I don't really know how to respond to those comments... LA didn't tear down skyscrapers. They were clearly inspired by NYC and Chicago in drawing those backgrounds. The tallest building in LA in the 50's was probably city hall, and only city hall.

Looks like he went all the way to southern arizona, crossed the state to near the coast in san Diego, went all the way up to San Francisco and took a turn to go back a bit into the center of the state where the sequoia NP lies. Instead of crossing through Nevada or Oregon.

So this cartoon was made shortly before the timber taxes between 1940 and 1960 were applied that caused the massive clear cutting of old redwoods to be preferable over more moderate timber clearing.
