It's crazy how short the lifespan of this game was. One of the most unique Yu-Gi-Oh video games in a while... really failed to live up to the hype. I hope you all enjoy!

Fun fact: Hidden in the code for Cross Duel there are unused character IDs for more Sevens characters as well as Go Rush characters. So meaning that we will never see Yudius in Cross Duel

I don't think your assessment of the situation is that far off. I never played it either but it is unfortunate. But I very much love for them to focus on supporting the English Rush duel Switch game. Unfortunately they've shown that they don't care about it enough to promote or support it. It even has a GR sequel and still no announcements.

Cross Duel had the elements to be a good game, especially for us older fans who loved the Tag Force series. Sadly, like you said, all the glitches, being mobile-only and how money-hungry the game really hurt this game's potential.

I'd say it's because it's pretty much pay 2 win sadly. It's EXTREMELY rare to get good cards and it's a grind to get your cards to have multiple skill slots. It's a shame Cross Duel had so much potential this game is more fun than Master Duel

Personally, I found the core concept to be interesting and fun. How pay to win it was and how awful the pull rates were, especially when you needed multiples of cards to power them up, is really what killed the game. It completely killed player interest, including mine. Unless you could shell out large amounts of money to get the multiples of cards, you had no chance of competing against those that could, and you couldn't get very far in the raid events (if you could even find other human players). It also made the game boring because your card pool was totally up to luck and you couldn't try playing different strategies. The initial gacha pool didn't help either. It only had one card that could help you fight back if you were teamed up against and it was a super rare card. I think a pack system like Duel Links would have made the game much better. The bizarre release with no release date or info for well over a month also killed a lot of interest before it even released in a lot of the world. The game did offer some great art assets for player icons, so hopefully we see those again in the future, hopefully with full art!

Yep. I actually like Cross Duel. But I Left because it is horrendously money hungry. I ranked quite a bit and made at least one functional deck, but I never really optimized anything because without spending A LOT of cash that is impossible. That, and the completely random nature of pulls killed the entire thing for me.

That's a shame...I must admit, the only reason I downloaded it was for the dialogue for more animation ideas...But I too had a few problems with this game: It cost a bit of money, and I felt like that was the main source for powering up your monsters. And as I am fussy about what I spend my money on, I gave myself limits, which made powering up my monsters slower, and making the Events too hard. The other problem was how it was on my phone: It drained my battery power so quickly, I lasted one battle before my phone almost died. I had to end up playing whilst my phone was on charge, and it did very little. I also felt like the rules weren't exactly fair on how you could Unlock Characters, especially if you missed an Event.

I LOVE Cross Duel and put quite a fair bit of money into it. I was actually hoping to figure out how to stream it myself soon. This is surprising as yes it has a lot of flaws! Saw this coming but still hoped it would last a little bit longer. I encourage people to try it out before you can't forever. Rewards are going to be increased now. I really hope something similar takes it place but as mentioned we probably won't see anything experimental or risky for a while from Yugioh given how much this flopped for multiple reasons. I would love to talk to more people about Cross Duel as I have spent so much time with it.

I’ve never played Cross Duel as I was too committed to MD and DL but I liked the idea of it and utilising all the animes including the rush duels shows. I hope this getting pulled doesn’t justify Konami for solely focusing on DM nostalgia from now in both video games and the card game. Many grew up with Yugi as their first protagonist but what about those who’s first anime hero was Jaden, Yusei, Yuma, Yuya etc. I think they should think about the fans of the spin off shows and how they can truly produce a variety of products that can cater to all audiences from DM to the spin offs and even Rush Duel players. I don’t want them to be one sided in one corner of the fandom as it’s not necessarily good business sense to some extent.

