Cross Fell is the highest mountain in the Northern Pennines, an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and is the highest point in England outside the Lake District. The summit is 893 metres (2,930 ft) in height and has a stony plateau that includes a large Cairn, a Trig Pillar and a wonderful impressive multi-directional shelter the centre of which is the highest point. We had a clear day for the walk but the going was tough with a substantial amount of boggy ground under foot. This was the final walk in our 7 day hiking adventure in the area

Nice video, it’s a good walk up to the summit. PS if you think parts of that were boggy then just wait until you get some more North Pennines done. Grey Nag and Burnhope Seat among others are a seriously boggy delight. Keep walking and tell Dave G he’s a legend.

I was/am addicted to hill walking and now am a pensioner. I can boast of climbing all the Munros in Scotland plus many peaks in the Hebrides, Wales and Ireland. I have been to the summit of Cross Fell twice. Once doing the Pennine way. However on the second occasion it was from the west. I met a lovely mature lady who walked back down with me, and she said it was her favourite hill. I can see what she means. It is a lovely fell, with a history and an enchanting atmosphere. Thank you for this video.

Wow, I am not worthy... all the Munros, fantastic achievement. We really enjoyed Cross Fell and were lucky enough to have had two lovely Ladies join us up and down. Thank you for watching our video and taking the time to comment. Cheers Malcolm.

Been on Cross Fell a few times but not for years, so real nice to tag along on this one. A lot of bog on the walk, which is hard going. I bet it was nice to have the shelter all to yourselves and we never walked to the Radar Station when we were there as it was think of snow and hard going. For the time of year and the area, looks like you were blessed with good weather as well, cheers Alan

Yeah it was rain from the day before that meant the bog was grim. We started and ended in just Tech shirts, but it was bitter cold and very windy towards the latter part of the ascent and drop, so not too bad. The Radar station is bang on the Pennine Way and as it's the second highest fell it's been added to the ever increasing to do list. Just need to live long enough to get it all in Alan.

Good to see the views from Cross Fell. I arrived there whilst on the PW Sept 2018 at 8pm, just as it fell dark, on a very foggy, wild evening with horizontal driving rain. Thank god for Greg's Hut 1mile further on!! And yes I found some bogs as well. Enjoyed the vid, friendly looking group of walkers you have there.

Yes a very handy bothy on the Pennine Way, mountain Rescue use the place a lot. Never been there, I am a member of the mountain Bothys assoc but that was purely so I could return to and have a night or two in one we admired in the Outlying Fells

Currick is the name given in the Pennines to a particular type if well constructed cairn. There were several in the area marked on the map Curricks.
