferences and goals.

I am SSD after a labyrinthectomy. My audiologist did not discuss this, but I have heard the device will beep to “inform you” which side the sounds are coming from. Is this correct? If so can you provide a little bit more information?
@allisonaudiology
@allisonaudiology 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rebecca! I would ask your audiologist if you can listen to a CROS set up so that you can experience how it sounds. It does not beep to show which side sounds are coming from since the CROS does not emit sounds. It does send the input wirelessly to the opposite side/hearing aid. Since it is different than a traditional device, I would recommend experiencing it for yourself and seeing what you think. Phonak has just come out with a new CROS for their Paradise hearing aid line and Oticon is also releasing their latest CROS as well. So there are some great options out there for CROS technology now.

Does the Cros device that is on the side with the hearing loss also send the sound into the middle/inner ear of that same side (as well as receiving and transmitting to the good side)? I'm assuming it does as it has an earpiece attached to it.
@allisonaudiology
@allisonaudiology 3 жыл бұрын
The Cros device itself sends a signal (wirelessly) to the device on the opposite ear. By design, it looks as if it would send sound into the ear canal, like a traditional hearing aid, but it does not. Sound comes into the microphones of the Cros and is then sent (wirelessly) to the matching hearing aid on the opposite ear. Once the signal is received by the hearing aid, that input goes into the ear canal. This design can be a bit tricky; we hope this helps! To best understand how it works, a listening demonstration would be a great option to fully experience the sound quality.

I am deaf at one ear (from birth on) and no-one ever gave me this option and now I am an adult. Just last week my new doc told me about this and like... I dont understand why I've never heard about it because it would be typical to use this! Now my ear that can hear got a hearingloss too... So is a Cros the same as the BiCros? (Sorry my english isn't the best)
@allisonaudiology
@allisonaudiology 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes - you are correct. With technology how it is now, the Cros and BiCros are essentially the same. Traditionally, a Cros system does not incorporate any amplification, but manufacturers are only offering traditional hearing devices for the 'better ear,' so today's systems are BiCros in nature. Today's technology has also come so far and many patients are surprised at how natural the sound is, even though they are hearing it from only one side. I hope you'll enjoy your new system! Dr. Austin

Hi maam i have problem.. i have hearing loss bec of antibiotics 2 years aqo . I can hear sounds and vibrate but words i cannot hear... I have hearing test last week im fitting hearing aid byt they same icannot hear words.. what hearing aid can i use so that i can hear words or speech?
@allisonaudiology
@allisonaudiology 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy! Thank you for reaching out. For the right type of hearing device for your specific needs, I would consult an audiologist you can trust to show you your options. There are times when hearing loss is severe, that words and speech are distorted, making it unintelligble, but environmental sounds can still be detected. Traditional hearing aids of varying power levels can be helpful with environmental sounds for awareness and safety. In some situations, a CROS device may be helpful if the hearing loss is only in one ear. Without knowing the specifics of your hearing loss though, I can't recommend what set up may be best. If you are questioning what is best for you and you have seen an audiologist, you may want to seek a second opinion. And of course, if you are in the Houston or Lake Jackson areas, our team would be happy to help as well.

@allisonaudiology Жыл бұрын
It would depend really on speech understanding. If speech is clear once it's amplified in the right ear, a single hearing aid could be beneficial. If it is not clear once amplified, a CROS system could be the way to go. If you have a hearing care provider, a demonstration of each can help you decide and experience the difference. Good luck on your journey to better hearing!