They won't. In fact recently all of the anime's are getting some love. GX, just got the Speed Duel Box. 5Ds is getting both a new set in Duelist Nexus as well a Jack Atlas Structure Deck later this year. ZEXAL, just got some Galaxy-Eyes support in Photon Hypernova. ARC-V, has the powerful Superheavy Samurai support on the horizon that could return that archetype to meta contention. VRAINS, has Cyberstorm Access on the horizon, and Firewall Dragon support. And SEVENS content and characters might be on the verge of being added to Duel Links. -- Ironically its DM that hasn't gotten any attention recently from Konami (other than some Rex and Weevil support cards, that don't appear to do very much), although that will probably change sooner rather than later. As for GO RUSH, give it time, its not out in the West yet officially although when it does release in the West, I would expect that the GO RUSH Video Game will very much follow. (Given that its basically meant to be to RUSH DUEL, what Master Duel is to the main game)

I've played a bit of Cross Duel, which was easy since it released first in The Netherlands (Which surprised me), and to me seeing all these monsters and characters together was really, really cool. The UI elements depending on from which season the monster's from and whatnot. But as soon as I begun... I felt the P2W kinda hard already. The prices of packs was kinda high, and after using the Login bonuses there wasn't a lot to get, since even missions gave so little overall. Not only that, as from what I remember when I went through the tutorials, I messed up quite a few times. Especially pendulum was really odd alongside some other weird reworking of summoning mechanics. It felt like it needed some more time in the oven, but the concept is really cool. As for the English Rush Duel game... Konami barely marketed it in the first place and it also didn't release physically. Threw the passcodes our way (Which were long datamined already by that point.) and stopped caring. And no, fusions aren't in the base game. Not to mention that the AI sucks and gets stuck fairly easy or is REALLY slow, the overworld is absolutely barebones and the story is just a retelling of season 1 through the eyes of your own character instead of Yuga. (Small side rant: Monsters need to be summoned one-by-one, if there was a multi-summon option like they do in the anime by throwing multiple monsters down at once, that would speed up the game SO MUCH!) All in all... not a good game to spend your money on.

1. because instead of a global release, it came out in only a few countries. 2. very bad PR. 3. Exclusively a mobile game while other Yugioh games are multi-platform. 4.because those who are responsible for Yugioh in Konami, instead of following the financial model of the master duel, decided to squeeze more money out of this game as much as possible and simply strangled the project with microtransactions. 5. very rare updates. while a healthy half of konami is engaged in the revival of silent hill, some others still continue to cash in on games without noticing that the general course of the company has changed.

