Play it again sports has new skis, new boots and poles. Got my entire set up for $149.00. The went to ski shop to make sure it was sized properly and BAM . Ready to go ! The same skis at the ski shop were one tear newer and were $300.00 alone.

The part underneath the ski is referred to as seal skin because that is what they used to use back in the day apparently. but now it's referred to as synthetic seal skin

What you really need is snow! If it’s before January, and you are not in the Rockies, you had better go somewhere with snowmaking, or you may have none!

I want to ski in the park next to my place where no one ever goes. Do I need off-track ccskis? Or can I just use classic ones

Josh, great question. You do not need to have off-track specific skis. Any skis work and I will regularly use race skis on off-piste (ungroomed) snow regularly. Many recreation level skis are wider than race skis which will make skiing in deeper snow easier.

What is the maximum weight one should carry on one's back when x-country skiing?

I'm 190 lbs, if I add more than 10lbs it really messes with how my classic skis work. Skate skis don't mind as much. But it's not really a backpack sport.

This is more based on your comfort and strength to carry weight. As mentioned in another reply, if you add too much weight you will over flex your skis and your glide would be compromised. So, if you are planning on doing a lot of skiing/touring with a heavy pack you might purchase stiffer skis.

I’m going on a cross country ski school trip and the packing list says to bring like the heaviest jacket and the warmest pants you have for your outer layer and then this guy is wearing like a thin warmup jacket for his outer layer I just thought this was funny bc it shows how little the cold resistance is for people in New Mexico

Good info. Too Bad one has to order all the items at most of your stores!! This is kind of like Outside Mag giving pointers to XC despite ignoring it for the last 25 plus years.