Cross Duel was a unique but ultimately flawed game, it's concept of facing off against three others in a free for all strategy game, where you can alter you monster's skills prior to the fight and only using one copy of a card in the deck could have opened up to unique styles of plays. But due to the lack of extra skills and how certain archtypes started to flood the game it just made the game unfun to play. There was a few other issues like you mentioned, but I feel with more time it could have turned things around. But making it a phone gatcha game was probably the wrong move. It should have been a smaller console released game, instead of having to pull duplicates of cards using a gatcha system, you should have done events like a story style mode to gain materials, to unlock skills and slots on monsters, as you progress through. As well as giving you the option to play smaller stories from each and every series for more cards and variety. If you want to have tournaments for online that's fine, but it should have a way to judge your skill level against similar people. I remember how with the lack of people, cross duel had you being in silver going against guys in Platinum because that was fair. Also you can add unique modes like tag matches with local and online multiplayer and small events to give off extra materials and ways to open slots too. Another thing that makes me wonder of the failure of this game, was actually the stigma that players have to Yu-Gi-Oh games that they don't precieve as "proper Yu-Gi-Oh" games. Minus the time in the mid 2000's when stuff like Capsule Monsters Coliseum and Duelist of the Roses came out, anything that had remotely been a spin off was considered not YGO. Which I have to laugh at slightly as the franchise started out about a young boy's alter ego challenging bad people to various 'games', and not just card games to right the wrongs of said person. Heck something so simple as Pop Up Pirate was seen in the original manga, it was always about games in general, hence the name Yu-Gi-Oh standing for King of Games! Not Game. GAMES! Hell the first YGO video game was a capsule monsters game with breeding elements like Digimon and Tamagotchi. So I don't think YGO has to solely be restricted to being a card game simulator by any stretch. Yeah I hear the replies now, "But you see YGO became popular because of the Duel Monsters game in the manga!" Very true, but it even the original stuff never turned it's back on the gaming origins. Duel Monsters last arc, the Millenium World arc is quite literally a giant table top RPG hosted by Bakura a tie in to the end of the original YGO manga, and something that Takashi was passionate about in general. So whilst YGO is popular because of the card game, I don't think everyone who has been following the series would deny the impact it was always meant to have. Even JWitz covered a YGO board game, that has the Duel Monsters in it, but it focuses on winning mini games against your opponent's to finish making the puzzle, simple games like Rock-Paper-Scissors and two others that I can't quite recall now. But he mentioned like I said it felt the most YGO it could have, due to it being a competition with multiple games included like what the story was always meant to be. It's really sad how much spin off games get hated on simply for not being about the card game, as soon as Cross Duel was seen as different, there was a lot of people even a month in saying the game was "Dead" solely because they didn't like the fact it wasn't a card game simulator like Master Duel. But it was never meant to be one. Similar to how come Digimon Survive got slack because it wasn't what people thought it was going to be, despite the fact the advertising stated what it was. It was ignored because people just want it to be what it has always been, not what was offered. So sadly Cross Duel never stood a chance but it also didn't help with the lack of steam releases and console exposure. The last point I would like to make is something brought up here with the Rush Duel game, no the game was never updated outside of Japan. In Japan there are fusions in the game, and new cards, but the English release sold so badly that Downloadable content tab in the game, might as well not exsist. It could have been successful, it is on the Switch currently the third best selling console of all time, and by far the best selling of this generation. But once again, it wasn't "proper YGO" so no one cared. And with the way people have been calling YGO complicated for years, kids who may like the more laid back Rush Duels of Sevens and Go Rush are put off by the amount of stigma the game has for being "too hard" for kids to understand. I have been playing YGO on and off for 20 years, and I have a hobby shop nearby where I live, and oh boy the amount of older people who I hear saying stuff like "I haven't played YGO in years I mean I don't know what Synchros are!" or something of that nature and also stuff like "Oh you need a PHD to understand YGO now!" If I was a young child hearing that I would be put of YGO for life, and stick to the very basic Pokemon TCG. So no wonder Dawn of the Battle Royale didn't sell, adults who know nothing about YGO didn't buy it for their kids because they keep hearing horror stories about it, and kids are put off by it, because they didn't understand that Rush Duels are a completely different thing. It's really sad as I personally really enjoy playing alternative ways to experiment with YGO, and I do know others of similar mindsets, sadly though the minority like us will miss out because of it. RIP Cross Duel it was a fun if not flawed time. Guess we best get used to card game simulator for many many years to come.

I really enjoyed this game, because from my brief experience it had such an unique experience compared to Master Duel and Duel Links. I agree with you in that I honestly see this game's failure as a bit of a worrying sign, because this game was so different from the primary TCG/OCG or the Speed Duel format used by DL, so we might not see further experiments. Especially because the newest addition to the YGO sphere, Rush Duels, had a small but notable presence alongside all these contemporary characters, but it was notably less than the other shows; pretty sure Sevens only had Yuga and Luke as characters.

I played Cross Duel every day for a month or two after it came out. I quit because of how stingy they were with gems. It felt way worse than Duel Links. In Duel Links I was able to make a couple competent decks in a little over a month. In that same amount of time in Cross Duel I could make one deck that didn't even have a theme or synergy it was just a bunch of good individual cards, and I almost had enough gems for another gacha pull. I thought some available decks were pretty cool and I wanted to build them like a level-3-or-lower deck because there was a lot of support for those kinds of cards, and they released Joeys cards with a common burn strategy. Unfortunatley I was never able to get enough gems to pull for these cards. As a result I'd play the same deck over, and over, and over again and it got boring.

I participated in the beta test back in 2021 and I really enjoyed playing. But its such a far cry from the actual TCG that I could see why most yugioh fans may be turned off by it. I never played after launch. No real reason i just was too involved in the other games or kinda just forgot it even existed. The game would be terrible for anyone who wants to get into the TCG that hasnt already, but I thought it could have been a good alternative for TCG players that wanted something similar but different at its core. Maybe it just wasnt the right format? I’m not sure. But like i said i can see why the game could have turned yugioh fans off

It’s a shame, really. I’ve been playing consistently for months now. I haven’t fully committed tho (like regularly playing Ranked and/or Raids). But, I’ve played every Event & unlocked all the characters. Thus being said I guess I looked at it more as a fun time distraction. But, as I said I played a lot. From the Discord server I can say that a huge issue was battery drain & glitching on the phone. So I definitely agree that it’s a shame they never gave it a chance on Steam. I think that would have definitely gained them much, much more audience. I have never had much of the issues tbh as I’m mostly playing it on the tablet (ipad 9) & it seems pretty compatible. But, I can say that before I switched to the tablet I was a lot less active. 😅 The game just feels like it was meant for bigger screens. When it comes to Pay to Win - agree & disagree. If you were consistent with the Events, the rewards would get u enough to build at least one strong, competitive deck. Especially since a month ago or so they’ve increased the login rewards. As for the deck building - if you never played you can’t have more than one same card, so you don’t really have to make tens of pulls to build a proper deck since it’s not that kind of a game play anyway. But, the prices for for ‘Gatcha’ are extremely high (1200 Gems for 10 packs). But, you had the opportunity to craft cards in exchange for duplicate cards, which even tho had higher criteria as well was still a nice touch. Overall I never played Rush before or anything similar to this, so It came as such a refreshing mode. I even paused on DL & MD. I love those, but as I said CD didn’t feel that competitive, it just seemed like a fun, new way for me to enjoy the Yu Gi Oh franchise. Even tho the Events felt quite repetitive you still had the opportunity to play for fun, enjoy some new mechanics & pretty cool design/graphics. With all that being said I encourage everyone to give it a go before they take it down. They announced that they will be increasing the login rewards again soon, so that should be nice! 😁

I enjoyed cross duel when it came out, and I was starting to get in to it and play it again. I enjoy the game and the characters you get who get to be your tag partner, but it’s just trying to get cards in the game. Sad that it’s going to get scrapped.

Something that wasn't noted either was performance issues. The game was slow and very unresponsive too. There was just also a lot of menus and the game took a bit to load. Not to mention how this game isn't on the pvp. Good players would pick one person to gang up on and it turns into 3v1. Otherwise it's petty actions one after another. It makes it really hard to actually play. Then the net coding not being good on top of that. Raid events alone had my own frustrations as it didn't feel like anyone could actually work together. The only benefit this game had was the small card pool. Making it easier to collect the cards... Until you need more copies to even power up cards. Which I get but the card pool needs to bee smaller for it to work. And with an expanding card pools. You need to give more cards. There is more I could say I think but this is about it. The game is fun solo wise, but is sad that they couldn't have expanded on the single player side more, and make it a rewarding single player experience with a bonus multiplayer that you get to take your chosen ally into with.

It's a shame that this is happening, granted I didn't spend any money into the game but I still enjoyed playing it. The idea of it is very interesting and unique that it could've worked had Konami actually put some effort into it in terms of events and access to the game (as in multiple platforms such as console or PC). I wonder if there is a way to put this idea of a 4-way cross duel format into Master Duel basically transferring Cross Duel into Master Duel by creating an extra mode for it. Don't know how exactly that would work but the idea of it I believe is good enough, it just needs to be executed properly.

Shame, I had just downloaded CD a few days ago and it will ended in a matter of months. I find it neat to finally have a game where you can play with Gallop and Bridge Yugioh characters in a single game. Who would imagine we can have someone like Yusaku and Yuga on the same game or Decode Talker and Sevens Road on the same field. I also would have hoped to see Yudias inputted in the game too.

Personally the game was “fun” with Greta music & voice acting but I think the problem with Cross Duel was too much Yugioh all at once. Between Master Duel, Duel Links, and Rush Duel on Switch there’s just too much grinding/events per game. Personally juggling between Master Duel and Duel Links was hard enough with the limited time I’ve had on top of other mobile games I play. I wish cross duel was a physical/digital release with single player, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer features. I think the game would of been received better.

I have to completely disagree with every bit of this and I will forever hate Konami for taking this game down as someone who has and will always love the old school Yu-Gi-Oh I love cross duel because it's way more balanced and easier to understand than master duel and the regular Yu-Gi-Oh TCG will ever be. Sad to see a great game go away but even if Konami shuts down the game I'll never uninstall it I will keep the game on my phone and use my computer skills to take everything cross duel has done resources codes and all and bring the game back as a fan made game when it's taken down.

for me, from what i've seen, the biggest failure was that it tried to attract those who only playstyle understand is beatdown (i.e. whoever have the biggest attack attacks without any other interaction, like numeron, armed samurai ben kei etc.), which are too few and to balance it, used a system where the surviving monster lose atk by the attack of the destroyed monster atk and the defending monster lose atk by the attacking monster's atk. Not to mention it had a round countdown with duel system far off that was familiar. At least that and duel links have the positive to show iconic summons and voices from characters. I hope konami will make a yugioh product which will be closer to traditional like master duel but have summon animation and attacks with character voices for the corresponding monster like duel links.

Hear an idea for a Yugioh Spin-off game. Have an app game based on a story archetype like “Kozmo” or “Duel-Terminal”. Magic The Gather have novels based on their cards. So it would be interesting to see Yugioh try something similar. Especially given all the rich in-depth lore of the cards.

In my opinion, the biggest reasons for this games failure are the technical problems: high loading times in the middle of event scenes, connection errors during duels out of seemingly no reason, immensly high power drain. I think (you mentioned it as well) this game would have performed better, if it was on steam and mobile stores - released at the same time. Sad, because the game mechanics and ideas were great (even so it is/was hard to play for free) and could have been improved over time. But I guess now we will never know. Hope your theory about Konami hesitating with the release of new games will not become thruth so.

It doesn't need to get shut down, it needs to be updated into a game that follows the TCG and/ or OCG rulings of a normal Yu-Gi-Oh game because they've got the animation correctly set up. As for the Cross Duel game they can keep it as a side game, an example of that is like Black Ops 2 game and the side game is Zombies. this is simple enough and we know they can make it that way so people just need to speak on it to allow it to happen. Master Duel may be good, but if they do what I said it can be much better.

I think the reason why Cross Duel failed is because that it's not as well thought out as Master Duel or Duel Links. I think Cross Duel came out just a few months after Master Duel came to be, which i think is pretty much a pre-emptive move from Konami, and it's maybe because that DL and Master Duel are still doing soooo well that people didn't even try to bother with it. That's just my two cents to the whole situation, though.

This a good example of a company not knowing how to manage their game, as well as being blinded by the "mobile game" fever. The game was fun, and could have been much better if konami had both managed it better and released outside of mobile. Getting cards was a pain as a f2p, the game felt much MUCH slower than duel links in that aspect, and duel links is already slow in that one aspect, not even to mention that you have to give skills to every card, which are expensive as well, and nor having skills on your card gives you a ridiculous disadvantage in the game. They expected people to just gacha away their money for a bunch of cards, but that isnt how it works, if the game cant sustain a good f2p player base, they will leave the game, and since f2p makes for most of the games player base, even the p2w will find it bad to not have f2p players to face, leading into them leaving as well. And even then, p2w may spend a lot of money, but its the f2p players, that spend just a tiny bit of money, but in massive amounts, that helps these games maintain themselves. And konami has been pushing this ideia that their "mobile games" are doing well, like how many head lines were going around telling how master duel, konamis "mobile" game was doing really well in japan, but lets face it, master duel and cross duel were never developed eith mobile in mind, but because of this ideia that they HAVE to make mobile games, konami has been Shooting themselves on the foot. Cross duel would have been much more sucessful had it also released on steam and/or consoles, but konami choose to not do it.

Cross Duel is a good game with a new, interesting way to play Yu-Gi-Oh, but it's not a game you play daily for months or years, just like Duel Links, but duel links had new events and characters regularly, that makes players come back. But in the case of Cross Duel I played for about two weeks and I forget about it until now, there was no ads and don't saw any post or video about it.

I’m sad that this failed so quickly, but it really was very much pay to win and hard to get anything. Gems were difficult to come by and it’s just… I loved the character interactions the most. Preferred this idea over Master Duel (I hate it, it’s just standard dueling but with way too many OTK players that just ruined it for me, and it too also requires too much money for a decent time). I was hoping to see Yugi, Bakura, and Crow in this, and now it’s ending. It sucks.
